The main cause for sleep paralysis seems to be sleep deprivation, though stuff like anxiety and depression make it more likely to occur too. I went to sleep like 3 hours past my usual schedule and I overall have anxiety issues so I guess that's why it happened to me. For whatever reason, sleeping on the side supposedly helps prevent it, and wiggling your toes (which is the only body part you can move) can unparalyze you. I don't think I have had another sleep paralysis episode since then, but I wiggle my toes every time I feel like I can't get up after waking up just in case, and it usually works too, or my body just stops being lazy, either way is fine for me.
