Well, to each their own. I use yuri to encompass anything that involves lesbian relationships (so shoujo-ai as well, not necessarily including explicit content). I like the tropes that appear in it, and often when you get a good mangaka they really display the struggles of being lesbian and I enjoy connecting with that. Uh, yuri and yaoi have been around for ages. Yaoi has always had a crazy following; yuri is only recently starting to be known more widely, which is nice since it means we get more good material rather than just trash port lol.
Silver Spoon was fun! I actually watched the anime just after I got here to Japan. (Also, I know a teacher who worked at the agricultural school they used for location scouting. She was there when they were filming!! Super cool!) Man, I haven't read Yotsuba in years, but it's definitely awesome. Maybe someday I will read it again, but I have a lot of other series to get to before that. @w@
