Don't misunderstand my post here, but I'm not particularly a fan of any sort of these 'pride' rallies or months, despite being all for everyone's rights to live however they want to.

I guess I don't understand how putting a certain group on a pedestal is any sort of progress into what I thought was the end goal here: equality.

Would everyone celebrate a straight white pride month in this day and age? Yeah, probably not. But isn't that equality too?

In my experience, you'd be surprised how little most people care at all how you choose to live your life; but it's only when you get blatant and shove it in their faces when hostility begins to show. And that ironically just creates more want to further showcase 'pride', becoming more public and blatant, and then the other side gets more angry, etc.... and it's just a worsening loop that never leads to any progress into what should be the true end goal here.

I'm sorry if my post is a downer or clashes against most modern day PC notions, but I have a right to post my own thoughts on this topic too, right? And if it creates more discussion, I guess that's not a bad thing either. I'd rather that than just everyone throwing in the same posts again and again.

Straight people don't need a pride month because they aren't regularly fired, beaten and murdered for being straight.
People are allowed to be proud of who they are, if you don't like it, too bad.

By your rationale, if gays or anyone other than straight were the majority and it was the other way around, then that means you'd rally for the discriminationed straight minority, right?

So basically, it's not about the factions at all, but just who's the majority or not. And that is my issue.

It's rather ironic too you'd use "too bad if you don't like it" to my post, yet the same mentality doesn't seem to apply to you. Interesting.

  • me: let gay people be happy
you demons: uwuw what about those poor straighties also im gonna twist your argument and put words in your mouth

The world isn't the opposite, that isn't even an argument. Why would you be against gay people celebrating if you're anything but homophobic?

And you can be proud about being straight, but straight people don't need pride. Stop trying to make things about you just because you feel left out.

  • In an ideal world, there wouldn't be a need to come out. In an ideal word, no one would give a shit of how you live as long as it doesn't hurt other people.

    This isn't an ideal world.

In a world where gay people mentally wrestle for years (even after the Supreme Court legalization of gay marriage if you're in the US) on whether or not to come out to their family members because of a risk of isolation (and that's lightly putting it), in a world where transgender folk are killed, bullied, and otherwise invalidated simply because there are bigots who don't understand that people can identity as whatever gender they want, in a world where people don't even recognize bisexuals because apparently there's Some Law that you have to choose to be sexually attracted to one or the other, I would think that a recognition of what these groups have went through and a recognition that these groups exist and should be treated as normally as any other individual on Earth wouldn't be too much to ask.

You're a straight person? Great! If you're an accepting and open-minded straight person, then you can do your part to support the community by not invalidating everything we went through. If you know of a gay person, treat them with the love and respect that they deserve. Tell nonbinaries or even genderfluid people that it's perfectly fine and ok to not feel like they're obligated to be on the gender spectrum, and respect whatever pronouns they choose for themselves. Tell trangender folk that you will support their efforts to be whoever they choose to be and you will love them no matter what, because that's the support they really need more than anything else. The same applies for bisexuals, asexuals, and even other folk on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum.

It's really really not hard to be a decent human being these days and treat other people with respect and give them the support they need in times when they really need it the most.

  • i'm just gonna say what's been brought up about having a pride month is exactly why we have one.

moving on, i've discovered a lot about my sexuality in recent years and this year in particular, i have really made strides in it. i've come a long way and i'm proud to be bisexual. feels good typing that. :) happy pride month, y'all. xoxo

Why do people think that us having a pride month is "shoving it in our faces". We literally have to see straight people in 99% of real life and media be able to be who they are without being judged or even harmed for it. Us LGBT people literally live in fear every second of every day just because we don't fit in with the very much greater majority of society that shoves straightness as the only accepted form of life down our throats. This is our month and y'all ain't about to take it away lmao

    oh and happy pride month!!

Not sure what pride parades you've been to or seen, but they are grotesquely intrusive and borderline pornographic.

The fact you think it's okay to be THAT blatant just to, be honest, rub it in the faces of those damn dirty straight people is the issue.

That behavior is LITERALLY just the other extreme of what you say you're against. But I guess it's all okay so long as it's your side, right?
    That's my problem.
Notice too how I'm attacked for having a differing opinion. Almost like how you claim the homosexual minority is also harassed for being different wherever too.
How can you not even see the hypocrisy?

I don't understand the argument about pride parades being too grotesque when straight people are allowed to do the exact same thing in movies and no one says a word about it. It's not about rubbing it in people's faces but rather being able to celebrate our love just as straight people get to do every day.

No one is attacking you for having a different opinion. I am just trying to point out why we don't need straight pride. Literally every single day is straight pride day.

  • Beautifully illustrated hypocrisy right here.

Thanks. Better than I could've ever articulated.

I mean there's no way to reason with people like you so :/

ok for real i literally could not care less about straight people getting butthurt for having a month focused on lgbt people as if the entire world doesnt literally revolve around straight people

why are yall so obsessed with victimizing yourself its kinda sad

Did you even READ my first post? Butthurt? What are you talking about?

I simply offered a different opinion that isn't the most PC notion and people flip out or even think I'm attacking them, while ironically attacking me.

Funny. Take your first line about being unable to reason with "people like me" and apply it to your guys' side instead. A bit more accurate.

I'm done with this topic now. You only proved my point of the blatant unawareness of the hypocrisy at hand. And it's pretty sad, to be honest. So much for a level headed debate.

I did read it, unfortunately. It was pretty depressing that you butt into a thread that was supposed to be a celebration of LGBT pride with your homophobic bullshit. It was supposed to be a nice thread but you tried to turn into some sort of debate. You're probably going to argue against the fact that openly complaining about pride month is homophobic, even though you think it's all about parading in your underwear with giant inflatable dildos or whatever you seem to think pride parades are like.

Also nice deflection, i'm literally a bisexual woman and more than half of the commenters here are gay or bi and youre getting pissy that others are upset that youre shitting all over their thread. Gain some empathy for those less privileged than you and think twice before raining on people's parade.
