Haven't done one of these in a while, let me know if anything needs fixing.

Hey, welcome back to PC! Thanks for reading everything~ Really the only thing that I would note is some CSS stuff: since a lot of us tend to read on mobile, which has weird formatting constraints. So it's good for everyone if all our CSS uses "max-width" instead of "width". It still looks great on desktop and becomes perfectly readable on mobile too. Also remember to specify your text color when you use background colors/images! A lot of people forget this, but PC has many different site themes to choose from, which all change the default text color. So things become fairly unreadable if we forget to change that!

Otherwise, your SU looks fantastic- thank you for all the detail and care! Because the Kanto from Astromancer & Eleanor's RP Trainers is effectively canon here, I'd like you to have some base knowledge about that since your character is from Kanto. :) An overview of the Trainers OOC should be enough, and the majority of the cast are also in that RP so we can help fill you in! We're all working together to build a coherent world, so we have to be on the same page, y'know?

Fifteen pages is a lot of catching up to do and while I truly believe that everyone should read everything else that happened in the RP, sometimes that's not super feasible. But we're a communicative group and always willing to rehash things that have happened prior! As long as you keep up with reading from the time you join, it should be okay. :) I'm trying to work on a comprehensive summary spreadsheet (you may have seen it, it's linked somewhere), but I've been struggling with health issues lately that have made creating and maintaining "extra" stuff like that kind of difficult for me. Because of that, the Player Document is... not so much outdated as just, not as informative as it could be. I'm still trying, though!

With all that said- you're accepted! I'll get you a link to the Discord, but also- let's figure out where and when you want Clint to begin, here. There are... quite a few ways to do this, at this point! Most characters right now are somewhere between Wednesday, September 23rd and Saturday, September 26th and are in Chapter 3 and 4 locations- so, in and around Petalburg City. But because this is a self-directed journey, it's not really required to be in the same place as everyone else! The only thing you might miss is JP opportunities and the occasional, very very rare, date-restricted event. But, because a big part of roleplaying is JPing with people, I would recommend finding a way to put Clint near people! Perhaps he arrives in Slateport and doesn't spend much time in Slateport, Dewford, or Petalburg- perhaps you just write important things such as gym battles or captures in those locations. But perhaps he takes the route less travelled, so you can get comfortable writing him without the pressure to JP, and he heads the opposite way of the rest of the cast- going from Slateport to Route 110, and the west to Littledale and following the chapters in reverse. At least, until he circles back to Slateport and from there goes to Mauville. If we do that, we could work out the timing so that he joins up with the rest of the cast around then!

Let me know if you have any questions, either about the broader scope of the RP or about the timing and location of starting your story. :)

FULL NAME: Mahina "Hina" Kaʻuhane
PREFERRED NAME: She mostly goes by her nickname, Hina. Her followers call her "Moon", a short form of her username.
AGE: 15
PRONOUNS: She/Her/They
HOME REGION: Alola
DEVICE: She broadcasts her streams on her Rotom Phone, a local device from Alola. When she first streamed, it was from the X-Transiever she received from her mother and father, who was on business trips throughout Unova. Overtime, through the money she received by becoming a full-fledged twitch partner, she got herself a blue Rotom Phone.

POKEMON ON HAND:

Ruby (Litten, Male)
Scratch | Fire Fang | Swords Dance | Lick

8gI5xpL.png

APPEARANCE: Standing around 5'4, from Alola, Hina has dark skin and round, blue eyes the color of the ocean. Her hair is a pale platinum blonde that looks nearly white and is loosely tied into two wavy ponytails by small, thin hair bands. There are three dots surrounding her belly button, and it is very likely that they are small, silver bead piercings, but could also be a tattoo.

She wears a white, frilly bikini top, the frills a very pale blue, presumably matching bikini bottoms under the blue skirt with white frills sewn to the bottom of it and a blue bow at the waistband. On top of her skirt, she wears a pink utility belt which holds her carving tools and paintbrushes. Angie wears a yellow smock which reaches below her knees, sleeves loose and wide as they stop before her wrists. Her smock has black symbols on her shoulders, the insignia of her previous high school. Her shoes are simple white slip-ons with light grey soles. Hina wears a white beaded bracelet on her left wrist, as well as another one on her right ankle. She also wears a white pearled necklace with a seashell in the middle of it.

PERSONALITY: In a word, Hina is "spirited". Fun loving, energetic, friendly and cheerful, always being curious and not worrying much about things. She's very sociable; she loves meeting and chatting with new people, making new friends, and always act as a mood maker for groups. She doesn't dislike many people; as she's the type to shrug off and laugh about jokes or insults made at her, but she's less tolerable about those who treat other people poorly. On a more quirky side of her, she has a polytheistic animistic belief, in which certain objects carry a 'spiritual essence'. Even among humans and pokemon. Following this belief, she interacts with objects, people and pokemon a bit more earnestly compared to others; a spirit is to be respected after all.

BRIEF HISTORY: Hina;s mother and father always seemed to go overseas due to their work, so she grew up under her grandparents wing. Growing up in Alola, with her grandparents, Hina was always around Pokemon. Alola after all, is a region where humans and Pokémon coexist in a very close relationship. Her family had strong beliefs, mainly ones about spirits, and how everything and everyone had its own "spirit", so to speak. With Hina, growing up she was told and always had the belief that she, deep inside her soul held a spirit of fire: a spirit that symbolized will and determination. From that passion, she decided to enroll in the Pokemon School of Alola, on the route near Hau'oli City.

During her time at school, it became the opportunity for her to attempt her first Alolan trial: the one near Melemele Island. She was given her starter Pokemon: a spry, young Litten she received from the professor. At first though, Hina's relationship with her Litten became rocky as the Litten did not like her from the get-go. It was a curious thing about Pokemon: you can choose the Pokemon, but sometimes, it did not choose you. Unfortunately, that was Hina's case. Still though, she considered Litten to be her ally and friend, and thus, attempted the island challenge together. It was simple: to defeat the Yungoos, then the totem Pokemon at the end.

However, the partnership between the two was rocky. Litten decided to do what he wanted without following Hina's instructions, simply battling on instinct. Things in that matter.. was going well at first; Litten was strong compared to the wild Pokemon and managed to defeat them. But then, it was time to battle the totem Pokemon. This was when things went downhill. Despite Litten's strength, it was still no matched for the totem Gumshoos, easily swatting away and blocking each of the Litten's attempted attacks. Despite Hina's protests and the beating Litten took already, he was stubborn, deciding to battle the totem Pokemon until it could somehow pull off a victory. It never came, as the final strike from Gumshoos became Litten's undoing, thus failing the trial.

Following the battle, Hina tended to Litten's wounds by visiting the local Pokemon Center. Around that time, she met up with the professor. It was a familiar situation he observed, watching Hina and her Litten; a long time ago, The Professor and his own Litten didn't get along at first too, but experiencing memories and hardships together, the two finally bonded. While it was a tough situation for Hina right now, the professor recommended that she not give up. He then suggested an idea.

CURRENT GOAL: Hina has a purpose in mind: following the graduation, she was going to travel, to experience new memories with her Pokemon. Then once they get stronger together, they were going to attempt the Island Challenge again, and this time, prove themselves to be the strongest Trainer, and as the island challenge champion. The professor suggested Hoenn as the first region to travel to, because the Hoenn League was around the corner. There, she hopefully will get stronger with Litten, and bond more as trainer and Pokemon.

FLAVOR: Hina's also a streamer for Twitch, having about 470K subscribers. She mainly focuses on art, streaming "IRL" stuff, like exploration, or other stuff like interactions and other fun activities. Her bubbly and energetic personality attracted many people to watch her, and thus, over the years, she gained a sizable amount of subscribers and followers.

PLAYER DOC UPDATE / RULES CHANGE - EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY

Levels are obsolete and mean nothing, though PokéDexes and experienced trainers may be able to evaluate a Pokémon's nebulous approximate "power level" to make educated guesses about their strategies. We are currently playing on a system where new moves are gained through written battles and training sessions. This applies to all natural level-up moves, which can be chosen from Gen 7 and 8 movetables. If a Pokémon does not have a Gen 8 table at time of writing, it can be supplemented by Gen 6. Off-screen training may, of course, happen- it's only logical that it would! But to get the "reward" of a new move, that battle or training session must be written out to a reasonable extent.

"Level 1" moves and similar Orbeetle Bug Buzz are obtainable through written training sessions only. A Pokémon may not "suddenly discover" these moves in the heat of battle, they may only learn them through dedicated training for that particular move. The trainers we have as main characters are likely unequipped to do such a thing, and should find help in the form of a gym trainer or similar.

Please be reasonable in your move choices and remember that we have a long way to go- an ideal, "final" moveset may not actually be fun to play for the rest of the game if you set it up early. Don't be afraid to change your team up to play with everything!

Many centuries ago...

5ab3bdf52f8388cc044310634be490b9.png

The people of Ecruteak City built two towers. Nine tiers each, reaching high up into the sky. The Bell Tower, and the Brass Tower... the two towers attracted two legendary Pokemon guardians. Ho-oh: guardian of the skies, and Lugia: guardian of the seas. Ho-oh rested on top the Bell Tower, and Lugia rested on the Brass Tower. The People would commune with the Pokemon, and a harmonious friendship grew between them.
hpMBZwf.png

Until one faithful night... over 150 years ago...

A lightning storm came, and grew, shaking the town with thunder, as lightning filled the sky. A tremendous lightning bolt came, and struck the Brass Tower, engulfing it in flames. Three nameless Pokémon perished in the fire, much to the despair of the townspeople. With its power, Lugia then summed a rainstorm, finally putting an end to the fire. Overcome with the destruction of the tower, Lugia had fled.

Finally, as the next morning came, a rainbow came down from the sky from the ending of the downpour, and Ho-Oh appeared. Ho-Oh used its mystical powers to revive the perished Pokémon into Raikou, Entei, and Suicune. The three Legendary beasts appeared on top of the remnants of Brass Tower, leaving the townspeople of Ecruteak City in awe. But instead of rejoicing the rebirth of these three Pokémon, the townspeople feared the power of the Pokémon that had manipulated life and tried to suppress the Legendary beasts with violence. Due to this, the three Legendary beasts and Ho-Oh fled. Although they did not retaliate against the townspeople, they never returned to Ecruteak City in fear of what the townspeople would do to them.

Ho-oh and Lugia now travel through the skies and the seas respectively, searching for a trainer of pure heart and soul. Until such a day arises, their tales have been consistantly shared by a quintet of Trainers who are also known as, The Kimono Girls.

In Ecruteak, the Kimono Girls are respected not only for their performing prowress, and their own upholding of Johtoian tradition, but for something that they've kept internally for generations... their dances carried a mystical, and mysterious energy, one that can help invigorate Pokémon, and soothe the heart and soul of virtually anyone who watches. They are also very skilled and talented trainers in their own right, and with their skills, they sought out trainers who might have a certain "potential"... one of pure heart. While they're as respected as they are mysterious, the five Kimono Girls continue with their customans and traditions to this day.

This is one member of the group, and one who weaves her own tale...

FULL NAME: Sakura Yuna
PREFERRED NAME: aka. "Momo" (Her stage name)
AGE: 18
PRONOUNS: She/Her/They
HOME REGION: Johto
DEVICE: PokeGear

POKEMON ON HAND:

133.png
Eevee (Vee) ♀

Shadow Ball [TM] // Quick Attack // Helping Hand // Sand Attack

APPEARANCE: Her traditional attire from Johto, as part of the Kimono Girl group, consists of an elegant pink kimono, patterened with cherry blossom flowers. Her jet-black hair was neated up in a bun, stylzed with an assortment with different accessories, ranging from gold combs, to apricot-made love balls, to fake cherry-blossoms pedals. Her kimono is tied with a dark rose and black obi-sash that also compliments the colour of her kimono. She also wears high common tabi (socks) and wooden, brown sandals. She generally wears this for performances.

Off-Stage and casually for Hoenn's warm weather, she changes up her style to a summer pink floral-patterned black kimono that is a lot lighter than her on stage one. She also wears casual brown sandles, with her kimono tied with a yellow obi sash. Her long hair flows freely, extending to her mid back.

PERSONALITY: As with the rest of the Kimono Girl stage group, Sakura represents the Johtoian term of "Yamato nadeshiko". She is polite, well-spoken, kind, honest, and graceful. Unlike the others however, Sakura is more outspoken, ready to speak her mind -- even if it meant to praise, or to scold people. Her mind also wonders freely... maybe a bit too freely. Her imagination is wild and erratic; as it can cause her to think of rediculous cause to effect scenarios to even the most simplest of situations. She's also not as paitent as the rest of the Kimono Girls... she's more of a go-getter; when something is on her mind, she seeks to act on it without proper planning first. With Pokemon, she's kind, yet fair and firm with her Eevee. In battle, she takes the experience from her days training with the rest of the Kimono Girls and applies them, prefering grace and elegance when performing her Pokemon's attacks.

BRIEF HISTORY: Sakura was born in Ecruteak with her mother, and her father. Her mother mostly stayed at home, while her dad was part of a buisness campaign with Kanto and Unova, so he was often away, but kept in touch. The first time she found out about the Kimono girls was when she was eight; when her mother brought her to one of their shows for her birthday. It was a show that she would never forget; when the group performed, it was though her soul was lifted... as though she was in pure bliss. Seeing the women on stage with their colourful attires, with their brilliant pokemon, captured her heart. So, she dreamed that someday, she too will perform on stage. Throughout her childhood, she would beg her parents to take her to attend each of the Kimono Girl stage performances whenever it happened, and at home, she would play and dance with the family Ralts at home.

Her dream was finally realized when she was 15, one of the previous generation of the Kimono Girls was retiring, and so, they were seeking one person to be a part of their group. Although, as rumors had it - the Kimono Girls were very selective about new members. Many had tried out, but so far, all were rejected. Sakura had wondered why - was there something missing that these people hadn't had? While she was growing up, she often took dancing lessons down at Goldenrod, so while she had experience on that front, perhaps she needed something more... it was then she remembered: how they Kimono Girls danced. There was something about that dance; something that can't just be expressed by physical means. Their dances always captured hearts and souls of many trainers alike, as though, it was rejuvinating them. That faithful day when she tried out, she chose to do a simple, yet elegant dance. All the memories from her childhood, all the feelings she experienced that day while watching them on stage, that was poured with her dance. She recieved a standing ovation when she was done, and the moment became even more surreal when they made the unaminous decision: Sakura was chosen to be a part of their group.
l6AhVxg.png

From then, she worked, and trained with them for years - her partner became an Eevee that the group had raised to be part of their shows, and her stage name became "Momo". Sakura had learned much from them; she had learned about the legends of Ho-oh and Lugia, and the secret task the Kimono Girls were charged with. For generations, the Kimono Girls were more than just dancers; they were observers, watching many Trainers perform deeds, for they potentially have what the legends were looking for: a trainer with a pure of heart. The dances they perform were developed by an ancestor of the group centuries ago: she had a mystical power to charm pokemon, and soothe the hearts and souls of countless people. She developed a dance that combined with the Clear Bell, and with a Trainer of pure heart, they can summon upon Ho-oh and Lugia. It was an exciting revolation for Sakura; she knew that the group was something more to the eye, but to this extent, she knew she had made the right decision on joining. She watched many trainers go on their journey, however, none seemed to have that 'potential'.

It was when she turned 18 that her life had changed - after another performance, the Kimono Girls were met and greeted with many fans of theirs. One such fan that Sakura had met was a man who was travelling from a region called Hoenn. Intrigued, Sakura asked about Hoenn, and the man told her many things about Hoenn, from the beaches they had, to the cities and towns, to the clear ocean's water... and that he mentioned that he had a son, who was looking to participate in the Hoenn Leauge. The seeds to imagination and wonder was planted in Sakura's head - Hoenn sounded like a much different place than Johto, and it was a region that seemed to have potential with the trainers who were travelling the region as well. Taking her fascination with the Hoenn region, she decided to visit the local library to learn more. There were few books, but one always stood out to her: it was a book about the Legendary Pokemon of Hoenn. Kyogre of the Seas, Groudon of the Land, and Rayquaza of the air. It seemed as though Hoenn had their own customs, traditions, and legends... ones that always planted in Sakura's mind.

CURRENT GOAL: Even as she continued to dance, the Hoenn region remained in her mind. She had finally realized, after living in Johto throughout her life, that there are sure to be benefits on travelling to Hoenn. She wanted to see Hoenn for herself. She wanted to be a trainer, travelling through Hoenn - as a trainer, she was interested in the different battle strategies that the people from Hoenn would potentially use, in an effort to learn more about different trainers in general. The rest of the Kimono Girl group had asked her why, when she announced she was going to take a leave of absence to explore Hoenn. She explained, that perhaps that they shouldn't just be tied down to Johto. After all, there are trainers everywhere in the world, and Johto had only a small percentage of that. Perhaps by meeting trainers who lived with different customs, she can grow to be wiser herself. She sought the question herself, what a 'pure-hearted trainer' really meant, and thus, to seek this answer, she wanted to expand on her world, and her horizons. And it all starts, with the Hoenn Leauge.

FLAVOR: Her PokeGear is pink, and while she's performing, she addresses herself as "Momo", a name in Johtoian that means "Peach". She also carries her stage-costume.

So this is full right
Unfortunately yes it it! I decided that we were too far in for people to be able to truly catch up if they haven't been following along. The goal is to finish this half of the RP this year and then open signups again at the second half. :)

Unfortunate that this is closed for now... (yous hould probably update the top of the main post, since it says applications are always open).

Oh, thanks for catching that! It was definitely the intent to keep it that way but it got to the point where it was hard for people to jump in and follow along with everything. When we finish Square One, I'll be opening Second Wave up to more signups and giving it kind of a reboot on going over mechanics and world content. Hopefully there's still interest when we get to that point!

Any idea when that might be? Not sure Id be able to adapt my normal OC to this RP, but it does look interesting enough...

Honestly- very hard to say. This style of RP ends up taking a long time to get through. Even though I've released up through Chapter 7, players are only partway through their chosen Chapter 5 experiences. Ideally we finish by the end of this calender year- well, ideally we finish far earlier than that, but I know to be a little more realistic with my goals haha. We're making good progress again, though!

...but yeah. They take a long time. It's a blessing and a curse to be sure.

No problem! I know you mentioned an OC you like to adapt, but there's always the Mystery Dungeon event that Sapphy's running if you wanna RP in that a bit~ Also I think the Halls of the Screwed is still open, but that is a non-Pokémon RP. Not sure what vibes for you but peek in on em if you want!

Thanks for the suggestions, but neither of those fit what Im looking for. Mystery Dungeon (and 'play as a pokemon' RP in general) is not something I enjoy... and Im looking for an actual Pokemon themed RP, set in a region I know (as opposed to a fan region, like Ive continually found on most discord servers or other forums). Its also harder to find RPs where battling isnt really required since the whole collecting badges thing has never interested me.

Yeah, that's kind of a tough set of requirements! I hope something comes up that suits you soon :) We just don't have very many GMs at the moment, that's the main problem.

You would think the only hard part for finding a Pokemon RP would be finding one that doesnt require battling (given that the games are based around it I understand why many do go that route) but... like all of it is hard to find... and I dont even think its like that much of an ask all together, you know?

Maybe its because Im looking for the non-'Game' sort of RP instead of an "RPG"? (If that makes any sense?) I dunno... anyway thanks for indulging me in this conversation.

I think people definitely fall back on the very traditional badge journey route for RPs because... it's easy to design and use to funnel people through a world for sure. Especially for original regions- I think a lot of creators tend to structure RPs for their fan region in the same way as they would structure them for a fangame. But they're totally different media, and create very different experiences!

Despite most of this RP being based on the trainer journey (though tbf, I pretty much inherited the journey aspect), I've always been more interested in the working-and-living-with Pokémon stories more than the gym-and-tournament style of thing. I'd love to do more short quest type RPs set in a Pokémon world; I have lots of concepts waiting for me to have time to make them! So if you don't mind- what kind of predominant story or mechanics would be something you are looking for? Of course- canon region, not battle-centric... can you elaborate on the non-'Game' idea? Are you aiming for just, more of a storytelling aspect than a mechanics aspect in general?

I agree with your thoughts on why the badge journey are exactly right, and I dont begrudge anyone who choose to go that route. I can understand the fun that people derive from it, even if it isnt for me.

See, Im the same way, Im way more about the living and working in the Pokemon world with pokemon as friends and companions, rather than the journey to become the best/beat the gyms/etc.
Spoiler:

As for stories... Im not exceptionally picky... it could be something akin to the games "evil team wants to do evil things and this group of individuals gets wrapped up in it", regardless of if theyre adults or teens, or like even if it is a semi-battle centric, traditional badge journey, but other players who dont want to battle can tag along for the inbetween battle times where theyre just traveling or really anything. Im here for the story and the realistic world building more than I am just the battling and mechanics.

Yea... youve basically got the gist of it when I say 'non-Game'. Im looking for the collaborative story telling over having to worry about tracking moves and stats and the like.

Im looking for the collaborative story telling over having to worry about tracking moves and stats and the like.

aaaa your OC sounds super cute! I have quite a few characters with similar vibes that I've basically just been getting my fill of writing as NPCs in the trainer journeys. Someday they will get their spotlight... we just have to make something that will allow for that.

I guess the vibe is- progression should come from the plot rather than the stat advancements, pretty much. Luckily, the majority of people who play here fall very much into the category of storytellers rather than mechanics-focused, even when mechanics are introduced and used. So I think you'd fit in here well! :D Unfortunately we still have the issue of GMs and lack of games. We're just not really sure how to solve that one, especially as our userbase gets older and ends up with less time to dedicate to hobbies.

All I can say is that we'd love to have you hang out here with us in the Talk threads and everything and hopefully someone can get an RP going soon that you'd fit well into! I may be overextending myself but if I get a certain amount of things ready to go for my current RPs I might try to run something new in a couple months. But we will see what I can actually make happen ^^;
