Film Last movie you watched? Edition II

Solace. It's about a grumpy old psychic (Anthony Hopkins) working with the FBI (Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Abbie Cornish) to hunt down and catch a serial killer (Colin Farrell). There's way more to it, of course, but that's the spoiler-free summary.

My mother and I both really enjoyed it, and I was utterly shocked to look it up out of curiosity and see that it has a 24% RT rating. (Not that bad critic ratings for good movies are out of the ordinary, but that's a very low rating, especially for a movie I expected to get at least 70%.)

The new Beauty and the Beast was, um, something. Cringy at times, and in every scene you could almost picture the room full of executives discussing what changes to make:

"We should have a gay character. That will help us sell it."
"Oh, like Lumiere and Cogsworth could be a couple?"
"No, don't make it an important character."

The new songs felt really out of place. And really, when was the last time you had a movie with so much talent come out so muddy? Emma Thompson and Ewan McGregor in particular felt miscast.

the last movie i saw was naomi and ely's no kiss list on netflix. it was a cute and drama filled movie, and had one of my favorite actresses, victoria justice. she was hot in that movie ngl. it was a cute movie and if you like drama and comedy, and romance then i recommend this movie.

Don't Breathe is one of the best movies I've seen in recent years. So many scenes where I was practically on the edge of my seat and literally had no idea what was going to happen from one moment to the next, especially towards the ending.

I went and saw Blade Runner in theatres on Thursday night, probably the fourth or fifth time I've seen it. there's only one part in the film I'm iffy on but there is so much to love about this movie. it's completely stunning and there's so much going on that I Could write about but that would require a lot of thought organization that I might not be able to accomplish on this dreary Saturday evening. needless to say, definitely one of my favorite films of all time.

congratulations on being the first and only person in all of humankind to say this
i'm glad victoria finally has a fan bc the poor girl has been trying so hard to no avail

body heat was a lot of fun. i know people remember this film primarily because it was kathleen turner's star making turn as matty tyler, but i found myself drawn to the slimy and pathetic ned. not because of any sympathy or what not, but because of how william hurt took the role of the incompetent and naive sucker and gave it that exciting mix of 'do you want him to succeed or do you want him to suffer for being a fool? keep watching' that gave the movie its kick to me.

Goldfinger was on tv. James Bond has a magic stick in his trousers apparently...or maybe it was just rape. Yet still I find it less creepy than his first "romance" in Spectre.

Just re-watched Creed. Great addition to the Rocky canon, I'll be gutted if there's not a Ryan Coogler-helmed sequel because clearly him plus Michael B. Jordan = winning.

Also...how much cheek must MBJ have had during his youth? I really hope someone nicknamed him "Looney Toons" post-Space Jam haha

Moana, for the second time. Just as good now, even though this wasn't in the cinema c:

I admit, I wish they'd make it a romance story in some ways. Buuuut I also really like that you could swap Moana out for a boy of the same age and not change much of the dialogue and nothing at all of the plot and it would all make just as much sense. Not saying that it would be impossible for that boy-Moana and Maui to be gay lol, I'm saying that it it quite refreshing that Moana really wasn't a stereotypical "Disney princess". She didn't even dream of princes and dances and dresses like Anna from Frozen or Rapunzel from Tangled did. Moana was just a really cool dudette.

The subtext! Elizabeth Taylor! Paul Newman! Been wanting to visit both of their respective filmographies as of late. Gonna start with Ms Taylor and see where we go.

The Escorts. Has the daughter from HIMYM in a lead role, pretty formulaic rom-com but fun / sweet enough on the way to the inevitable ending.

You Don't Mess with the Zohan. Possibly the best thing I've seen by Adam Sandler made in the 21st century. I know I'm not saying much there, but it really is quite funny. No doubt it offends Israelis and Palestinians equally (there's a lot of hummus and poking fun at both sides) but I'm white so its all perfectly fun for me. One of the few times he's doing an accent / voice without playing the character as mentally challenged and it benefits from it.

Whiplash. This was really, really good. So good it made me download Damien Chazelle's first film, and also really wish I'd seen La La Land whilst it was in cinemas because all the same people praise all 3. J.K. Simmons is great, really quite scary and Miles Teller is also brilliant in this.

I just finished watching Hacksaw Ridge. As it is a World War II movie, I thought it was quite interesting.

Minions.

Noticed it as we were scrolling through netflix, and I was basically like "let's watch that just for the hell of it." And...it wasn't really obnoxious like I thought it would be. Definitely ridiculous, though. Also rather cute. I actually didn't mind it at all.

Tramps

A mildly diverting 80 minutes on Netflix, I watched it whilst eating, then did most of my daily internet routine while it was on. The sort of thing where you don't want to think too much, full of nice warm tones, no violence either, surprisingly.

Fast 8. It was very entertaining!

Guardians of the Galaxy :) I hadn't seen it and wanted to now that the sequel is out.

I just watched Rogue One finally. It was so goooooood.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2

Watched the first one before I headed to it, for direct comparison. It did not disappoint! Probably the funniest and most brightly-coloured superhero film ever made.

Welfare: a 3 hour documentary about a day in the life of a Social Security office in 1970s New York City. Absolutely gripping, and an eye-opener to how monumentally shit and confusing US bureaucracy truly is.

Last night I watched Guardians of the Galaxy for a recap. Why did I do that? Well, today I went and saw Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I really enjoyed the movie.

last movie i saw was fate of The Furious. next movie i'll see is Spiderman Homecoming
