That actually looks pretty neat. I am suprised this already doesn't exist, because it seems simple.

Imagine playing games with that. <3

I'm not sure if I'm sold. D: Having the windows on a linear plane just... I don't know, it seems like it would be really awkward. I mean, if you're trying to multitask and view several windows at once, I like the ease at which you can do that, but having it linearly displayed would be horrible if you had more than, say, three windows up. :( You can only horizontally condense a window so much before its contents become unreadable or too hard to view properly.

It's also bad for doing grown up related things having part of it still open when you change to a different program D:

Saw this the other day. I may be biased against it because I don't like learning new stuff, but I can tell you one thing: that would make gaming hell. Same with artistry; it's much easier to move a mouse along a row of pixels than a big, pudgy finger.

Imagine playing games with that. <3
I don't even want to think about playing Left 4 Dead or Starcraft with that. Maybe an RPG, but it'd have to be turn-based rather than action.

You could just wash your hands. :3

I concur... any game that'd actually play easily on it would have to be turn-based. Difficult enough as it is to play either of the two games you mentioned with a touchpad.

Yeah, one of the main problems is gaming.
But as for practicality it looks absolutely amazing. It's almost like combining all the features of the regular OS's that we see today and making that manipulable with the fingers and hands.
Although, that person would have had hours and hours of practice even to reach just that level. It looks insanely difficult to work and get used to.

I meant like people barging into your room and then seeing a small panel to the side of something for adults :P
I don't think I'd mind that so much. I'm sure the concept isn't new to most people, it's not like they're going to start asking questions. I'd just rather them not see me with my junk out... or with junk on my hands. :O

I have some reservations about the implementation of the window management but overall it seems like the best step forward in terms of gui development I've seen in a long time. I think they should have taken into consideration technologies such as voice and handwriting recognition. The tabs on the sides of the touch screen would be much better used for scrolling or switching between windows if the menu operations etc. could be done by speech or drawing/writing directly on the touch screen.

Oh and people who are worried about what it'll mean for games, use your brain.

I'm mostly concerned about the gaming issues because if these become the only machines around, it'd probably take a while for the developers to implement the OS mechanics into good gameplay (that and great older games would be difficult to control).

It's fairly promising, though. But if you don't want someone to read your emails, it'd be problematic if the windows can't be cascaded.

Eh. It looks okay but I really don't feel like another OS to choose from. While okay, it'll be cool but I don't wanna buy another computer just to run the 10/GUI software. Let me duel boot it on something and buy the new extentions rather a new computer. Or just make a program to add on to the current line of OS's. We already have Windows, OSX and Linux(Not to mention the 30,000+ OS's that can be made from the Linux kernel)

I can see this being a netbook kind of thing, that would be nice with a keyboard on the touch area. But a desktop? I dunno. Might pass on this one.

Edit; Plus I love expose. It is so handy. <3

I had some massive reply typed up until Facebook crashed Firefox. =/

Basically, I'm concerned as to how this is going to work for people with arthritis or somewhat immobile hands, as the system seemed to require quite complex hand gestures. Also, I am worried about the methods of typing. It's either going to use some stupid on-screen method, killing the accuracy and feedback, or some pen/tablet gimmick, which will decrease speed dramatically.

That said, I'm still impressed overall and interested in the side menus. Although I'm quite happy with my current config and I can't wait for gnomeshell to be released, which should improve the interface of GNOME installations.

I already am. Maybe you should try it, it's quite enlightening. It would completely screw up FPS, RTS, and action games; it would be nigh impossible to play these with the same ease that a keyboard/mouse offers. Turn-based games wouldn't be affected so much, but even they'd have to be redesigned. This system works pretty well for navigating a GUI, but it's horrible for doing anything with quick precision, which is why it fails for gaming.

I am *so* excited right now. I want this interface *now* @_@ I picture it in my head across my four monitors (six, when I go 5870) and it just...gosh, I'm going to need some time alone <3

Anyway! As for gaming; when Doom was released; the idea of using a mouse to play it just seemed SILLY; and why use WASD when the Arrow Keys are right there ready to be used. But here we are; and can anybody imagine NOT using kb/m for FPS games? The point I'm bringing is that games tend to follow the cues of the interface. Could you imagine something like Supreme Commander; where you could be using gestures with both your hands to co-ordinate groups of units to attack? Being able to draw a direction your units move in on, with your hand; determining the spread of formation with pinching, and using other gestures to determine stance of fire? And then using both hands to co-ordinate multiple groups at a time, mmm. Makes me happy just thinking about ut!

How long do you think it would take for some developer to figure that out in a fun to use manner, though?

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what I was thinking. Kinda reminds me of the cover flow on the iPhone; it's a nice feature and all, just not when it's you're only method of navigation.

I'll concede that RTS could possibly put it to good use, if the issue of precision could be dealt with (a pointy object would still be better, like the DS stylus, for instance). I refuse to concede that an FPS could possibly be played in this way; it simply wouldn't work.
