As i sayed in one of the first posts, the swine
floo is in the ame city as me...

and now the family members of the two have been
told they may have it.

we have had letters sent home about it and no one steps near the hospital...

This is craziness!
The media is explouding this, the government is over reacting and just in general, people are acting stupid.
One, maybe; second, NO; third, obviously. The government is not overreacting. they're taking the proper measures at this stage of the epidemic.

Swine flu is no more than a slightly advanced regular cold flu... so people need to calm down!
I just don't get how some people manage to make such ignorant comments, I just don't get how some of you preach your own naive resolutions as if they were facts.

By that wicked logic, you could say Smallpox is a sightly advanced regular Chicken Pox. Promising, huh?

No offense, but this Q n' A is relatively useless. It teaches common sense when dealing with your average epidemic. When it comes to specific questions about H1N1, it's either "we don't know," or "No, there is no cure yet."

It's not very comforting. :/

It's not meant to comfort. It's meant to inform. And IMO, it serves that purpose better than lots of people who have posted here, so it's fine.

Lol. You people don't realize that this may be the next pandemic in the world's history. The world hasn't seen a pandemic for about sixty or so years, so this is the time the world leaders need to prepare their people for a new sickness that we have absolutely no immunity towards.

Some people are taking this way too seriously which is fine, but they need to help out by washing their hands frequently throughout the day. Not washing your hands, then eating, rubbing your nose, or your eyes is how this virus, H1N1, is being inside the body.

This is actually very frightening, and I live in Texas. I just hope that if I keep safe, I won't catch it.

JD is right. This is serious.

I think this is blown out of proportion. I been getting customers asking where is the hand sanitizer. And we sold out within minutes. And when I scan people's groceries I seen people got wipes and stuff. And I been thinking, whoa this is crazy. And the thing is I live right on the border of Mexico. I live in Texas...South Texas actually. So that is why everyone is freaking out. But as long you wash your hands and stay away from people who are sick you are fine. I am not too worried about it. The only reason some people are dying in Mexico because they don't have the proper health care. And the people are in risk are very young children and the elderly. So yeah I am not too worried about it like some people. But I am taking precautions.

We've stopped buying pig products. No more bacon for breakfast. =(

you CAN'T catch it from eating pork or pork products.

However, this is not advised:

I went to Niagara Falls today.
There was like, 30 Chinese people wearing surgeon masks all because of the swine flu.
I found it kind of pathetic that they think they need to wear masks.

I find it pathetic that you think that they shouldn't.

The fact that others actually care for their health is no reason for you criticize them. I've been to Niagara, and I don't think I'm the only Mexican who has. There are lots of cases in the US too, and lots of American people go there. The Chinese have dealt with the Avian Flu before and directly, and you can bet they know it's no joke.

It's people like with that mentality who are more prone to get infected, sorry.

I'm not safe ):

I'm live near Los Angeles! :O noooooo!

grrrks. I don't like how they panic people, but I have to go to the doctor on monday because of that .___.
impossible that I have it, though.
everyone here buys those thingys that u put in front of your mouth for protection, thats so annoying. There are so many possibilities to die, thats just bad luck.
wait a few months, then nobody talks about it anymore.

Yay for misinformation :[

https://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/key_facts.htm

You can't get it by eating pork :[

First it says that you can't catch it through food, but then it says when the meat is cooked to an internal temperature of 160 degree F it kills the virus.

Doesn't that mean that you can still catch it from raw meat?

No. Swine influenza viruses are not transmitted by food. You can not get swine influenza from eating pork or pork products.

Dunno, it seems pretty self-explaining :\

Well, I was reading some newspaper (I think Times, maybe Portland Press Harold) and they mentioned that the first person who got it, a 5-year-old from Mexico, had it, and is now making a full recovery. I guess that means you may not die if you get it. :D
As for my part.....3 cases in Augusta, and I live a 45 mins. away from there. And my gf just got sick.....I hope it's not swine flu.....T-T

At least others care about their health. You act like you wouldn't care if you got cancer. >:/

I live near LA too. (The Ports to be exact)
But I'm not panicking just keeping an eye to this. I's now called "H1N1" you guys to stop the misconceptions. >.>

ATTN: EVERYONE WHO IS BOYCOTTING PIG MEAT BECAUSE OF THIS FLU THING.

Do some research - eating ham or bacon or whatever will not give you swine flu. =)
Although, maybe it IS time to panic - swine flu zombies! =O

LOL. I use the BBC a LOT for my news so I was like "O_______o" when I saw that then I looked at the URL XD. I'd read World War Z so....if it was true that Solanium has popped up then the Government will be covering this up. >.> (Yeah I love that book)

Anyways REAL NEWS:

Mexico shuts down to control flu

Mexico has begun a five-day shutdown of parts of its economy in a bid to slow the spread of swine flu. Non-essential government services have halted, and businesses like cinemas and restaurants are closed. Traditional May Day rallies have been cancelled.
Mexican officials say the spread of the virus - suspected in more than 160 deaths - is slowing, but international experts are more cautious.
China has now confirmed its first case, taking the tally of nations hit to 14.
In cases outside Mexico the virus does not appear to be severe, although one death has been confirmed in the US.
The WHO has set its pandemic alert level at five - but says it has no immediate plans to move to the highest level of six.

I've been keeping with the news since this Swine Flu outbreak started out, and it's been pretty worrying IMO. But I'm sure that the Government has everything under control here in the UK despite new cases breaking out, so now it's up to 11 people, I think? It's scary that there are 642 suspected cases being investigated currently in the UK but I'm confident that the majority will turn out to be negative. I'm not worrying that much right now though here.

EDIT: Oh, and for those who think this is a ridiculous subject which no one should worry about, then I strongly disagree - when deaths have already been caused from this and the fact that it is being passed on quite fast, then no, it's important.
