One flu expert says there's no reason to believe the new virus is a more serious strain than seasonal flu.

Except for the fact that its killing way more people, right? A real 'expert' there...

Except for the fact that its killing way more people, right? A real 'expert' there...

Please note how it's killing people in countries like Mexico. Mexico has very poor medical services.

What about the HIV? It's lasted so long that we're accustomed to its mention, yet we forget that it is still a pandemic. The death toll as of now is about 20 million people or more, can't recall.
I mean a major pandemic where it doesn't take ten years for the virus to kill them.

A pandemic where it takes a week to kill people. We, the world, haven't seen one in sixty years or so.
I find it pathetic that you think that they shouldn't.

The fact that others actually care for their health is no reason for you criticize them. I've been to Niagara, and I don't think I'm the only Mexican who has. There are lots of cases in the US too, and lots of American people go there. The Chinese have dealt with the Avian Flu before and directly, and you can bet they know it's no joke.

It's people like with that mentality who are more prone to get infected, sorry.
So... Because he is ignorant about the fact of getting infected with the H1N1 virus, he's more likely to become infected? I doubt that dude. He's just being ignorant; you can't bash on him the way you did, as you probably do the same thing without noticing it.

crap im pretty close to. lousiana. im gonna have to keep watch for myself and my friends even though we do joke about it every time someone mentions it

im just happy that i live in Australia i hope that i dont get this flu but i feel real sorry for people who have it

2 cases, 6 suspect in Michigan. Out of what? 10 million plus?

And we still get the official warning posters in school, even though we live at least an hour from those two who have been confirmed infected. Lul.

First of all. Which mod changed the title? (Apparently the Modz here in PC are very playful. WTHeck is a broham anyays?!?!?!)

Secondly, you guys have to take into account the fact that Mexico IS SACRIFICING A LOT to contain the outbreak of H1N1! They'd shut down the entire school system, the Mexican economy, and all non-essential government services to contain the outbreaks. Seriously things could or probably have been A HECK OF A LOT WORSE if the Mexicans had not sacrificed a lot. We'll see after Cinco de Mayo (May 6.+) if things peter out or if the Mexicans have done enough...

Third...like the 1918 Spanish Influenza Pandemic this guy could come with a vengeance later in the year after it circles the globe. (Yeah...summer is here upon us in the Northern Hemisphere so it's going to migrate south, And yes I know about the milder pandemics of a couple of decades ago. Which I hope is the case for this one.) I'm just airing out possibilities so no need to bash/flame me...

China moves to curb virus spread

China says it will quarantine all those who travelled on a flight from Mexico with a man suffering from swine flu, in a bid to curb the spread of the virus.
The 25-year-old man flew to Hong Kong via Shanghai on Thursday, and was admitted to hospital.
Beijing said it would put his fellow passengers under week-long observation. It also suspended flights from Mexico.
The move came as South Korea confirmed a case of the virus, the second country in North-East Asia to do so.
Globally, 16 countries have now reported swine flu cases. Five countries have confirmed person-to-person transmission.
In cases outside Mexico, where the virus emerged, the effects do not appear to be severe.
In Mexico itself, officials have raised the number of confirmed deaths to 16.
Restaurants, public buildings and businesses have been closed for five days to try to bring the virus under control.
Mayor Marcelo Ebrard said the emergency measures were bringing results, with the numbers "getting better every day".
He said the next 10 days would be critical in determining whether restrictions should remain in place.
Some health experts say the strain of the virus may not be as deadly as first feared.
Dr Anne Schuchat, acting deputy director of America's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), said that although experts were concerned about the possibility of severe cases, the majority so far had been "mild, self-limited illness".
The new virus lacked the traits that made the 1918 flu pandemic so deadly, another CDC official said.
CONFIRMED CASES
Mexico: 176 suspected deaths - 16 confirmed
US: One death, at least 141 confirmed cases
New Zealand: 4 confirmed, 12 probable cases
Canada: 35 confirmed cases
UK: 13 confirmed cases
Spain: 13 confirmed cases
Germany: 4 confirmed cases
France: 2 confirmed cases
Israel, Costa Rica: 2 confirmed cases each
The Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, South Korea: 1 confirmed case each

Broham is
a close buddy, compadre, smoking and/drinking buddy. a term of endearment between men to reaffirm heterosexuality

And Broham is in Irish as pronounced Brohym. Anyway enough with the dictionary Todoroki...

Wow i dunno but I don't see this getting very far. If though China had not contained that man and he was running free arund China then we should worry.

Well, we got about 6 cases of "hamthrax" in my state. And one case showed up in a city that's 20 miles south of where I am.

Either way, I'm going to be careful if I go down there.

My country is reasonably far from Mexico and many preparations are being made. I feel reasonably safe about this swine flu crisis.

I saw that site on the 'zombies', looked at the URL and 'lol'd'.
I was a little doubting.. and then when I saw 'Bouncewithme' I was like.. aha! XD
They could have made the URL more believable. :D

Hamthrax? A new name for the swine flu?. It's like adding hamster and anthrax... >_>

Nevertheless, I've read the news, and it's pretty serious. And goodness, I live far from Mexico.

ATTN: EVERYONE WHO IS BOYCOTTING PIG MEAT BECAUSE OF THIS FLU THING.

Do some research - eating ham or bacon or whatever will not give you hamthrax. =)
Although, maybe it IS time to panic - hamthrax zombies! =O

LOL. I use the BBC a LOT for my news so I was like "O_______o" when I saw that then I looked at the URL XD. I'd read World War Z so....if it was true that Solanium has popped up then the Government will be covering this up. >.> (Yeah I love that book)https://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8028169.stm

See I posted that earlier too. But no one cares about my posts. XD

Flu death toll 'less than feared'

Mexico has revised down the suspected death toll from swine flu from 176 to 101, indicating that the outbreak may not be as bad as was initially feared.
Health Minister Jose Angel Cordova told the BBC that, based on samples tested, the mortality rate was comparable with that of seasonal flu.
The news came as Mexico continues a five-day shutdown in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus.
Globally, 16 countries have now reported swine flu cases.
Five countries outside Mexico have confirmed person-to-person transmission.
China is trying to stop the spread of the virus, after getting its first case on Friday.
It says it will quarantine all those who travelled on a flight from Mexico with a man suffering from swine flu.
Flights from Mexico have been suspended, and fellow guests and staff at the Hong Kong hotel where he was staying have been quarantined.
South Korea has also now confirmed a case of the virus.

So yes we should be happy that this outbreak is leveling off and calm down a bit. ^_^

But as I said earlier...this could come back stronger. D:

Of course it could Netto. We could have a zombie outbreak on out hands! You know while that sounds completely idiotic it is completely possible.

As Netto said, it will, or might come stronger. Most diseases we know mutates into a stronger strain. That's why get shots every year, to protect us from this improved strains.

And what's with the zombies?

Oh people cannot see the Zombie article?
There has been a small outbreak of "zombism" in London due to mutation of the H1N1 virus into new strain: H1Z1.
Similar to a scare originally found in Cambodia back in 2005, victims of a new strain of the swine flu virus H1N1 have been reported in London.
After death, this virus is able to restart the heart of it's victim for up to two hours after the initial demise of the person where the individual behaves in extremely violent ways from what is believe to be a combination of brain damage and a chemical released into blood during "resurrection."
The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised the alert to phase six, its highest level, and advised governments to activate pandemic contingency plans.
In Mexico, the epicentre of the outbreak, President Felipe Calderon urged people to stay at home over the next five days.

There are many cases elsewhere - including the US, Canada, Latin America, Europe, Israel, and New Zealand.
BBC health correspondent Mark McGrith says the raising of the WHO alert on Wednesday suggests a global epidemic, or pandemic, is imminent.
In the latest developments:

  • The Netherlands confirms its first case of zombie swine flu, in a three-year-old boy recently returned from Mexico. After passing away early this morning, he rose from the dead and lunged at his mother.
  • Ghana has become the latest country to ban pork imports as a precaution against swine flu, though no cases have been found in the West African country
  • China's health minister says that the country's scientists have developed a "sensitive and fast" test for spotting swine flu in conjunction with US scientists and the WHO. The country has recorded no incidence of the flu yet. There methods, however, have been uneffective in spotting the H1Z1 strain.
At the meeting of health ministers in Luxembourg, a French proposal for a continent-wide travel advisory for Mexico will be discussed.

It is unclear whether the EU executive has the power to impose a travel ban.
Several countries have restricted travel to Mexico and many tour operators have cancelled holidays.
Other members are resisting calls to implement travel bans or close borders, on the grounds - backed by the WHO - that there is little evidence of their efficacy.
The EU ministers will also try to agree on how to refer to the new virus.
The European Commission has been calling it "novel flu", replacing the word "swine" to avoid prompting a fall in demand for pork and bacon.
On Wednesday, Egypt began a mass slaughter of its pigs - even though the WHO says the virus was now being transmitted from human to human.

So yeah its pretty funny while being something completely scary.
