Books 2020 Reading Challenge

Update: I haven't been doing this. Troy is supposed to be doing this virtual book club thingy, not sure how he's planning it, and I volunteered for it and stuff... so I may be reading whatever he chooses and stuff. Right now, he's figuring out what genre everyone would like to read. Scifi/Fantasy/Thriller has the most votes. I might try to read something in the mean time since I'm self-isolating and such. I also have Camp NaNoWriMo coming up and Retro Replay on Thursdays... eh... I'll work something out!

Also, can you update my username, Tyler? :3

7/30

I have more books to update here.

Outsider by Stephen King. It was great. I loved it from start to finish and it's first King book in a while that had ending.

Then I read more books from Czech educators and psychologists.

Pedagogickopsychologická diagnostika žáka (Pedagogical-psychological diagnostics of student) is a book about... Well, Pedagogical-psychological diagnostics. And it was pretty good introduction book to this topic. Plus about third of the book is about statistical data processing which was nice.

Učebnice z pohledu pedagogického výzkumu (Textbooks from the perspective of educational research) is book about textbooks. It describes history and modern trends of educational research of textbook in Czech Republic and also presents several research made in last few years. Was pretty interesting.

Well, I think he forgot about it because I haven't heard much on this (not unless it's part of his BIG news, which I doubt). With that said, I've really been trying to worm my way into reading. I just have to find the right book. ;w; That's always really challenging for me because I have to be in the mood for said book. I know I've been meaning to read this one book, and it's one of the Miss Peregrine books... the first one. Since I'm in self-isolation (off and on because I can't deal with the tension and changes in routine ugh), I really think this is a good time to get back into reading instead of just sitting on my ass and complaining that I'm bored or going stir crazy... don't you think? 8D

Well, I'm currently in the process of reading 1984 and I want to read a couple other books, so maybe this will help hold me accountable to that. Soooo.... I'm not much of an avid reader (outside of fanfiction, lmao), lemme just start with 5, please. :)

Read Pyongang, then Checkpoint Charlie, a book about allied military espionage in East Germany, then moved on to The Death of Democracy, a book explaini gHitler's takeover. That ends my German History Year, most likely.

Then I moved on to Lingo, A Language-Spotter's Guide to Europe because I adore language facts, and finally I read the comic "Los Cabecicubos" (The Cubeheads), a superhero parody featuring a mysterious illness that makes people's heads turn square. Fitting for the current timeline.

19/35.

Uhhhh... (sweats). How do I put this.

In this month, I've read... two more books. The Toddler in Chief, by Daniel W. Drezner, which used the "How to care for your child" guide of the American Association of Pedatry to describe how the current President of the US has the mental development of a 3-year-old and what that means for the political system at large.

Then I moved to White Fragility, by Robin DiAngelo, a quick description of how racism affects the behaviour of white people when confronted with it.

...and all the while I read *10* comics, following the series I had started reading in my previous post, Superlópez, and an anniversary book explaining the originis of the series and analysing its best moments. Then also 2 more comics from the Zorglub series, a spin-off of Spirou. That makes 34/35 planned for the whole year, which uuuuhhhh I think I'm going to beat by far as I've started reading Chernobyl as well.

...might increase my challenge to 60 books at this rate.

aaa My challenge has kinda flopped personally. I started listening to The Hobbit on Audiobook, and for some reason, I just can't quite get into it. I've read it before a long time ago and I really enjoyed it, so I'm not sure if maybe I'm just ~not in the mood for fantasy~ or what. I've been listening to a ton of podcasts instead lmao

I've read the richest man in Babylon and lots of free books for a book I'm working on. I also finished the first Gunslinger book by Stephen King and it was slow at first, but I liked the later half. Was hard to focus at first for some reason.

I finished a couple more:
- "Five Weeks in a Balloon", Jules Verne
- "Around the World in Eighty Days", Jules Verne
- "Facing the Flag", Jules Verne
- "The Master of the World", Jules Verne
- "Die Kunst des Zeichnens - Anatomie, Figuren, Posen" (a book about drawing human anatomy and stuff)
- "20000 Leagues Under the Sea", Jules Verne (theoretically two books, but w/e)

[12/12]

My Top 3 of this year:
- Moby Dick
- Musashi
- 20000 Leagues Under the Sea

Done and now I need a break from those "do x amount of y" challenges...

I'm staring at the book I need to finish to meet my 2020 goals. I'll soon start reading the words in it to finish it. lol

well girls i did not accomplish my goal this year! i only read about eleven books lmao...,, maybe 2021 will be my year
actually counting comics i read 17!!! and i read 4 volumes of Shaman King. so that would put me at 21!

if i create a thread for 2021, would anyone join?

yes, i'd join a 2021 thread. i'm gonna set my goals to be reading the books on my bookshelf and publicly list what they are ahead of time, if 2021 reading challenge is a go.

the real challenge was the friends we found along the way

Yeah, I'll be back for the 2021 challenge...I'll actually keep a spreadsheet as well, so even if I can't post updates frequently I'll be able to keep an accurate count. I went well over 100 this year counting comics, but I'm not sure by how much, and it would have been nice to know. Expect my goal to be around 100 again, although I may count comics slightly differently next time.

Also there will be a Video Game equivalent of this going up on January 1st, you should all participate in that too!

Before I join 2021 thread, I just want to put together the list of books I've read in 2020 here, so I can adjust a threshold for next year:
Also the list is without authors, because I would spend an eternity looking for some of them
Spoiler:

So I did beat 30 books by a lot, especially thanks to The Walking Dead re-read. By the look at the list, I did some pretty huge books like A Clash of Kings and A Storm of Swords and a lot of math-related books. I usually read through multiple math books with same topic at once to make sure I understand it
