Event 2025 Reading Challenge!

Finished six books:

How to Stand Up to a Dictator - Maria Ressa
Nuclear War: A Scenario - Annie Jacobsen
The Death of Expertise (2nd Edition) - Tom Nichols
Mediocre: The Dangerous Legacy of White Male Power - Ijeoma Oluo
Sunrise on the Reaping - Suzanne Collins
Life is a Lazy Susan of Sh*t Sandwiches - Jennifer Welch, Angie Sullivan

That brings up my 2025 count to 8/12!

I finished Day of Ascension by Adrian Tchaikovsky. I think that puts me at 3 now? It was a very short book, finished it over a weekend. I liked it, it wasn't amazing but it was an interesting read. I'd recommend it if you like the 40k Universe but otherwise probably not so much. Now I need to think about which book to read next...

Just finished The Storm Crow, which was recommended to me ages ago. I wouldn't say I'm the target demographic, but I enjoyed it. Cool worldbuilding and (mostly) well-written characters. 8/15

Back to reading the re:zero stuff next, although I'd like to read another proper crime or horror book soon too.

Updated the rest of the OP too.

Would love to join along with the reading challenge and pledge 50 books! Not sure if I will make it through, but so far I have read 27 books. Some of the highlights have been:

A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki
Bel Canto by Ann Patchett
Tracks by Louise Erdrich
The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood
Nana (vol. 1) by Ai Yazawa

Right now I'm reading volume 2 of Nana, Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri and The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. I've got a bunch of manga I need to catch up on too before the next semester of college starts. Hoping to pull through.

Welcome! Glad to have you with us!

Sounds like you really enjoy female authors! Do you have a favourite?

I will add you to the pledge list right now 😊

Thank you so much for adding me to the list!

My favorite would be a tie between Jean Rhys and Louise Erdrich! Their writings are so poignant and powerful. I found Rhys difficult to read at first because of the subject matters she explores throughout her work, but now appreciate how she was able to examine her life and the lives of others through writing. Erdrich's work is phenomenal and I would recommend Love Medicine, Tracks, and The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse to anyone who is interested in reading her work.

I forgot to include it on the list of favorites from this year, but I loved Tommy Orange's There There and I need to read Wandering Stars.
