30 Days of Gaming Challenge

Day 16: Game With The Best Cutscenes.

I gotta give this one to Bioshock Infinite.

I loved Songbird. Absolutely. Adored. Songbird.

Spoiler:

An honorable mention to A Bird Story. That little birdie was just too cute, popping his little head out of the tree on the balcony -- and he's much better at playing hide and seek than the birds in Animal Crossing.
And a mention to the Gears of War trilogy, especially the scene in 2 with a particular riftworm.

Day 16 - Game with the best cut scenes.
When I think of cutscenes, I think Final Fantasy. And one of the things that's really stuck with me for years now is the beginning of Final Fantasy XIII. As the first FF on the PS3, everyone had high expectations for the graphics but it totally blew me away. I remember when it seamlessly pushed you from FMV to realtime graphics to an actual fight all at once? My mind was totally blown! I couldn't believe it! The game itself had a lot of problems and the story was hard to follow unless you religiously kept up with the freaking dictionary in the menu, but man the cutscenes were gorgeous. And if you don't like 'em, they were completely skippable. So I'm going with FF13 for my choice. :x

Day 16 - Game with the best cut scenes.

Let's see, I know I'm going to say final fantasy but it's really a toss up between X and XII. I really didn't like XIII's cutscenes and I never played XI, and since XV hasn't came out I'm going to say the game with the best cutscenes would be either Final Fantasy X or Final Fantasy XII. X's cutscenes were pretty good in the way they are able to express the characters' emotions, the voice acting usually wasn't too off putting, and the graphics were and still are pretty good. And then I just really liked XII's cutscenes.

Day 17 - Favorite antagonist.

I'm honestly terrible at thinking of every antagonist I've ever seen and fought against, but Pagan Min stands out as a truly enjoyable antagonist. He's crazy, thinks you're awesome, blows crap up, and kills whoever annoys him. He's Vaas from Far Cry 3 on crack and he's 100x better for it.

17. Favorite Antagonist

[PokeCommunity.com] 30 Days of Gaming Challenge

Jon Irenicus of Baldur's Gate II. Sadistic, sociopathic, powerful, extremely cunning, obsessed with revenge, mercilessly and easily kills anything short of the main character and his/her party, and voiced by David Warner.

Day 17 - Favorite antagonist.

I would have to say Kefka. I haven't played all the way through the game, but I've watched enough playthroughs to know that this is my favorite antagonist...and he has one of the coolest battle themes. For those of you who know kefka, you know why I say this. For those of you who don't here is an article which explains it much better than I could. And reasons other than what it states there, you have to amass a small army to defeat the guy. Most games you get your 3-6 people and just pound away pound away...no. Here's 15 or so people that if you're not leveled enough will die pretty easily and then there they go can't use them anymore. Oh that was your favorite character? Too bad. They're dead.

Day 17 - Favorite antagonist.

Xigbar from Kingdom Hearts II, He's awesome, His voice is awesome, His Personality is awesome and his Arrowguns are awesome (He's USUALLY my Org. XIII member of choice for 358/2 Day's Mission Mode) :)

Day 16 - Game with the best cut scenes.

FINAL FANTASY X

Final Fantasy games in general have really great cutscenes (the prerendered ones, anyway), but I guess X is one of the most memorable to me because it was the first FF game I ever played. And Spira is a really beautiful place - I don't mean just graphically (which it is, especially for like a 2001 game), but every location from the small villages to the beaches and forests, even the ruins, were really well designed, imo. I don't know how else to describe it but the scenes just always looked really 'magical', with the floating pyreflies everywhere and pretty scenery.

Again, the scenery and landscapes looked great (mentioned this in another thread, but I really like the 'reclaimed by nature' look - just because it's a post-apocalyptic world doesn't mean it always has to be set in a dusty, gross wasteland), and everything from the writing/dialogue, interactions and acting of the scenes were all so well done.

Day 17 - Favorite antagonist.
I guess this was somewhat predictable but I'm also really bad at remembering most antagonists, so here, have this iconic Final Fantasy guy

SEPHIROTH
[PokeCommunity.com] 30 Days of Gaming Challenge

I think he sticks in my mind most because he's not just 'that psychotic guy who drives the plot' for no reason, we actually get to see his descent into madness throughout the FFVII Compilation. And he was like a pretty swell guy before he went crazy too, as well as a celebrated hero, which makes him more interesting (and kind of sad that he became what he did). His motives are clear, and on some level I actually sympathised with him, because I can't blame him for going insane after finding out what he did.

Honorable mention: Sho Minamimoto because who doesn't love a quirky bastard that collects garbage and insults everyone using math

Day 17, Favorite antagonist

First off, not all antagonists are villainous characters. Sometimes they are the more heroic characters. One such hero antagonist comes from Saints Row the Third. Let me tell you about the leader of S.T.A.G., Cyrus Temple. Things he does during the game include the following: launching an attack on the Saints HQ, enforcing extreme martial law, having bridges raised to restrict access to certain parts of Steelport. Plus throughout the game, he wants to use the Daedalus, a

Day 17 - Favorite antagonist

I like Dimentio from Super Paper Mario, but I think Luca Blight from Suikoden II is still my favorite. The dude is just insane, and his bloodlust and power are just unmatched. He didn't have any sort of supernatural power, but it took almost your whole army (3 parties of 6 characters) to finally take him down. There's no sudden realization/epiphany as he finally dies and instead yells his famous quote, "It took hundreds to kill me but I killed humans by the thousands. I am sublime!!! I am the true face of evil!!!!"

Despite that, you still kinda feel for the guy and what drove him to madness.

Day 17 - Favorite antagonist

....Don't act like you didn't know I was going to post this.

BUT, Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7. I hear everyone (It feels like that at least.) bitch about how Kefka was the best antagonist from the series, but he's the honestly very cliche. Sephiroth, on the other hand, is a very original, unique, and generally good antagonist. He's a very good, well developed character. But I'd probably just be reiterating what Juno already said if I go into a lot of detail. But unlike SO many other characters I've seen he had a realistic motive, and that make him more memorable to me.

Day 17 - Favorite antagonist.
For a very long time (until Birth by Sleep), Marluxia was my favourite game character of all time. He really only shows up in Chain of Memories, but he's the final boss in it and he still got more characterization than most of the Organization members in other games. I think he's interesting, his personality is one of my favourites (even if he doesn't have much of a personality... although that is actually something interesting when it comes to KH), and I like his motif and attacks. 8) He's also a lot of fun to play as in Mission Mode in KH 358/2 Days, especially when you forget to turn off friendly-fire because the way he deals tons of damage to everything around him is very in-character. Also, pink hair! Whoo! (He is also, in a roundabout way, the reason I like Cherrim so much. I was coming up with Pokémon teams for my favourite KH characters back when Diamond/Pearl came out and the moment I saw Cherrim and its cherry blossom motif--a motif that Marluxia shares--I was like "damn it's perfect!" and so I set out to catch one and my very first Cherrim was a male named Marluxia. ♥)

Day 18 - Favorite protagonist.

Lee Everett is one of the best protagonists in modern gaming. He's a genuinely good guy (though you could make him a bit of a meanie) who cares about Clem and his friends. Not only does Lee do everything in his power to keep them safe, but he sacrifices a lot to ensure his "sweet pea" is safe.

Whew, I'm cutting this one close! I actually just sent in all my homework for this past week, too. Guess I shouldn't have played Divinity for 13 hours straight yesterday/this morning. :P

Day 17: Favorite antagonist.

This may be inspired by my latest 3DS purchase, but... Baby Bowser from Yoshi's Island.

Yes, seriously.

Just look at him. You start out in this adorable nursery with this adorable baby bowser. He's not menacing at all. It's adorable as fuck. Like the rest of this game. And almost every other Nintendo game ever, this part of the fight just has that special charm to it.

[PokeCommunity.com] 30 Days of Gaming Challenge

And then he becomes Super-Mega-Baby-Bowser

[PokeCommunity.com] 30 Days of Gaming Challenge

And all the wee-tots in the room shit their pants.

This was one of the most memorable boss fights for me -- I don't even care that, at the end of the day, Bowser is a terrible antagonist. He's like a B-movie antagonist.
But the fights are what stick with me, and I loved everything about this one. c:
I also don't have any better answers, so take the adorable baby bowser.

18. Favorite Protagonist

I know I already said Link, but I'm going to go with someone else for this:

The Nameless One (Planescape: Torment)

[PokeCommunity.com] 30 Days of Gaming Challenge

You can keep your bishies and your pretty-boys, the Nameless One is above all that. He's scarred all over, has a deep gruff voice, and often smells of formaldehyde, and yet somehow he still manages to get all da ladies.

He also happens to be immortal, but the driving force of the game is that up until the events of the game, every time he "dies" he loses his memory. It's unknown as to how long this has been going on, perhaps thousands if not hundreds-of-thousands of years. But our protagonist here is determined to discover the truth about himself, why he came to be this way, and how he can finally rest. And that's all he cares about. He's not out to save the world, not even a kingdom, not even the multiverse itself...he just wants to find out about his past.

And given that this is a Western CRPG, you can have him act however you want, but when you choose to be a Villain Protagonist, be prepared to do some insanely soul-destroying cruel acts involving psychological manipulation and mental abuse. Or be a paragon of virtue. Or anything in between. The Nameless One is good at pulling off any of these.

He also likes updating his journal. A LOT.

Day 18 - Favorite protagonist.

This is actually really hard. But I'ma go real simple.

Spoiler:

Day 18, Favorite Protagonist

When it comes to favorite protagonist, I am going to go with Master Chief from the Halo series. First off, he is a SPARTAN II supersoldier. When the books are added in, he has been in the UNSC military since he first started training at the age of six. Plus after the events of the first Halo game, the Covenant refer to him as "Demon." So they see him as a worthy opponent.
