A couple of months had passed since Professor Lyra's call for help. Letters had been sent to people's houses, notices had been posted in every PokéMart and PokéCenter throughout Johto and the neighboring regions, there was even a TV broadcast about the situation. All that proved effective as, soon enough, numerous trainers volunteered to help Lyra with her research.
A meeting had been set at the Cinawood Laboratory and Pokémon Sanctuary Complex and, on the fateful day, all the trainers that answered Lyra's call of help arrived at the Complex in order to obtain their Trainer Starter Kit consisting of
3000, a Pokédex, a custom PokéGear, a potion and five PokéBalls.
The meeting at the Cianwood Complex is a great opportunity for trainers to interact with one another and maybe even set off on their journey together.

The Cianwood Laboratory and Pokémon Sanctuary is conveniently placed on the plateau in the northern side of Cianwood City, a short walk on a mountain route away from the City. The Complex consists of various buildings that serve as homes for the small group of scientists and caretakers that work there.
A building that resembles an inn is situated on the left side of the path and serves as a temporary shelter for Pokémon Trainers visiting the Complex. The three stories building can accommodate up to thirty trainers in its eight rooms and the additional building behind it. On the ground floor, there's a kitchen for trainers to use and separate bathrooms for female and male trainers, as well as a small lounge.
The first thing trainers visiting the Complex see as they reach the top of the plateau is a small berry garden, right next to the "inn". Trainers are allowed to pick up to three berries each. Should they pick more, they have to replant the extras.
To the right, a rather large building serves the same purpose as a PokéCenter. During the day, the Pokémon living at the Complex are constantly brought in for check-ups and treatment so the place is pretty crowded. Should a trainer need assistance, they will have to wait for a while, unless their case is one of emergency.
A pretty looking building situated close to the "inn" serves as living quarters for all the scientists and caretakers living at the complex. Trainers are not allowed inside.
Further ahead, across the river and up the hill, in the heart of the Complex, trainers can find the Pokémon Laboratory and Lyra's residence. The Laboratory is quite a large building that doesn't stand out through its design, but rather its position. Various training facilities and research rooms can be found inside, as well as a library full of old books and maps. Trainers only have access in the main Hall, the Conference room and in the large hall. Every other area is off limits. The Laboratory has a penthouse that serves as Lyra's home.
The entire Complex was built to accommodate all the various types of Pokémon. Various resting places can be found across the entire Complex. Resting places usually consist of benches and small wells, as well as Oran and Pecha Berry shrubs that trainers and Pokémon alike can pick berries from as long as they don't damage the shrubs and remember to plant some back.
The Complex serves as shelter for injured wild Pokémon and for the Pokémon various trainers catch and send back to Lyra when they already have six Pokémon travelling with them. Wild Pokémon can usually be found on the outskirts of the complex, deep inside the forest and at the base of the mountain. Unfortunately, the weird shifts in the Pokémon activity affected the wild Pokémon in this area as well.
