[PokeCommunity.com] 5th Gen Pokemon of the Week #3: Genesect!

Genesect is a Bug and Steel type pokemon who resembles an insect-like creature, with a metal body and a saucer-shaped head. It's most notable feature is the cannon on it's back, which it is able modify itself. Techno Blast is its signature move, from that. The "Drive" inserted in the cannon on its back changes color depending on what drive it holds! From that, it's Techno Blast changes:

This is it's Burn Drive, indicated when the drive is red. Techno Blast becomes a Fire move.

It's chill drive can be seen here while the drive is a white color. Techno Blast changes to an Ice type move.

Douse Drive is indicated by it's blue color. Techno Blast becomes a Water type move.

Shock Drive is yellow, and as you can guess, Techno Blast becomes an Electric move!

And finally, this is it's normal state - when it's not holding a drive. Thus, Techno Drive becomes a normal move.

    Moves:

    --- Fell Stinger
    --- Techno Blast
    --- Quick Attack
    --- Magnet Rise
    --- Metal Claw
    --- Screech
    7 Fury Cutter
    11 Lock-On
    18 Flame Charge
    22 Magnet Bomb
    29 Slash
    33 Metal Sound
    40 Signal Beam
    44 Tri Attack
    51 X-Scissor
    55 Bug Buzz
    62 Simple Beam
    66 Zap Cannon
    73 Hyper Beam
    77 Self-Destruct

What do you think of Genesect? Have you used, or obtained one before? Do you like using Techno Drive to a particular type, or do you just take advantage of the moves Genesect could learn (ie. Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, etc)? Feel free to share any more thoughts!

Genesect's shiny form is one of the few shinies I actually like:

dat shade of red is pretty sexy

I also feel like if it had a couple more moves and a slight increase to its stats it'd be super amazeballs (even if it's already in Ubers......though no one uses it in Ubers).

I never really used this Pokemon from an in-game perspective since I'm usually never able to properly download events, but as Nah said Genesect does have that awesome red shiny going for him. The drives are a unique held item, but then when you look at Techno Blast from a competitive aspect, the Douse Drive is really the only one worth it when you consider it already learns its other drives' types through TMs.

Oh well, at least it's another Bug/Steel-type and those tend to have awesome designs.

Genesect is one of the strangest Pokemon in the franchise; like ho did this thing even show up? Was it a fossil resurrected, or was it made in some lab? It looks like half bug, half robot. This is one of the Pokemon that would give little tikes nightmares, and weirded me out a bit when it was first released. I never caught one in game, but used it a lot when I battled competitively, because honestly this thing kicked ass in the 5th. game metagame. It was fast and had powerful attacks; never really played 6th. gen competitively so meh. Genesect seems like an evil Pokemon, particularly in the anime. I think it would be cool to see like a clash of Genesect army vs Mewtwo where Mewtwo becomes good and has to save the rest of the Pokemon with his army, and with the help of Mew and Ash he succeeds. That wold be a cool movie imo!

It's both really. Genesect was a Pokemon that lived ~300 million years ago that was resurrected by Team Plasma scientists, and then augmented with cybernetics in an attempt to make a powerful weapon for them to use. It's a bit reminiscent of Mewtwo in a way.

This was an intresting one, I rather liked Genesect :D I do perfer the shiny, it just seems to fit the design a whole lot better the the regular purple does.
