Disagree, I don't see that being possible.

I 100% agree with you!On some fundamental level maybe. But I need a lot more affirmation of the things I did well. Lack of positive feedback can leave you dismotivated because what's left is your failures. So, in that sense I disagree.
I've always seen these types of course less as a means to learn self defense. And more of a thing that teaches you to compose yourself during bad situations like this. Like, you should expect during such a situation to only get out a single of those "moves" at the most. So, all your effort should be focuses to find a way out (aka. run away as fast as possible). Basically: if you can find yourself in a position to do a counterattack the only point of it should be to move you around in such a way that "sprit to safety" is the thing you can do immetiately after.I'm not sure whether I agree or disagree.
Sure it can give you confidence and what not.
However, in most cases, you are NOT trained enough. This confidence can actually harm you. Let's say someone threatens you with a knife; most moves you learn at self-defense classes are unrealistic, and knowing these moves will make you attempt things that will not work. Like, people using knifes as weapons don't use them like swords, and yet, the few moves you learn at a self-defense class, are literally sword moves done with knives.
