2016 is almost coming to a close, and that brings up the big question: do you have an album of the year yet?

i dont really think i can exactly pinpoint a favorite but some of my favorites to arise this year were:

    • blonde - frank ocean
    • bucket list project - saba
    • telefone - noname
    • the life of pablo - kanye west
    • anti - rihanna
    • bonito generation - kero kero bonito
    • coloring book - chance the rapper
    • lil uzi vert vs the world - lil uzi vert
    • 4 your eyez only - j cole
    • "...awaken, my love!" - childish gambino

if i really HAD to choose though, i think id give it to blonde. its the one that really made the largest impact on my year.

ill update this post if j cole does something and earns a spot on my list, lol.

Not in any order (except alphabetical lol)
    1. ANOHNI – Hopelessness
    2. AURORA – All My Demons Greeting Me As A Friend
    3. Bon Iver – 22, A Million
    4. Chairlift – Moth
    5. Crystal Castles – Amnesty (I)
    6. Frank Ocean – Blonde
    7. Flume – Skin
    8. James Blake – The Colour in Anything
    9. Tourist – U
    10. Whitney – Light Upon the Lake

    i can't pick one as aoty ;~;

This is of course based solely only on albums I've listened to so far but here's my current top 10 favourite records from this year:

    • David Bowie - Blackstar
    • Danny Brown - Atrocity Exhibition
    • Frank Ocean - Blonde
    • Anderson .Paak - Malibu
    • Skepta - Konnichiwa
    • A Tribe Called Quest - We Got It From Here... Thank You 4 Your Service
    • ScHoolboy Q - Blank Face LP
    • YG - Still Brazy

Favourite from this list is Malibu, but Blonde and Atrocity come pretty close too

I tend to stay away from newer albums, as most of the people I like to listen to are now dead or no longer making music. I enjoy listening to lots of older music as opposed to new music.

For now, I'd go with I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it by The 1975. Maybe not the most critically acclaimed album, maybe a bit mainstream, but regardless its easily the album I enjoyed the most this year so far.

Other favourites from this year in no particular order -
    Frank Ocean - Blonde
    L?psley - Long Way Home
Kanye West - The Life of Pablo
Drake - Views (and the more I listen to it, the more it seems underrated)
Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
Regina Spektor - Remember Us To Life
Isaiah Rashad - The Sun's Tirade
Chance The Rapper - Colouring Book
James Blake - The Colour In Anything
    Skepta - Konnichiwa

J.Cole's new album would probably deserve a place in my favourites, but I've only listened to it once so far.

everything from here on is pretty irrelevant to the topic but yeah...

Albums I liked but weren't great for me personally include Banks' The Altar, Lady Gaga's Joanne, Mac Miller's The Divine Feminine, Beyonce's Lemonade, Animal Collective's Painting With, Lil Uzi Vert's Lil Uzi Vs The World, Anderson .paak's Malibu, YG's Still Brazy and Noname's telefone.

The only albums I'm really indifferent to that I've heard this year are Broods' Conscious and DJ Khaled's Major Key.

    Albums I didn't enjoy include M.I.A.'s aim, Future's Evol, Panic At The Disco's Death of a Bachelor, Bon Iver's 22, a million and Travi$ Scott's worstalbumnameofalltime.

I've been particularly bad at discovering new artists this year, with the exception of L?psley and Lil Uzi Vert, every artist I've mentioned is one I was previously a fan of. I'm currently going through a few albums on best album lists that I usually wouldn't have found and there's some good finds, but it hasn't really changed my big favourites for this year.

    tl;dr in bold

Here's my ranking of the 20 albums I bought this year. I like a number of releases more than some of the lower ranked entries (probs the Radiohead, the James Blake and the Maren Morris) but not enough to buy them outright. I was going to write big long things about each of them, but ain't nobody got time for that. Not me to write it nor you guys to read it. Having said that, I'd recommend all of these to some extent. So, without further ado:

    1. Sturgill Simpson - A Sailor's Guide to Earth
    2. Beyonce - Lemonade
    3. Margo Price - Midwest Farmer's Daughter
    4. Bon Iver - 22, A Million
    5. Chance the Rapper - Coloring Book
    6. Solange - A Seat at the Table
    7. Mitski - Puberty 2
    8. Brandy Clark - Big Day in a Small Town
    9. Kevin Morby - Singing Saw
    10. ANOHNI - Hopelessness
    11. Green Day - Revolution Radio
    12. Shearwater - Jetplane and Oxbow
    13. Danny Brown - Atrocity Exhibition
    14. Aaron Lee Tasjan - Silver Tears
    15. Weyes Blood - A Front Row Seat to Earth
    16. GoGo Penguin - Man Made Object
    17. Michael Kiwanuka - Love & Hate
    18. Sia - This is Acting
    19. case/lang/viers
    20. Gregory Porter - Take Me to the Alley

I'll just set my opinion on Wild World by Bastille, but others are also mentioned:

    The Astonishing - Dream Theater
    This Is Acting - Sia
These Systems are Failing - Moby

To be honest, this wasn't a very great year in music since i've mostly listened to albums from over 2 years ago.

Several dishonorable mentions go to all K-Pop albums. Go to hell.

Here's my Top 10, which I somehow found easier to pick than last year.
    • Bon Iver - 22, A Million
    • Catfish And The Bottlemen - The Ride
    • Childish Gambino - Awaken, My Love!
    • Empire Of The Sun - Two Vines
    • Flume - Skin
    • Glass Animals - How To Be A Human Being
    • Justice - Woman
    • Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
    • The Avalanches - Wildflower
    • The Last Shadow Puppets - Everything You've Come To Expect

These were definitely the releases I kept coming back to, because they all had something that ticked. My personal #1 of them would be Catfish And The Bottlemen, but Flume is a close second followed by Radiohead.

I was going to make a massive post and I had started it and it got eaten. I'm not retyping it. Here's my top ten:

    1. Lemonade - Beyonce
    2. Blackstar - David Bowie
    3. Starboy - The Weeknd
    4. Dangerous Woman - Ariana Grande
    5. WALLS - Kings of Leon
    6. This is Acting - Sia
    7. Joanne - Lady Gaga
    8. Coloring Book - Chance the Rapper
    9. Bobby Tarantino - Logic
    10. "Awaken, My Love!" - Childish Gambino

    Honorable mentions:
    Black America Again - Common
    4 Your Eyez only - J. Cole
    Glory Days - Little Mix
Stillness in Wonderland - Little Simz
A Moon Shaped Pool - Radiohead
A Seat at the Table - Solange
