Are Shinies that important?

    I know they look cool and all, also there is no beneficially stat wise, but why are people soo bent on getting these?
     
    Are they important? Yes. Are they valuable any more? Not really. With the numerous ways introduced to get shinies, even from the beginning, it's beginning to get a bit ridiculous. They were once great surprises, owning just one would be a feat in itself. And I think that's mainly why people collect them, if it's not for cool alternate coloring. Ultimately, they're still rare, and thus sought after, but the whole concept is just losing value so quickly it's unbelievable. I must sound like the biggest hypocrite right now because I was/am truly excited by all the new ways to get shiny Pokemon. But now as I sit here with a box full of 11 shinies, it's just not as special as it once was.
     
    I do quite like catching a shiny pokemon every now and then but they have become a lot easier to obtain. All you really have to do is trade for a Japanese ditto and breed a crap ton. The reason people like them is because they are different...pretty really. The colors are changed and they are very rare however there is no difference between them and a normal pokemon except this special coloring.
     
    Well, for people that don't know how to RNG and don't have the patience to breed and breed and breed pokemon just to get shinies, they are important and valuable. My first and only legit shiny was a Nincada I ran into, in Emerald, when I was doing my Emerald run of my bug monotype. Needless to say that I used it in my challenge and even tho he's not the best pokemon out there in terms of moves and EVs and stuff, I'm still proud of it and it's important to me ^^

    All they are to me is Pokémon with a different color pallet. Hardly worth the efforts to get such a thing, if I say so myself.
     
    I'm sure you'd like to think they're some sort of good-luck charm but it's something like decorating your house. Is it worth it? Yes. Is it really important? No. I mean people aren't really bent towards them game wise but surely shiny hunting is a great thing to do.

    Besides, I'm sure you're gonna get bored of the same little Pokémon you've got there and would like to have a more suitable replacement for bragging to your peers.
     
    Takes shinies like those animals with a particular rare coat. There's nothing special about the dog other than the certain pattern, or color, the coat is but it's so rare that you try for one anyways and when you do its an accomplishment. And when you just stumble upon it by accident then it's something you can brag about to others.

    Basically while they serve no purpose battle wise they do serve in an aesthetic way. That and people like rare things and if they don't know how to RNG then spending a long time trying to get a shiny is well worth it for them.
     
    in the past it was probably a cool thing to have because of its much vaunted rarity, but with the newest gen it is way more easier to find shinies that their value have decreased greatly.
     
    It's probably important to most because of the odds in finding one of these shinies, even though it doesn't have any beneficial stats compared to it's normal counterparts. Would it's shiny color also come into play here?
     
    I don't know how important others consider shiny to be, but to me, shinies are quite important. I find them to be more important than legendaries, in fact! Legendaries—you can get your hands on them pretty easily via in-game events. But as for shiny Pokémon, they all depend on luck. You could encounter shinies with the help from PokéRader, Masuda method, soft reset, etc., but those require a bit of a luck as well. So far, I've been able to run into shiny Pokémon for about five or six times. Shiny Litleo was the most recent. I've been able to encounter it on Route 22 at the beginning of Pokémon Y. (: I wasn't able to capture though, unfortunately. When I stumbled into this Pokémon, I was trying to weaken it up a bit, so that I'd be having an easier time when capturing. But when I landed an attack on it, it quickly became a critical hit, making it faint in an instant. If I had successfully caught it, though, then I definitely would have made it a part of my team.

    Shinies are... Well, I kinda put them in a category of their own? Like Perdition Haze said, they're more important than legendaries. They're absolutely wonderful to have but not necessarily a mandatory pokemon to have. I've managed to catch all but two of the (roughly) twelve shinies that I've encountered. My most recent encounter and catch was a Buizel on Black 2, the route just north of Black City.

    All in all, yeah they're important but not mandatory and I really make no sense at all.
     
    They are important depending on who you are and how you think of them. I personally think they are important enough to find/capture, and they are rarer than legendaries, whether they be event or in-game. Especially now in X and Y you can search pokemon without even seeing them. But yeah, I think there important.

    Bragging rights, indeed. I've yet to talk to anyone who hasn't showed off their shiny. Not that it's a bad thing to show them off, I like getting to see what people have.
     
    Since I have no one to trade with, shinies are extremely special to me. When I get one, I really want to use it just because. It's something about bragging rights, yeah, haha. The only few times I have actually found a shiny though, it's usually a pokémon I'm not too keen on using, so I have to force myself xD Mostly I just think they look cool because they are different. Even a Magikarp or something - no one else inside my game will have a shiny Magikarp so mine is special.
     
    Are shinies important? None at all. They have usually the worse stats. Not to mention horrible nature. The only reason that people want it, is because of the pretty colors. I see them as pretty cool looking clothes at a expensive store, showing off it's display.

    They are only important if you find them yourself.But that doesnt mean that they will have the best nature or stats.
    I dont see the point of people getting shinies via trade.Unless it is your fave poke then i understand.
     
    I really think shiny Pokémon are very important as they provide the player with another challenge apart from collecting Pokémon and battling. It is also good for some players who dislike the look of the original sprites of the Pokémon. For example in fire red I disliked the color of golbat... but when I caught the shiny version of it I was extremely happy. It's color was black with red eyes... Just like a Dracula !!!! L:D
