Are you fake?

legit first edition holographic shiny

that's me honest I'm well not fake

also I probably act a little differently around different people but I reckon I'm pretty damn consistent overall!

Acting differently around different people doesn't make you fake. You hold different relationships with different people. You care about or interact with people differently depending on a whole variety of reasons. You hold different rapports, and that's not fake. Some people you're serious, some people you're shy, some people you're goofy, etc. That's genuine because you're being true to yourself and them in the scenario and given your history.

If you acted the same with everyone, that would be a persona. That would be fake

I usually act normally, but sometimes fake something.

The only time i do a major fake is when i talk nicely to people i don't know.

I act differently around people I don't know or I don't like, mostly by faking emotions and lying and the worst part is that I am doing it really well...

It's an interesting thought that to be "real" we have to be the same no matter who we're around. I change drastically depending on who's around me, and none of those 'personas' are fake. That's just how I am.

You can act differently around different people and have it be completely innocuous, but it can also be very damaging to yourself both in terms of your conscience and your reputation if the values you express in your different personas don't align with eachother, and also to others by way of ignoring, enabling and participating in problematic behaviours that you don't want to encourage and would normally call people out on.

There is a great danger posed by misunderstanding this and just interpreting it as "how/who you are"

I'm a little different with everyone but basically the same person. It just depends on comfort. Though I won't lie there are some people I am extremely fake to and this is because I don't care enough to be otherwise. Life is just easier being fake even to those you really dislike and in most cases being fake has worked out in favorable ways for me.

No I'm not fake. I'm the same freak with my friends as I am with my parents. I can be polite around certain people bit that just because I don't feel as comfortable around them but after a few hours I just break out of my shell and I'm me again. I wouldn't call myself fake, though.

I'm the exact opposite of "fake". My brutal honesty has gotten me into trouble many times. I would definitely say it's a fault and I wish I knew how to "fake" myself in certain situations.

I guess it's kind of like this. I live in 3 different places in Canada. Each place that I live in has slightly different social norms (it's kind of funny how different people from Edmonton and Toronto are). Also, some houses I visit have slightly different social norms. Same with university and work. I change how I act depending on the norm. I do change how I say things and how I act depending on who I am talking to. But my opinions on matters never change.

So I'll say I do match whatever the norms of the situation are (in a sence "faking" my language), but what I say is consistent with what I beleive (though I don't nessacarily feel I need to voice my opinion if it doesn't help a given situation).

Why is acting differently towards other people (or so-called being "fake") necessarily a bad thing anyways?

Of course, some people do it to manipulate others, but if you don't have ulterior motives, it's fine to act differently with other people.

Fake isn't the word for it, I suppose. I prefer deceptive. I must always check myself when talking to others, I must smile, I must pretend to like the other person. On the inside, I am full of contempt, rage, anger and hate. I rarely see any point in talking to the majority of people besides doing my job and dinking around, which I'm doing right now.

Smile, as you plunge your dagger deep into their gut. . .
