Aren't they revealing too much?

    Hi,

It feels like we're getting new Pokémons every two week, in huge batches.
I'm really happy with that, but I don't know, I feel like they're revealing too much too fast. At this rate, we'll have the full generation revealed by the release, and there won't be much left to discover I think...

    What's your opinion on that?

I don't think we're getting too much revealed, but then again we had literally no news in the first two months since the game announcement so there's that to remember.

I'm pretty sure Black & White did a similar thing. The way I see it is that they're compensating for the lack of content when the games were initially announced, we had nothing to go by for weeks other than titles. Another thing is that it could also mean that the amount of new Pokemon is higher than previously thought. If there are still plenty of new Pokemon to be revealed, it would mean we could be looking at 90-100 new species which would allow for the higher amount of reveals we've seen over the last few weeks.

But also keep in mind that they also revealed almost the entire Kalos roster during the XY hype, so who knows if they're doing it again for Sun and Moon.

I make so many connections between 5th Gen and 7th Gen as of late, and this appears to be another one of them. I recall that with Black & White we were in a news drought for a while after the game announcement and we only started getting new information after the mascot legendaries and starters were revealed in May-June 2010.

I'm likely expecting around 90-100 new Pokemon as well, because I could see the number being higher after the Kalos backlash over its notable lack of new Pokemon but at the same time not have too much so that development time went into other features as well.

Well during gen 6 they revealed 45 out of the 72 new Pokemon....which was almost two thirds of the new Pokemon. (48 would have been two thirds)

So I think if they have a lot more new Pokemon this time around it won't be that strange if we get a lot of Pokemon reveals each month. Since they'll probably be aiming to release over half of the new Pokemon again.

According to Joe Merrick's (Serebii) Twitter here some previous generations and how many of the new Pokemon were revealed before game release of their generation.

3rd Gen: 37 out of 135 new Pokemon
4th Gen: 30 out of 107 new Pokemon
5th Gen: 52 out of 156 new Pokemon
6th Gen: 42 out of 72 new Pokemon

Edit: Greninja'd but at the moment we have had 25 new Pokemon revealed for 7th Gen so at this stage we're 5 away from how many new 4th Gen Pokemon were revealed before Diamond & Pearl's release. 3 of the 25 7th Gen Pokemon revealed so far was an entire evolution line, that being Grubbin, Charjabug and Vikavolt. We also have 3 confirmed legendaries, although it could be 4 since Tapu Koko's description hints at it being a legendary.

It seems like gamefreak is putting a middle finger up to anyone claiming there are too many pokemon and eventually it will come to an end. They seem to be more focused on describing how these pokemon interact with each other as a distinctive regional ecosystem. Thus, the designs are more bizarre this generation and have a unique "niche" to them (this extends to the competitive game).

Who's to say we cannot have X many pokemon so long as they are not generic but instead are highly particularized toward a certain evolutionary fitness as are organism in real life.

I can definitely see the amount of pokemon exceeding 100 this gen, and well beyond, without any real concern about "running out of ideas".

Honestly I don't think we have THAT much information. Outside of the 25 Pokemon that we know, not much else has been revealed. We know very little about the region, we don't know anything about the gym leaders, evil organization, etc. It could just be that this will be a very large Pokedex and that could explain why so many have been revealed this quickly.

Have they revealed if megas are returning? if they are, I'd really like to see some of those revealed soon. I find it pretty odd that we have had none revealed or even had any existing ones showcased yet :S

It honestly doesn't matter to me. If anything, I like the continuous news updates they are providing. :D

No word on any megas. It'd an extremely odd move though if GameFreak were to scrap a major feature that they were parading about for all of Gen VI.

Hopefully we'll begin to get information on megas by next month's reveal. I'd be highly surprised if the next batch of information was solely a set of new Pokemon. But who knows!

If they keep going at the pace they are they could reveal half the new pokemon, which wouldn't be a bad thing assuming the amount is close to or above 100. I enjoy seeing new pokemon revealed, but what I want to know is if full customization is back and some info about region and evil organization.

There's more to the game than the pokémon it introduces. Yes, we know lots of pokémon, but if the games were released tomorrow we'd have absolutely everything to discover about plot, gyms, and features.

We have tons left to discover, they're not spoiling us at all.

At least thus far. I don't think that GF/Nintendo will spoil the whole thing, but I have I fear that we could get a repeat of XY, or if we get a demo like with OrAS, someone will datamine everything before the official release date.

A couple of months down the line I think it's definitely possible that they'll have given lots away, but I think right now we're in a good spot. The unusually large amount of pokémon is balanced out by the unusually small amount of other stuff at the moment, so unless we get another Kalos dex shock things should be fine.

I'd be a little surprised if we got a demo for this honestly, they're not gonna let us repeat the ORAS thing.
