Lol I just wish they'd have put more thought into it, that's all.

Since when has Nintendo put an egregious amount of effort into the English names of Pokémon?

You should still at least give them credit for still being able to come up with names after so many generations.

True, true. I gotta say, one of the more creative names would have to be Spinda or Numel. Even though they're derivatives (like all Pokémon names), they still have an original feel to it! :D

Hey some of the Japanese names for the Gen 1 Pokemon are even worst. Like Gastly is Ghos and Haunter is Ghost..... Beedrill's name is Spear and Pidgeotto is Pigeon. Vaporeon , Jolteon and Flareon are Showers, Thunders, and Booster. Articuno , Zapdos and Moltres are Freezer, Thunder and Fire. Hypno and Drowsee are Sleeper and Sleep. And in Gen II, Snubull is Bull.

The best one is Magmar's Japanese name, which is Boober.

I think a lot of the Japanese name are just combinations of two words as well, they just look cooler cause it's Japanese and not English.

Haha, Boober. One of my favorite Japanese Pokémon names would have to be Urugamosu. It rolls off the tongue pretty nicely; I just love saying it.

Dammit. I'm never looking at Magmar the same ever again, thank you very much.

According to Merriam-Webster, boob can mean a foolish person or... well, a breast. It's also the name of a character from Fraggle Rock [broadcast in America, the UK, and Canada btw]. I dunno which one "Boober" is trying to imply. I don't want to guess, either.

Slightly irrelevant, but I feel stupid for just having realized that Spiritomb weighs 108 kilograms because it's made of 108 spirits...

mind blew up nevertheless

Serperior is 10' 10" tall. Pretty mind-blowing imo, considering it's taller than anyone I know... or than the height of the floor to the ceiling in my apartment for that matter.

...okay fine it's not mind blowing at all

Its really not that hard.

I wish my job was to come up with Pokémon names. I imagine they get paid pretty fabulously as well.

A lot of Korean names are similar, if not identical to Japanese names as well.

Well Korean is probably pretty similar to Japanese...

...isn't it?

no seriously, it might just look different but is actually spoken pretty similarily, whereas Japanese looks similar to Chinese yet these two are spoken very differently

Being involved in an anime orientated fandom for such a long, long time has turned me off to anything related to Japan.

I've heard enough kawaii desus to last me a few lifetimes.

Actually for me being in the anime fandom has made me want to know more Japanese. Everyone can call me a weeabo now.

All I ever watched was Fruits Basket on box set, InuYasha on Adult Swim, and Pokémon via torrent. Other than that I can positively say I watch zero anime.

Aaron, you should know my sister has a friend that's half-Mexican and half-Japanese, and she speaks fluent Japanese, Spanish, and English. They like to call each other onee-chan, whatever that's supposed to mean. :P
