Has anyone else seen this? I am looking forward to it immensely, and I can't wait for it to come out! It looks like it's going to be a great anime!

Ok, more info needed, obviously. The anime, scheduled for release in spring 2010, is based off the music video for the song entitled 'BLACKROCK SHOOTER' by the Japanese group Supercell. The original song was created with Vocaloid software, which allows you to create music by inputting lyrics and melody.

Not much is known about the anime at this time, but it looks to be pretty action-packed, with what seems to be a mixture of fantasy (an evil-queen-type figure with a scythe) and sci-fi (one meaty chaingun-type affair, which does actually seem to shoot black rocks). The animation quality in the above video is absolutely amazing (watch in HQ for best results). In some anime I've seen, the characters move as little as possible to save animation, but there's no such skimping in B★RS. One sequence that stands out for me is when Miku (for lack of a confirmed name) breaks the chains she's held in. The background is wonderfully textured in a style reminiscent of the original song video, and the animation on the breaking chains is great. Another thing I really like is the now-famous blue-flaming eye, which has been wonderfully done.

All in all, I am eagerly, eagerly looking forward to the release of the anime next year, and I'll be one of the first in line (on YouTube - stupid backwater-country dweller that I am) to see it. I can't wait. What do you guys think? Of the animation quality, the concept, anything? Oh, and I'm no expert, just an information-gatherer, so if I've got anything wrong, please tell me and I'll be glad to fix it (with proper proof)!

Man, I so want this on DVD!

Heh, what's funny is I thought Black Rock Shooter is already made into an anime when I first saw everyone and their mamas having a Black Rock Shooter banner, but I was wrong. XD; Supercell is cool, though.

Hm, it does look like a cool anime that I might watch in Spring. The art style reminds me of Pandora Hearts. Probably because of the chains. :P

I actually thought so too, but I was inspired last night to look it up after running across yet another BRS banner/avi (I forget whose). I discovered an awful lot in that little research frenzy, including Vocaloid software itself, the song, the plans for the anime, and the Story of Evil series. *looks up Pandora Hearts*

I'm a big fan of Vocaloid, but I don't really know much about Black Rock Shooter. :P

To me, the art reminds me of K-ON! I'm not sure though. But it does seem like a really great animé to watch. I hope it'll last long and feature a bunch more of the other Vocaloids! I also hope it gets both dubbed and subbed. I like both dubbed and subbed animé :Db!

    It's a wikipedia article.....too many links ><

Always been a ryo fan, so I've been looking forward to this since it was announced. It's definitely nice that they made an anime based off pictures based off a song though XD The fact that this show was pretty much completely original material is also nice, especially since the art style matches the original video really nicely. definitely on my to watch list, even if it is a half-year away >>

I hope it lasts relatively short (as in 26 eps max). Also, since BRS =/= Miku, i can see the other vocaloids only appearing as cameos at best :/

You had me all nervous when I saw who the last poster was . . . >_>

Sorreh. Just trying to be helpful. >_<

How long it will be depends on the amount of material they have. I mean, I don't want it to be like Negima, where they tried to cram 100+ chapters of manga into 26 episodes. However, I also don't want it to be like Pokemon, where they spread around 40-50 episodes' worth of plot over 500+ episodes. I hate filler, but I also hate it feeling rushed. I also agree with you that the Vocaloids probably won't feature, which is a shame. I <3 Rin and Len.

Material? they have material to work off of? XD Both ways, i find it highly unlikely that they'll be able to, or want to in that case, break 26 eps

Have to say, the original music video is quite awesome and agree it's lovely the anime art style is matching the art from the video. :D

I actually think the anime might just be an OVA one, so most likely just a few (2-6 range) episodes at most. One, the anime is basing the music video (which doesn't have that much material in my humble opinion). Second, the art style is really high quality, so I assume the anime is going more for quality and not quantity, like the movie/OVA Five centimeters per second.

Well, what I'm assuming they did was take the concept from the video and expand it into a plot, probably in conjunction with ryo. That'd give them some stuff to work with.

And Bay, I'm fairly sure it was gonna be a series. But even if it was just an OVA or two, I'd still love to see it.

If it was gonna be released as an OVA, it'd be under the OVA section of MOONPHASE :p
From what i've seen though, there should be a bit more than just the Dead Master, though that'd be getting a little deep into the maybe territory (and spoilerish in those words)

Ok, I've looked it up. Ryo (and Huke) are collaborating on the project with Yutaka Yamamoto and Ordet, his animation studio. It's Ordet's first solo project.

Oh, and people on YouTube need to do some research. I've seen some really dumb comments, of course, but this one takes the cake.

Hatsune Miku was originally based off the old version/anime of BRS. Thats how it relates to her.
    . . . . *headdesk*

I've had BRS and Miku themes before, but I admit I barely know anything about the whole Vocaloid franchise. I have a friend who tried getting me into this before (last year I think) but that attempt kind of failed. However, I am planning to watch this though, the music to the pilot is quite nice.

Vocaloid is frankly amazing. I'd heard of programs like FreeSpeech, where you dictate to the computer and it turns it into text, but I'd never heard of the opposite. And it does melody, too? I've been listening to Vocaloid music almost nonstop for the past 24 hours. Try searching 'World is Mine'. Ignore the David Guetta, there's at least three different Vocaloid versions; Miku is my personal favourite.

On topic- The music is amazing, yes. I wonder if they'll use Vocaloid again for the anime or get it recorded properly? I'm thinking the latter.

Ooh, this looks quite interesting. Though being based on something Vocaloid related - my friend will not shut up when he finds out about this. He's so obsessed with Miku, it scares me XD

The artwork alone makes it worth checking out. It almost seems like something Mamoru Hosoda would have his hand in.

I'll be looking forward to seeing this.

I'm not that big of an animé fan, so I hope it does last short too! :D Really? BRS =/= Miku? I always assumed she was a counterpart or something.. But, I do hope they still show cameos of the others!

Like BRS being super duper friends with Miku and Rin ♥

I wonder if the music is really good along with the wonderful artwork! :3

Yeah, Miku is an avatar created by the Vocaloid franchise, whereas BRS is one of the songs someone made using her voice. The girl in the original video was based off Miku, as are many Vocaloid videos, but she is now a separate entity. I would love to see Rin in the anime, but I don't think that's gonna happen.

Jumping in late, but just gonna throw in the fact that yes there is material, according to the vocaloid wikia.

Who knows whether it's true or not. Wikia, and all. Not really too major of spoilers, but might as well throw them into the mix.

    Spoiler:

OMG thank you Loki! (I can't believe I didn't think to check the Vocaloid wiki u_u)
