When the ROM hacking staff closed the Simple Questions and script help thread, many members did not like that change.
It was in my, and others' opinions, extremely pointless, and actually does more damage than harm.
The old threads were great, and I don't think anyone had a problem with it. Now when you have a simple problem, you have to make a whole thread, which is extremely counterproductive.
Here are some advantages of the old threads over the beginner's lounge:

    -It was in one place
    -More "control"
-Less (or in this case, no) useless and repeat threads
-People can still find what they need (Google is a great thing)

Here's some people from an IRC that agree with me:
    [18:14] <@GoGo_HW> one place
    [18:14] <@GoGo_HW> control
    [18:14] <@GoGo_HW> less threads
    [18:15] <@GoGo_HW> less repeats
    [18:15] <@GoGo_HW> good for me
    [18:15] <@GoGo_HW> good for kk
[18:15] <Banjora> Say about "people won't search a forum if they won't even search a thread"
[18:16] <Banjora> Because they thought people would search a forum more than a thread
[18:21] <SK3> there wasn't any reason to remove that thread
[18:25] <Le> it doesnt attract more experienced people
[18:26] <Le> and the questions are not advanced and everytime i ask for help on more advanced things, no replies because they are all beginners and no help. i answer about 10 questions a day it seems and i try my best to, but when i ask for something that isnt asm or that hard, no one replies.
[19:27] <Tcoppy> is that deleting these threads
[19:27] <Tcoppy> are not helping people become better

I think many can agree with me that this is a case of "fixing something that is not broken."
Please bring the old threads back. There was no reason to remove them, and they were great.

Between this forum and PHO and romhack and IRC chat, I'd say I learned the most on PC. Not in beginner's lounge, no. Not in any forum of threads... but from trial and error and the use of two specific threads... the script help thread and simple questions thread. Learned the most from karatekid and gogo in those threads and I believe it should be used for more advanced users because beginners lounge offers to no help to people of higher knowledge. #FreeSimpleQuestions2014

When I was starting out on Pokécommunity I had the most basic question.
    https://www.pokecommunity.com/posts/7657396/
    Within 4 minutes I got a response.
As far as I'm concerned, the only reason this thread has been taken down is because people can't find the answers to their questions without having to look through nearly 400 pages. Now this doesn't have to be the case.
There's a nearly flawless way to do this, as you can see here.
That would be the QR&D, or Quick Research&Development Thread. Everytime something gets documented, the first post gets updates asap, therefore, if someone is looking for something, they have the first page full of links to the posts with the specific problem.
If for some reason someone missreads the thread, or completely ignores the rules and does not check for a solution, their comment would be deleted.
If someone can see a problem with this solution, please say so.

To add on to my point, deleting these threads are simply just not going to help people learn and grow. Yes, you can make your own thread and post a question, so can everyone else, and that might sweep your thread under the rug. If people want to learn how to rom hack, they should learn in a controlled environment. Plus on the staff's end, although you already have three moderators taking control of the emulation section, how will all of them manage to take care of a ton of "One question" threads every day. We all have lives, and having to constantly delete and possibly answer a lot of threads a day in ONE section, how are people gonna be able to have free time and I dunno, relax?

Think of the Beginner's Lounge as a Simple Questions thread, only bigger and a little more organised. Creating a thread for a question requires pretty much the same effort as posting in a thread, how is it extremely counterproductive?

I don't find the change was pointless at all, I disagree with all your "advantages" of threads as those same points can be said for the Beginner's Lounge. Everything is one section, which is much more convenient than in a thread considering the amount of questions being asked, and there is more control as every question is its own, separate thread. There will always be useless and repeated threads, as there would be posts if we had threads instead.

I also don't see how these "people of higher knowledge" do not get any help from the Lounge. Would they get help if they had posted in the Simple Questions thread? "Advanced" questions would be as often ignored, if not more, when in threads rather than in a separate section, as they could easily be left unnoticed. Such questions would not belong in Simple Questions anyway, I believe they would be much better off as threads in the Lounge or the R&D section.

As you said, it all requires the same effort, however the people seem to like the Simple Questions Thread a bit more.
Also, it's much easier for the "pro's" to help people because they can go through questions and multiquote them and whatnot super easily, because you get up to 10 questions a page, and don't need to be clicking each thread at a time (which also sucks for people with slow internet/computer like me).
Also, it's called pokecommunity, it's made entirely for the community (correct me if I'm wrong please), and the community seems to like this more.
But I don't know, maybe let the poll up for a bit more, and see what people think :).

Can you please explain why the beginner's lounge is better than a questions thread? Because to be quite frank i don't see how a massive cluster of threads is any better than one thread that all the questions and answers are on.

My opinion and explanation on this is in the post you quoted.

Wouldn't one centralized thread be more organized than several separate threads? Seperate threads are more of a hasle to keep watch on and actually add more to the database than one thread would.

I have been on this site for a long time and I remember when the scrapbox was done away with. That actually helped clean up a lot of clutter on the site. The Beginner's lounge is just another scrapbox so the ROM hacking section has regressed in that way.

I also don't see how these "people of higher knowledge" do not get any help from the Lounge. Would they get help if they had posted in the Simple Questions thread? "People of higher knowledge" while not needing to ask questions could answer them instead. Why inconvenience someone to have to check a bunch of different threads? I remember people like HackMew were always willing to answer questions in the simple questions thread and liked it because it was more organized.

Honestly I dont see any proof. I see attempted equations. Nothing you said proved that the beginner's lounge is better than a questions thread.

I don't see any "proof" for how a questions thread is better than the Beginner's Lounge either. I'm just stating my opinion and the reason the ROM hacking staff decided on this change.

I agree that the script help and simple questions should be brought back. I recently got into ROM hacking and was unaware the beginners lounge existed, because when you google something related to a script, a post with only a few viewers doesnt show up, while the script help thread, with lots and lots of viewers and such, does.

There obviously can not be proof if we're talking opinions, however, here's a post I made half an hour ago, just in case you missed it ;) https://www.pokecommunity.com/posts/8430833/

Back in the day when said threads existed, I had them subscribed. AS SOON AS SOMEONE POSTED I'd reply to them. Ask almost anyone here, karatekid and I were the known people to go to for help. Questions regarding asm or "hard stuff" was and will be answered by me. Easy to do. I personally almost never used the threads myself, but I did get replies if I didn't have anyone else to go to. I met some great people just from the threads, and almost everyone here knows that. I even got a helper award from the threads. Please bring them back, it's the best decision. I'd never ignore anybody on purpose. It's better this way.

I'm sorry, how are you a moderator? From what it is sounding like, this is no community. Only a forum where the moderators do whatever they want and disregard the members in any way. First of all you're mocking me with your hashtag stuff which is really unprofessional. Do you not realize you're defending an idea that you and two others liked over all of the romhackers that have seen and voted for this? Pretty sure you're dating hashtag anyways or something so you guys will agree on anything. It's like 20 to 1 right now, and you're probably the only No vote. The forums are supposed to be easy for the user to use and you're making it harder. That's what we're telling you. It's harder for us to use it because you think it's more organized and you're sticking to it. You're not caring what anyone is saying because you keep saying that beginner's lounge is what you want and what you think is best. Gogo and karatekid were the two most supportive members with answering back in the day, now that it's not centralized and easy to subscribe and do, no one wants to click on threads with titles like "OMG HALPPP ME GUYSZZZ" or "lol guys i have an idea" like seriously? Why waste time with that... plus some titles just don't help the task that's at hand. Sometimes you need to look at the problem rather than trying to figure out a cute thread title to draw in hackers. It's stupid, but if you want the forum I think everyone here can agree that they wouldn't care if you kept it. Just give the hackers back their two threads and be on with yourself. Or don't, and slowly push away the hacker until we all just merge onto PHO. It's bound to happen if you continue with your power couple with #hashtag in rejecting any ideas that are clearly better than what you have right now.

Well, you see, having a singular thread over a bunch of them, is a vast difference, if you couldn't already tell. It wouldn't exaclty be so disorganized :| Besides, the Beginner's Lounge is disorganized as it is. The only thing that differenates "Help" questions from "Ideas" are prefixes. Prefixes alone cannot justify the organization of a subforum of all things. A cluttered subforum is still a cluttered subforum, no matter how much you advertise it as a "better alternative". Sure the same thing can be said about the Simple Questions thread, but it was a better way to not only discuss help needed(since if you didn't know, you get a notification if you are quoted, probably is why you are viewing this currently), but it was a better way to interact with the community. Like it or not, it was probably better to have full communication with other ROM Hackers, when you needed help. In other words, it felt like we were on a forum called Pokécommunity(well how bout that :o)

I had so many threads left unawsered because it was at a "higher level". If you simply had that on a thread, then the problem could quickly be addressed. Sure it isn't indexed or whatever, but Help doesn't need to be organized. You get your information you were looking for, remember it and leave. It isn't something deserving of an entire thread, where it will as quickly die off, as it is created. And I don't buy that "pro's" will not get answers if they posted something. Hackers, despite other people's opinions may say, have something they hate doing. And what so happen that someone else, more advaned in that field of hacking can give them an upperhand.

If you are really going to be unprofessional and deny our opinions, at least go the extra mile to improve the Beginner's Lounge. Obviously it doesn't work for everyone. So how about be a better Moderator and try to improve upon it, so that everyone is happy, while as removing some clutter and confusion with the Beginner's Lounge. Maybe make Ideas, a ROM Hacking HUB only, Idk do something to fix it. Undermining other's ideas on a certain feature, because it isn't in the best interest of you, should NEVER EVER come over the community itself. The whole purpose was to help people in the best and easiest ways, while explaining a concept throughly, not to help people in the best and easiest ways that satisifies you. So try and listen for once, and the hashtags were unnesscary,

Let me remind you both that it's one thing to argue your case, and it's another to be rude and condescending. Right now you're being the latter.

So try and listen for once, and the hashtags were unnesscary,

I'm in no way, shape, or form getting involved with this ROM discussion as I have no business delving in something that I have very little knowledge in. However, in Christos' defense - and he can either support or refute this, this is just my observation - the hashtags of #beginnerslounge and #hashtag were both made in response to the user above who responded with #FreeSimpleQuestions2014. If you're going to blame someone, you might as well blame the instigator as well. And even after reading Christos' post with the hashtags, they seem fairly harmless as the post's discussion is about the Beginner's Lounge and he jokingly put #hashtag at the end to complement it.

If there's more to these hashtags, please let me know because honestly I don't see how that was an issue as they actually do fit the context; otherwise, it just sounds like your nitpicking at something that is completely different than the issue at hand in order to further undermine the credibility of him.

Well if it means anything to anyone, I will apologize for wasting anyone's time here. I realize that my post can come off as childish. So I'll let by gones be by gones before it blows up to a huge thing. But as for the suggestion. I would like to see the Simple Questions return as well as the Script Help thread. But that is all I have left to say about it.

You're not wasting your time, don't think like that. What Lance is referring to is the fact that there are proper ways in which to word responses. There are plenty of ways in which one can word an argument or debate without verbally attacking the other person or being sassy about it, which was the impression I personally got when reading your post.

Yes, things can get heated on this site from time to time. But know that we're all just working together in an effort to better the site in the end. Whether you and I or you and Christos or anyone else for that matter meets eye to eye, it really doesn't matter; the thing that does matter though is that we all keep a level head on the matter and not let our posts get so emotionally driven that it inevitably ruins the credibility of the argument. It's not that you didn't have points to be made - rather, it was just worded incorrectly, if that makes sense.

It's not the hashtags, it's the fact that as a moderator she's condescending us and mocking me which Lance is trying to say we are doing to her. That's not the point, most of the hackers in the romhacking section will agree that karatekid552 is the only fair moderator right now. Hashtag is rude, insensitive, and many people are constantly complaining about how he acts as a moderator and a few have decided to quit logging into PC altogether because of it. Why do you think this thread is in this section and not in the major forum for Romhacking? We all knew that christos and hashtag would just put this thread on the back-burner and just ignore it altogether. At what point will the mods do something about what the users want? Especially when those users are the ones that fished out $25 just to get treated without care. Some of the people who want this are long-standing good members of PC dating back years and yet it's like no one wants to even take any of this into consideration. How about as moderators instead of complaining that there is no evidence that your choice is better or trying to defend your reasons for having made the changes, realize that a lot if not all of the hackers want those threads back and think your sudden and unannounced changes were not so good at all. Yeah this is a forum and you could put dickbutt on the front page if you wanted to, but if you want to keep your members you have to act like you care and by disregarding what we want, you're just making it worse. All it takes is two threads, are you kidding me? Is that so hard to ask for. They also need to be created by someone who has been an active member for awhile and is willing to continuously update the thread mainpages so that there is a nice archive of information much like Spherical Ice did with the Quick Resources thread here: LINK. Of course that idea got shot out of the water too and the mods took no notice to it. Is anyone going to act like they care about their members' opinions and bring back the features that we want?
