Across all the games you've played, has anyone always had to have a certain type/pokemon in your party?
I.E your starter pokemon? Or a type?
    Not counting HM slaves, mind.

I've only played White, White 2 and Black 2, and I've always had at least two Water types: Seismitoad and Carracosta (W), Samurott and Starmie (W2) and Swanna and Jellicent (B2). I also have an Emerald nuzlocke, where I also use all the Water types I find, right now I have Gyarados and Sharpedo in my team, and the last Pokemon I caught was Spheal.

Ground, Psychic, Bug, Fire, and Electric. I must! I know those are a lot of types, but that's just how I roll.

I have a fire type on almost all games because it has a large proportion of the pokemon I like. The only time I don't use them is on R/S/E if I pick Mudkip over Torchic because there aren't any decent fire types in the wild in that gen.

Flying types are usually a must for their ability to you know fly me places, but I also like the opening route bird in most regions so I use it in my team based on preference as well. This wasn't the case in B2 though because Unfezant looks horrible.

I HAVE to have a Fire type. If for some reason I can't have one (like in a challenge), someone needs to know Flamethrower. It's my favorite move. Fire Punch, Fire Fang, or any other good Fire move will suffice though. Hell, even Hidden Power Fire. I'm not a pyromaniac, I promise. XD

I'm also not too keen on having more than one Water type. I have nothing against Water types, but there are just SO many and so many HMs for them...idk, I just don't like having more than one. But Water is another essential type that I need, just second to Fire.

Yeah, always a water-type. Occassionally I don't have a flying-type in my party, just teach a boxed pokémon Fly. And one runthrough of Emerald I got by for quite a bit without a water-type by teaching Hariyama Surf :)
I often have a dragon-type due to liking them so much, except in HeartGold where I usually cba to train one (had Kingdra once, that was it). My current playthrough of Emerald is probably the only time I haven't used Salamence or Altaria. Mainly due to knowing right from the start that I would capture and EV train Latios.
Unlike Sydian I don't mind having two water-types provided at least once is dual-typed in a way that removes a weakness to electric/grass. The best occurrence of this is in Emerald - Swampert and Ludicolo. Neither are weak to electric, and Ludicolo hits the grass-types super-effectively. Lanturn and Feraligatr are another combo I've used (Hg).

I always have to have at least 1 Water, 1 fighting, and 1 Normal type -
The rest can change at times. In every different game I try and give a Pokemon (regardless of type) I have not used before a try - and try to form a team around it (the last 2 Pokemon)

In my Black 2 (as an example) - my favorite Pokemon is water type, make that my top 2 favorites are water types and I have them in my team (Dewott & Floatzel) - I have my fighting type, Mienshao - my normal type is Watchog (knows attacks from 4 different types dark/physic/ice/normal) - I also have grass type (Leafeon) - & Emolga as my electric/flying type (it knows 3 electric types and Acrobatics, flying type move)

I always carry a Grass/Fire/Water trio on my team, with the starter taking up one of the three types. Also, a Flying-type is mandatory cos I need a Fly user.

don't even try to get me to do a general run-through without a fighting and a steel type (LUCARIO COVERS BOTH OF THESE AND THATS WHY YOU SHOULD RESPECT HIM FOR THE GIANT PILE OF AWESOME THAT HE IS). I'm dying here on my ghost monotype :(

There are a few species (mostly Grass types) that I've gone out of my way to breed, so my next avatar can get eggs for the same one. Other than the Grass-type bias, I always try to include a Skarmory as my "flying tank" combatant...and a Teddiursa (who gets dibs on the first Everstone!) because I love teddies in real life. :)

I always need to have a Fire and Water type Pokemon on my team, but I don't feel quite the same way about Grass. Another thing I always need is a Pokemon that can learn Psychic type moves, even if it isn't a Psychic Pokemon itself (for example, my current White 2 team has no Psychic types, but a Butterfree with Dream Eater and a Ninetales with Psyshock).

I always have a grass and flying in my team. My Snivy was quickly swapped out for my Petalil/Lilligant later though (to be honest I didn't like the "starters"). The others I usually change around. It all depends on their looks..
