Yeah, my mom had an HP computer that lasted for years. It was good quality. Now, like you said, they are getting worse.
Dell is starting to get pretty bad, too. I haven't had any actual problems with them, but my old high school is now no longer buying from Dell because they have had way too many problems with them. They've had many computers that were recalled in which the motherboard would burn out (I don't know how many of those things I had to look at...it was annoying).
They are starting to go with Lenovo more now. They were beginning to get more while I was still there. The laptop I have is also a Lenovo, and it has been great so far.

I actually like the way the Lenovos look. I don't know why, though.
It's funny, the Dell laptop that I have has been great so far, but all other Dells I see have been terrible. That laptop went through a lot, too.
Since probably sometime around 2005 or 2006, all of the HPs I have seen and used have been terrible. I haven't seen a good one to date. Even my friend's HP tablet is a piece of crap.

You can use tablets to draw stuff if you got something like Photoshop, right?

I'm still looking into everything about this stuff. Uncharted territory for me.

Tablets can be used for a lot of things. They make writing easier, so they'd be perfect for graphics. What I need one for is taking notes in classes...and whatever the Engineering school decides to use them for.

Now that I got all this time off and my unemployment benefits have started to come in, I want to do some drawing like I did back when I was in high school. I've seen what some people here can do, mostly Signomi's work.

I do believe I've seen a few tablets for under $100 at Amazon.com, but anything Photoshop IS WAY OUT of my priceline.

I love my tablet. :D
Wacom Intuos 9 x 12, awesome, and very useful for art and graphics. :D
You don't necessarily need photoshop to use a tablet. You can use opencanvas, suki, tegaki, oekaki, if you're going to use it for art, or you can just use your tablet as a mouse. [/I do that sometimes]. And you can use it in MS Paint too, to make the lazy style of pixel art. xD

Taking notes on a tablet...? That's like the same thing as taking notes on paper though. o_o;

I have no idea why exactly we need the tablets Taking notes on a tablet would be easier to keep organized, though. I think we need them for certain engineering software, but I could be wrong.

I know I don't need Photoshop to do stuff like that. That's why I'm looking around at all the options.

I just got NASCAR Racing 2003 for my PC and I want to start painting all kinds of cool cars and stuff.

Oooh you lucky girl, I've always wanted that tablet. XD; Mine's a Wacom Volito2, got it fairly cheap from my local computer superstore and all I do is just replace the pen every now and then. But yeah, tablets can make CG art SO much easier to make, though I can recall not doing as much pixel art as I used to since I did get my tablet. Guess that's one area where I'd most rather use a mouse.

I am also interested in getting a tablet, but I know the best ones are way out of my price range. I'm still going to search around to find something that's really good, but won't break the bank when I get it.

I'm glad my unemployment has finally started to come in. ^^

My teacher was talking about buying tablets for the graphics design class. I really wish the request is approved so I can finally learn how to use one of those things.

That would be pretty cool. They aren't really that difficult to use, it just could take you a moment or s to get used to it. Hopefully, that will be approved.

I wish I could learn how to use those. But of course I need to learn how to draw. Which I don't at this point. But those are pretty cool to have. I was wondering how digital artists get their work out there. It is pretty neat. ^^

I want tablets for my art class, but nooooooo. We have to use crappy mouses. D:<

Oh I have a tablet too. :3 Not sure what model it is, but it's a pretty cheap one. XD; I just saw it one day and was like "Hey.. That's pretty cool, maybe I can use that for drawing." But it works fine really, no problems at all.

But sadly, my computer isn't the best, and because of lag, I don't get to draw on my tablet often. Though I do a little, but the lineart of my work is as far as I get. I've tried colouring, but it doesn't seem right to me. XD; I guess because I have high expectations of myself, and don't expect my work to be craptacular. Though since I'm just learning, my first works won't be the best. :x But well, I don't know how to get that idea into my head, unfortunately.

I've always wanted a those laptops where the screen was the actual tablet itself. :D! Though they're around $3000 or something. If I saved up enough I could get one, but knowing me, I'm rather impatient and get the cheapest thing first. XD;

Dang...I was looking at Dell's Web site (since Dell and HP are the only actual recommended brands), and the tablet that will work for the engineering school is almost $2,000! I have no idea how I can afford that. I'm glad I won't be entering the engineering school at the start of next semester. Maybe I'll somehow be able to afford it soon.

I think it'll be fun to mess around with, though. I may not be very good at drawing or anything, but it could be fun to just draw for the heck of it again. I used to do that all of the time. (Now, I need all of the extra paper I have...plus I don't want others seeing them.)

I have a laptop where the screen is a taplet. I love it. It's fun to play with :3I keep meaning to do more with it, but never get around to it. XD;

Must be fun when people make threads about changing the slogan. They'd be in such high spirits, thinking that their idea was really awesome, and that they'd be popular/famous for thinking of a new slogan for PC.

lol.
