Laptops. I was planning on buying myself a laptop 2 years ago, but I ended up with this Vista computer due to crap that spun out of my control.

Well well, seems I missed quite the show in the VIP section? I think some of us have forgotten what this forum is for, or did any of us even know? So basically, what I seen made was pretty much 3 DCC's which led to being closed, you'd think after the first the idea would have gotten across. Sure guys, the section needs activity but this isn't the way in which it's going to happen. Why not trying to make the current threads we have here active rather than just making stuff we know will encourage spam? Sure, it's nice to have some place away from the main sections where we can go and the rules are slightly more relaxed but, this section isn't just a post count +1 board.

So rather than making silly threads, why not pull together and try to think of something that's more innovative than a VIP TCTI or threads with absolutely no definitave topic at all. Maybe I'm not the one who's going to step out make some threads which would define the VIP forum but really all we have now is a DCC and some threads about supporting and more or less what we have elsewhere. Maybe we should start something productive with the section, it's a haven we can call our own yet there are boundries of course, but why not start up some competitions for example? Some contests? It'd be much easier to manage them too seeing as in we have supporters and staff only without thousands of other members to smother them.

Take advantage of what we have yes, but let's not just be hasty and make threads just to increase post count, we have a DCC for that where it's perfectly fine to do as long as we have a topic etc. So yeah, I'm trying to start up a little topic of how we can actually do something and in the mean time just throwing some opinions out.

As of this moment though, I'm focused on getting an hp laptop. From personal experience, my hp desktop has suffered multiple viruses and a motherboard burn and it still wouldn't give up. I'm so impressed with the durability of this thing(which lasted over 8 years or so) that I might as well be a good ol' fan of hp and get myself a laptop of that brand.
ehhhhhhhghhh...

:/ How old is your computer? Pre-2007? 'Cause I got an HP laptop in summer '07 after I heard from all my friends who owned one that it was the most reliable company but I guess I jumped in right after they fell into the cheap crowed. The reason their computers are so cheap is because they use such cheap parts and still mark them up. I had nothing but issues with my laptop after I got it and same with everyone I know who got an HP around that time. D: I have no idea if they've gotten any better (though I assume not since someone I know who got an HP last year already has a new computer) but... I cannot in good conscience ever suggest them to someone again. XD;

That was an issue with a faulty chipset at the time, I've been told, when citing their high laptop failure rates. So they've probably fixed whatever the problem was.

Oooh, thunderstorm, lucky you! n_n
That's more difficult to fix, especially if it's an issue with how the chipset was manufactured, since it's something that is embedded onto the motherboard during its assembly.
I don't even remember what the issue I had with my first repair was but I'm pretty sure they had to replace the motherboard. Maybe not though. :/ Guess even if they did know something was wrong they wouldn't have fixed it anyway because I juuuust squeaked in before the warranty expired. Oh well. That laptop makes a decent paperweight now so I try not to think about it. XD;

I know a lot of people who've been happy with Acer lately but the winner is probably Dell. I've never had one and used to hear nothing but horror stories about them but I know a looot of people who've gotten them in the last year or two and love them. o_O

Well, they may have replaced it with another of the faulty motherboards... that problem kinda plagued them for a good year while they shifted away from that chipset.

So hp is sorta out of the question, so what kind of laptops should I go for? D:

Not necessarily. Though ASUS is a good brand with value for your money (cheap, too), and Toshiba's okay, I've heard. Dell's laptops aren't all that bad, either, now.

Guys I had a PC dream involving Ausaudriel blowing up to bits. Read blog. :D

Hmm...I guess Acer really isn't that bad but....I don't know about Dell and thats because my school has some really ugly Dell computers. x_x I didn't like the design at all, but whatever. They just looked really archaic.

What's ASUS? I haven't heard of those before. D:

Well, those may have been older Dells. Plus what matters most is functionality if you're going to be putting out $400 for one, right?

ASUS makes those Eee PC netbooks, and their full-size laptops aren't too shabby, either.

I have an ASUS Eee PC 1005HA, the best netbook I've ever had the joy of using.

For what it's worth, the Dell laptop that I got as a present for my high school graduation (back in 2005) is still in perfect working condition, just needs to be reformatted again. XD

I'm using it right now. :P

I've been told that they're top-quality by many people. And it doesn't surprise me, since like I said above, ASUS does have high-quality motherboards.
Indeed. It just works, it's affordable, an all-around good buy.

I don't have experience with their larger laptops, but their netbooks sure do win.

I have a durabook. It's about 4 years old now. I don't use it all too often, so I don't feel a need to get a new one for quite awhile

I think I've just found the laptop of my dreams. Thank you Beachy and Don for ever mentioning the ASUS brand.

Thank goodness my birthday is coming up soon. ;___;

No problem. I try to make sure that the good brands get what they deserve, and that the poor brands take notice and try to up their quality.

what the heck this thread is still talking about laptops? XD
