Well in vB4, I'm pretty sure they can remove that side menu on the home screen from the ACP (vB shouldn't be dictating that on us), plus seeing as how there are gaps between each major block on the screen and gaps between the text floating on either side of the screen, skinning shouldn't be that hard considering they can increase/decrease the width, change the color scheme, and add a banner with any proportions they feel fit, and add a background design/image...

That's just about what we have in vB3 and I doubt vB would prevent us from source-editing the html >_> That would be the biggest mistake of their lives.

EDIT: Just as a quick example, considering the more than likely possibility that html editing is a feature, we could, for example, change the 'username/password/log in' block and make it more similar to the current one. All they'd do is move the password parameter area to a new line and change how the 'text-input' boxes looked, and the 'log in' button, and s'all good.

There's only one vB4 forum that looks good, and it's Friendcodes. They only have one skin right now and some templates are broken due to the upgrade last November, but they don't look tacky or or awkward like most vB4 boards.

But they skin when they want to, so it's a matter of if they would ever want to skin for vB4. Not like anyone is paid to skin lmao.

Our skinners are higher staff, I doubt they'd willingly convert to anything if they weren't willing to skin haha.

I hope my logic is correct, vB defaults suck so bad I can't even...

Not all of them! I know some non-staff and some ex-staff make skins now, as well as some normal moderators.

vBulletin 4 skinning is so much more complicated than vBulletin 3. Especially template edits, because they use SO many hooks (and most of them are in a completely different format compared to vBulletin 3 hooks) where you wouldn't really see the point of having a hook there, whereas vBulletin 3 is predominantly straight-up HTML. I have both a copy of vBulletin 3 and vBulletin 4 installed on my site. vBulletin 4 for my school stuff, and vBulletin 3 for actual developing of PC styles, and I'm looking at a template right now for vBulletin 4 and can't understand a large portion of it, what it does, etc. even though I know the point of it and what it does on vBulletin 3. I can't... really explain it, but vBulletin 4 is just much more complicated compared to vBulletin 3 skinning.

I've read vBulletin 5 will be even more complicated, unfortunately, but I doubt anyone will upgrade to it anyway. It doesn't seem all that different from vB4 in terms of what it offers, and it looks a lot like Xenforo, which sucks.

I thought vB4 was supposed to be 'easier' than vB3, but we all see how that turned out.

The front end of it isn't that confusing to me. In fact, I kind of prefer !some of it to vBulletin 3. Profiles are really ugly, though...

Not everything about vb4 is bad tho.

The Activity Stream feature is awesome for ultimate stalkiiing! :3 The groups feature too could replace your Clubs forum, and is way more dedicated in the Clubs sense.

And if you aren't lazy, vb4, is waaay more customizable than vb3. It's just harder, but you get to reap better benefits.

Oh, sounds snazzy :3

The only problem is whether or not the staff would be willing to go through all that trouble every time they want to make a new theme. I mean, I wouldn't blame them if they didn't lol...

There are plenty of reasons they don't want to upgrade, it's not just because it's "ugly", buuuut that's probably one of them. XD; If you were really serious about wanting them to upgrade to vB4, you should ask one of the admins they're reasoning. I know they've said before, but I don't remember whether it was via a thread post, or a blog entry, so I can't track it down.
