Contest Vs Showcase !

So , What do you like ? Contest or Showcase.
I prefer Contest for various reason such as--

--Its not Gender oriented so anyone can participate.

--Its has battles .

--Its just as or more thrilling then Ash's badge quest.

Writer are trying to add baking , quiz and anything related to girls to make Showcase interesting but its not working.
The Only reason anyone would like Showcase it for Serena Fanservice .

While Showcases may be flashy with those additional challenges and allowing all your Pokemon to perform with you, I still had to vote for Contests for pretty much the same reasons as Famon stated, such as being gender-neutral and actually having battles, and definitely being more fun to watch than Gym Battles. At least both competitions allow the trainer to wear very fancy outfits.

At least , Contest is worth watching unlike Showcase !
Showcase doesn't even feel like a competition , it feels more like Fanservice.
Honestly , I hope this is the last series with Pokemon Showcase.
I rather prefer contest to be back over another Showcase.
Truthfully , I rather prefer Ash competing in Contest as a better Post-league ark over another Battle Frontier .

I agree. Ash has always been oblivious to romance (except for that one instance in School of Hard Knocks) and even though he has gotten more mature in XY than in previous seasons, I still can't picture him falling in love.

Anyway, back on topic; I like contests better because of the battles and I find the appeal rounds fun to watch. Since OR/AS made contests relevant again, does anyone else think they could come back in the anime after the Kalos league saga has ended?

It could be possible, but it'll mainly depend on if the 7th Gen region has Contests or not. Both Unova and Kalos didn't have Contests in-game so the main female in those sagas had to do a different goal, and given Serena was based on a main female in-game protagonist like May and Dawn (plus Serena's haircut and outfit change was likely based on the in-game trainer customization), the writers wanted to have her probably have a Contest-like goal as well and I guess that's where the Showcases were created.

I hope they bring Contests back! That would be great as it really allowed for a much different point of view when it comes to battling. Showcases are cool and pretty and all but lack the excitement and appeal of the Contests in my eyes. A Contest comeback would be a real plus, imo, for the game developers and anime producers to do.

Actually , There is various reason for Contest to be more thrilling then Gym-Battle--

--- Contest take place in area filled with audience and TV-camera So people can see May & Dawn's skill ! Which make it exciting . But most Gym-Battle are indoor so people are unaware of it even if Ash win the greatest double battle in history .

--- Contest opponent are totally Random ! You can't tell who going to be May/Dawn's next opponent and their pokemon .
However , We already know who going to be Next Gym-leader for Ash to beat and his main type & pokemon.
Its pretty much spoiled for anyone who has Nintendo 3DS or Internet !
Honestly , I enjoyed Gym-battle when I didn't played the game or had no access to Internet.

--- We don't know if May/Dawn going to get the ribbon , They might lose as well ! However thats not the case with Ash since he will get the Badge regardless win or lose.

--- Contest is one time only deal , You can't compete in the same contest twice! However , Ash can challenge a Gym as many time as he wants .

--- Gym-Battle is too One-sided ! Win or lose , Its all matters to Ash ! The Gym-leader doesn't have any real reason or desire to win the battle , his job is simply test trainer So they will not gain anything from wining the battle
However , Contest are duel-sided because both May/Dawn and her opponent has something to win or lose .

Truth is , Contest is sporty then Gym-battle ! Sometime I wish Ash to be Coordinator in a Post-league ark , Atleast that would be better then another Battle frontier ark .

Famon this might be the first thing we agreed on the old gym battles were much better than today's gym battle I think 20% of that is that Pikachu is OP I swear that things ready to take on Arceus Pikachu is just a example of pure power if he was this strong in the first movie Mew-Two would be dead buried 1000 feet under rubble Also I agree that they choose Ash not the Gym Battles I think it would be cool if each gym had like some sorta twist like the electric Gym has these Towers that shock Pokemon but power-up Electric Pokemon that would be a Good Idea.

I really enjoyed the contests, whereas the showcases are just meh. The first time I saw them I thought it was pretty a pretty cool idea but I didn't have me on the edge of my seat as some of the battles May and Dawn had during the contests. I feel like Contests are more relatable to other regions as well, where The Showcases are more of a Kalos thing.

The lack of battling is literally the biggest complaint directed at the Showcases. I mean, it's not bad by any means, but I feel like it was a last-ditch attempt by the writers to give the main female a goal because contests didn't exist in the corresponding games.

Looks like everyone picked contest for the poll. Anyway I picked contest because it was more enjoying. Showcase wasn't really all that fun or anything. It kind of bored me a little.

The main reason why Showcases got no votes or are being viewed as "boring" is mainly due to the lack of battling, and people here love battles which the contests do have.

Showcases do at least allow a Trainer to have up to 6 Pokemon performing during the Free Performance round, so you can utilize your entire team in that case whereas Contests only allow the use of one Pokemon every round, or two in the case of a Double Performance, like some of Sinnoh's Contests.

I like Contests more. It allowed the characters to show how much they improved with their battling skills and I like the appeals because it allows for nice animation.

I don't like Showcases because they are not only boring, but also sends a horrible message as well. It enforces that girls shouldn't be battling when they hit the road. It enforces the social expectation that girls should be worried about appearance and what they wear, and that physical appearance is a priority, instead of letting them have the freedom to decide what they want to do with their lives. Showcases shows that society should force girls to strive and compete for impossible standards of beauty. (Sorry for getting really serious, I just have a strong opinion on Showcases.)

Let's just say that Ash gets ressetted at the beginning of each gen. Basically, Ramos would be Ash's 3rd Gym Battle.

Also in AG/DP Ash didn't have a situation where he was left at 1 vs 2 with his remaining Pokemon having a type disadvantage and still winning iirc. Thing is contests are just on surface more popular, as gym battles have higher ratings.

Not to mention Ash's Greninja would solo May/Dawn without PIS.

I'm in the minority here but I actually like them about the same to be honest. While I did like most of the battles in contests, it didn't have that variety factor in my opinion (there are exceptions of course) whereas showcases have baking, quizzes, etc. I also got pretty bored of contests when DP rolled around. If there is one thing I dislike about showcases however, it would be the voting system. The judges in contests weren't all that interesting to me, they at least would sometimes say the flaws of the trainer's performance rather than a bunch of fans voting for their favorite person.
