I was thinking about controllers as I tracked my package for my Wii classic controller I ordered, lol. Anyway, what is your favorite controller? And what's your least favorite controller?

My favorite is definitely the GameCube controller. It fits right in my hands, the design is nice, and of course, the control is nice. The analog stick is really nice and not too finicky like the N64's can be. My least favorite...I don't know if I really have one.

I'm going to start with my least favorite: the N64. Now, maybe the controller works well if you know it, but having not grown up with one, it feels like the most awkward piece of technology I have ever held, and I once had a Dreamcast. It seems like the sign of a good controller should be an intuitive design, but here is jack shit intuitive about the N64 controller's layout! Every time I had to pick up and play one at my friend's house was a challenge, which is not what you want from a controller.

I honestly think that the Xbox 360 has the best designed controller out there. The triggers to me feel more natural than the bumpers of the older Playstation controllers, especially for FPS games, and Sony even followed suit with the PS3 controller. The more compact design is much easier to hold than the Xbox counterpart. And best of all I can use it to play games on my PC, like The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth!

Honorable Mentions for the Dreamcast Controller with its weird VMU memory cards that you could play mini games on.

Oh, the Gamecube Controllers are definitely my favourite too:

Because the general design is really cool, its just as simple as it, and even as a kid, you'd see how the buttons stand out so it'll be easy to understand. Also, it's generally really easy to use, which I really appreciate because I for one can't really stand controllers that have like buttons and then side buttons, as well as buttons on top of buttons, haha. I'm so glad that they added an adapter for the Wii U version because it makes playing Super Smash Bros. and a couple of other games SO much easier to use. Unfortunately they ARE pretty rare these days, so, you'd have to be generally lucky to find one, agh.

By the far the worst controller that I have ever gotten my hands on is the wireless controller for the Phillips cdi:

First of all.. is this a controller or a TV remote? Well, yeah, the Wii's controller looks pretty much like a TV remote too, but at least the Wii simulates it's video game system as sort of like a TV Channel, and plus, it's pretty easy to use and understand too. But this controller.. look at it; you have the joystick RIGHT next to the buttons which makes playing with this a pain because it's really uncomfortable to try pressing any buttons while using the joystick. its like you have to use two hands even though it's clustered together.. which is downright silly.

It doesn't really look all that appealing either. Sure, it's a pretty old game controller design but, it came as late as 1991, which was around the SNES came along and it's controller looked soo much better, imo.

I absolutely adore the Wii U's gamepad as a controller. I have finally found a system that caters for my horribly long fingers. That's not even mentioning that I can rest on bother the triggers and shoulders. The only problem is that people look at me funny when I say I'm in love with it.

By far the worst that I've used is the XBox family's controllers. I can get maybe 20 minutes of gameplay before I have to stop because I hands ache. They're so horribly small, I can't do anything with them.

Sony and Microsoft really need to get their act together, because Nintendo have had the most amazing controllers from the GameCube and beyond - comfort is everything for gaming, and so far only Nintendo has been able to meet my awkward tastes.

Whilst not technically a controller, nothing with never beat the ol' mouse and keyboard - configurability and precision are wonderful things. Also, grid-based games are horrible on controllers; takes forever to do anything.

Fun fact, the Phillips CDI was never intended to be a Gaming console. If you've ever played one, then you can probably see why.

Anywho, I really don't think that I have a favorite or least favorite controller to be honest. I've just never used a controller that I really loved or hated.

Favorite controllers include the Gamecube controller, the Wii U Pro Controller, and the PS3 Dual Shock 3.

Least favorite would probably be the Wii Remote sideways.

I really like the GamePad for the Wii U. It's quite comfortable despite its size. GameCube controller as well. :) Also gotta love the classics, the SNES controller is a personal favorite of mine, haha.

I dislike Playstation controllers...they never fit well in my hands and I feel a bit awkward with them (PS2/PS1). I haven't played with a 3/4 yet so I don't know how those feel.

    3rd or 4th thread? =D

Dualshock 4. That feeling of holding it is irresistible.

Okay, triggers... but... it has a freaking weird position of left stick and d-pad. Why no one mentions anything about that? =D

(Guess my least favorite is pretty obvious from this, right?)

So I take you also don't like the Gamecube and Wii U Pro controllers either?

I can't say much about them as I haven't tried them.
But since you mentioned them I presume they have xbox-like position of the left stick and d-pad?
If so, yea, I probably wouldn't like them either.

Uh, the 3DS uses the exact same layout for the left side too lol. I always thought having the left stick higher was better because you know, it's usually the main movement control.

My favorite controller is Gamecube, and I didn't hate N64 at all!! I like the xbox controller too.

My least favorite is the wiimote... it look almost like the NES controller.

Never really been a big fan of the Xbox controllers. The original one was ludicrously bulky and the revision that Microsoft rushed out wasn't much better. The 360's controller was a improvement in many ways, but the D-Pad is literally pure evil. It sucks; no tacktile feedback and is very slippery. I haven't used the One's controller but the D-pad seems much improved, but I still don't like it's offset configuration.

And while it's a stretch to call it a controller as it's embedded into the system, the OG 3DS had a uncomfortable design, a clicky, flacky D-pad and tiny, irksome buttons. It's L and R keys were wobbly and annoying to use. The lack of second circle pad is really stupid as well (thankfully the new 3DS fixes this with the surprisingly useful C stick).

My favourite controller ever is probably the Logitech F310/F710. While they both had some irritating reliability options, they have the best D-pad on any system. Everything else is excellent as well. The triggers are well placed and the shoulder buttons are comfy. The analogue sticks also have a good amount of grip to them. The F710 is definatly the better of the two (it's wireless, has a rubber grip and has vibration support) but the F310 is a great Xbox 360 controller alternative for PC gaming.

The Wii Classic Controller (not the classic controller pro, the older one shaped like a SNES controller) is also a excellent controller. While it's awkward to daisy-chain it to a Wiimote, the controller is quite small yet somehow very easy to use. The analogue stick are just perfect and shoulder buttons are surprisingly well implemented. Considering I only got it for a fiver from GAME a few years ago on sale, it's defiantly proven to be worth the money.

I totally forgot about the Phillips CDi, so I guess I do have a least favorite controller, haha. My grandmother actually had one of those abominations at her house when I was a kid. We had some kind of jukebox coloring game for it that wasn't too terrible if you're a kid, so I didn't mind it, but I remember wondering how a remote was supposed to be a video game controller.

I really like the GamePad for the Wii U. It's quite comfortable despite its size. GameCube controller as well. :) Also gotta love the classics, the SNES controller is a personal favorite of mine, haha.

I love the GamePad. I was skeptical at first after the Wii U's release, but when I tried it out at GameStop, I was surprised at how comfortable it really was. It was magical. I knew I had to have one right then and there, haha.

My PS2 controller sticks a lot, now that you mention it. Sometimes I'll be playing a game and my character will start walking without me even touching the joystick. I have to mess around with it a bit to unstick it before I can ACTUALLY play my game. lol

My favorite controler to date would have to be the Playstation One controller (which carried over to other generations, I know)

My least favorite has to be the Wii-U gamepad. I don't know if it's because I have small hands, or what, but I can't ever seem to hold it or do anything confortably

Because it's not weird. It's the optimal position. The analog stick is used much more in 3D games, which are the majority. The only reason the new Dualshocks aren't like that yet is because Sony is stubborn.

I personally don't see anything special about the Dualshock, because the concept of it is basically just Sony adding things on top of what is basically a SNES controller. They'll run out of things to cram into it at some point. At least Microsoft tried to copy incorporate things from other designs, like the Dreamcast and the Gamecube controllers.

The GameCube controller is the most ergonomic controller in my opinion. The middle fingers rest nicely along the curvature of the backside, while the index fingers rest nicely on the concave trigger buttons. It just feels right. I also like that the A, B, X, & Y buttons are off-center, close together, and different in size, which makes it convenient for people to slide their thumb from A to B, A to X, or A to Y when having to perform some sort of immediate action.

My favorite controller is definitely the Xbox 360, for all of the reasons that Wilhelm gave. But my least favorite would probably be the Sega Genesis. I mean, if you have the 6-button controller it's nice to have that many buttons, but how the fuck am I supposed to hold it comfortably with that weird rounded-crescent shape?

I don't really understand what 3D has to do with anything but... yea, stick is used more in games which is WHY I can't understand that placement on Xbox controllers.
If you move with your thumb, why would you want to put it up into wtf position? =D
