Cursed

I too, was worried about Rachel, she'd been important in my life since I'd first met her, a few years back. She was as good as a sister to me, perhaps closer. It was a problem of mine, this tendency to grow overprotective of younger females, but there it was. Now, though, I needed to get everyone here in stable condition. "Later" I said tersely. "we need to make sure everyone else is alive and going to stay there first, though."

"You're welcome~!" Miki chirped cheerfully, grinning. She gazed at the rest of her friends, checking if anyone needed some help, but saw that Ozy was got that covered. Sighing in relief, she plopped down on the ground, grimacing. Being too worried about the others, she forgot that she herself had wounds. A lot of them, too.

She still paid no heed to it, though. She couldn't think about herself now when one of them was still out on cold, alone. "But Ozy!" She protested, "What if something happened to Rachel? We need to go back for her."

I came out of the sleeping bag, wearing large boots, clean clothing, under a dry poncho. "I'm going for Rachel." I said, with a flat tone in my voice. I was in love with her, though I hadn't told my parents, and most people didn'ttake it seriously. I didn't care what I was risking by going out, I would not let anything get between me and her.

I nodded to Robert. "Then let's go then." I cared about Rachel like a sister too, and Robert knew it. Turning towards the front of the cave, I prepared myself and then plunged back out into the wind and freezing rain. I looked to make sure Robert was with me.NO sense in more of us getting lost out here.

"If you're going, be careful..." I said, not even shooting them a glance. "If it is truly what you want to do, do it, but I'm not being held responsible if you guys die." I'm sure they were expecting something more supportive from me, but what advice could I give? Go out there and freeze to death?

"Fine" I snapped. I could understand their worry in full, I could swear this was going to give me an ulcer. I was also confident enough to trust Rachel's skills enough to make sure everyone else was stable. I asked "Anyone else have any severe wounds? Any white bits?" first sign of frostbite, that. Looking around briefly I added "Good. Let's move deeper in. Warmer." I picked Nekhbet up gently, careful not to jar her.

"Nope, lets get going." I said as I went to take a step, but froze. I suddenly felt intense pain shoot from the back of my right leg. It didn't hurt earlier though! I bent down to look at the back of my leg, and found a huge gash going right down the center. Chances are I didn't feel it before because it was too cold. I could barely move that leg, and I didn't like that.

By now, my body heat had warmed the snow shelter enough to the point where it was comfortable for me, and i had virtually stopped bleeding. It was actually pretty warm in here, and had I been awake, I would have been praising my winter survival teacher. tomarrow I'd be able to move down to the river to find the others, but I knew nothing could find me down here.

"David?" Miki called worriedly, noticing that he was in pain. She watched him as he checked his leg then tilted her head, thinking a way to help him.

"Oh, yeah!" She exclaimed, dropping her skateboard on the ground. She pushed the skateboard to David and grinned teasingly. "You should eat more vegetables, mister!" She stated jokingly, finding it hard to be serious.

"Now, sit there and I'll push you all the way to wherever we're going!" She continued, giggling childishly.

Unfortunately, as I moved to the exit, I tripped. And while I was wearing tick boots, there was nothing protecting my hands.I cursed out load, drawing my hand back from the rock it had fell on, and saw that through the blood, it had beendeeply gashed. Strangely, it didn't hurt at all, but it didn't feel numb. It was shock, and could be more deadly than the wound itself...

"Jeez, people" I called, hearing Robert fall. "I only have so much shirt left! Be careful, would 'ya?" In poor taste, I knew, but I couldn't help it. It was how I coped. Besides, if I was worried, what would the rest think? Someone needed to take responsibility. I moved forward slowly, cursing myself all the while. Idiot! How could you not think to bring a flashlight, or at least a lantern! No matches either! You light-blasted fool! The cave floor seemed fairly even. A little too even, actually. The entrance seemed rougher, to be honest. Without warning, a light flared into being ahead of me. No source, nothing. Just a light.

"That was weird..." I muttered as I limped up behind Ozy, my lighter going. "I though I had felt a weird vibe from this place, but now it's just getting way too freaky." My leg still hurt greatly, and I feared it might be infected.

I looked over, having done what I needed to slow down, and eventually stop the bleeding. "Eh, you brought flares?" I asked Ozy, noticing the light ahead of him. Then, I noticed that it didn't have any source. "Err, nevermind." I said, a blank look on my face as I stood up, and began walking towards the lighted area...

"No bloody duh" I snapped, slightly irritable. I didn't like the unexpected, and as if that storm wasn't enough. I set Nekhbet down gently and said to David "Watch her, would you? I'm going up ahead." I moved forward cautiously, moving in the toe-heel walk that was by now ingrained into my brain. It was more deliberate, and far quieter. I didn't want to disturb whatever might be causing the light.

I followed Ozy, carefully stepping on the balls of my feet. I had always practiced this walk, and though it was difficult in the boots, I made almost no noise. I didn't intend to be left behind, and my curiosity was such that I didn''t think he could stop me if he wanted to. Sourceless light was impossible, so I had to find out where it was coming from...

"And of course, I end up the babysitting." I grunted as I kicked a rock, then plopped myself down on a boulder, waiting. Who knows how long I could be waiting for those two.... geez.

I noticed Robert wasn't with me. and ran back into the cave to see whats wrong. "What the hell..." I muttered, seeing his wound. "This is insane. Am I the only guy not hurting himself?" I asked in exhasperation. "I can't go find her by myself, you know. I'm only one guy, and it IS cold out there. I'm not immortal." I said. as if to emphasize, I went over to my bag and grabbed up my sleeping bag, tucked myself inside, and started shivering like crazy, trying to warm myself up.

Kristen began shivering. Very badly. Kristen cursed under her breath for her weakness. She always seemed to shiver at the worst times, and sometiems even when she wasn't cold. Kristen walked towards the light source, for she was curious to see what it was. She gripped her bag with her clothes and food items and walked with Ozy and Robert. Kristen's fear of possibly dying was replaced with awe of the light. She even forgot about her own knicks and scratches from the ice and plants (though it could hav ebeen from numbness) and walked with them, also hoping t oget warm.

I woke up finally, still hearing the winds rush overhead, and I glanced up to the top of the snow shelter, to realise that along one wall of the shelter, there was sheer rock, that seemed to lead into snow. Curious, I slipped out of my sleeping bag, and since I was warm and dry, decided to dig at the snow. To my shock, it suddenly fell away, revealing a long tunnel. there seemed to be a bright light coming from inside, and I moved toward it, curious, but wary...

OOC: X_X;

IC: The flare of bright light woke me slightly, and I realised I was in someone's arms. "I told you you could put me down.", I mumbled wearly, still seeing images flash in the back of my head. Death had not come. Yet. I couldn't feel my legs any longer, and a few spots were in intense pain. Blinking, I woke up a bit more. "Hey, has Rachel come back yet?" I asked.
