Yeah, even my school in Japan used it a lot. If there was a rock solid 'pedia that covered as much as the Wikipedia, then people would love it. But the only reason that the Wikipedia has so much information is because so many people write for it.

Oh, well, the problem of the wikipedia is that some people do changes for their own interests. You will be surprised by all the changes the most important companies made.

I have never used Wikipedia for any of my school projects. I tend to use more specific sites related to what it is on.

Has anyone had their GCSE results?

It still sux that they blocked wikipedia, what other good sites they have blocked? oh yeah YouTube, I could understand why it's block but it's a cool site

Wikipedia is probably blocked so students can't just get easy answers off the internet. I think teachers now-a-days want students to try looking up words in dictionaries instead of the internet, seeing as the internet might not be as reliable as they think sometimes. But I don't really understand why teachers wouldn't think Wikipedia is a reliable site. You can look up just about anything and get a result in most cases.

Over here where I live, they only put a ban on Youtube and other such sites during the school day. Like in computer class if you wanted to go on Youtube, it'd show up as restricted on the computer. But after school, it works strangely enough. I think they put a timed ban or something on the site.

I had a professor in my freshman year of college that banned us from using Wikipedia as a source because it could be edited by anyone and therefore "wasn't a reliable source of information". I guess he didn't realize that it's heavily moderated and anything false or biased written in there usually gets cleaned up as soon as it's put up there.

=O They did? Woah... At my school, were aloud to use Wikipedia. ^^

You're so lucky~ ;-; At my school, we weren't even aloud to look up things on the internet unless the teacher monitored us when we used laptops to make sure we got the right information, but never were we allowed to use Wikipedia, Google or any other site like that. Teachers just didn't think those sites were really good sources... On Google, just about any site can pop up. If we ever were to research off Google, we had to get a little slip of paper showing us what to search and what link to click on. .___.;

Your school's seem a to take the use of Google and Wikipedia quite serious. My school will let us use Google to search for what we are looking for. They won't give us direct instructions of the sites to use a lot of the time. We get to find are own sites.

Youtube isn't even blocked.

Yeah, our school is just too strict with these internet bans. You see... the reason they don't let us use Google is that 2 years ago or so this kid at the school was in the library, researching and the librarian caught him on Google looking up "inappropriate things for a child to research". Ever since then the teachers here take it pretty seriously if anyone else wants to use Google.

Heh. My school hardly cares.

Plus, the teachers are fools, so they give us a computer assignment and then leave the room. What is wrong with them!? XD

If someone looks at inappropriate things at my school they bring your parents in and show them. It has only happened once and since then no one has ever looked at them again. But I can understand there reason for doing it.

Has any of your schools blocked PC?

Are you serious? Don't those teachers realize that potentially half of the class won't even do the assignment? XD
If I were you... I'd just ask someone who did the assignment for answers and use that time to have fun. XD

My school seems to block more websites every time I go on their computers. Sure, we can search for things on google, but half the stuff we click on is blocked, even forums like this. I've even tried to get on a site for revision on a particular subject, but that was blocked too. We can get taken off the system if we go on a proxy site, so I don't really chance anything by somehow getting into a website that was blocked. XD;

XD Scheming, are we?

I think half of the class does that already. -dies- Only a few of them get caught.

lucky! well I don't start school till Monday and I hope wikipedia is not block but it's still kind of lame for having it block in some schools

You start school this Monday? I don't start school till next Monday.

@Emma: Forums are blocked on your school computers? Wow... that's really extreme of them to do. The computers over here never blocked forums unless they were inappropriate. Even PC worked on my school's computers. I dunno if that'll still be the case this year though.

Most people start school before me, I don't go back till a week on Wednesday.

Some forums are blocked at my school. If a forum gets popular around school then they block it. But I am the only person at school on PC so it won't get blocked. Doubt anyone from my school would join up as most don't like forums.

I start school in about a week and a half.

Tonight I'm going out with friends to see a movie~

That always seems to be the case at schools. If students really like a site, they block it. Nexopia was a big trend at our school, and they blocked it for no reason. Any sites that get popular among students always seem to get blocked in some way with some excuse given for the site in question.

@Paul: What movie are ya gonna watch?
