So I was playing my Pokemon Y and came across this. Sorry it's in attachments.

I thought that one was pretty good too, X & Y makes allot of references mostly to there own games like pokemon XD gale of darkness, one person talks about Coltress (think thats how you spell it). And also Terino looks like that android guy from DBZ.

i also think that mewtwo is partly a reference to DBZ's Freeza (Majinbuu Kid for Mega Evolution Y).

Some one at game freak is watching too much DBZ

The first time I saw that in game, I had to just sit there and be like did they just reference DBZ and all of my friends huddled over and we just laughed. Good job gamefreak lol

It's not actually DBZ. There have always been shows, even before DBZ that would refer to power levels and what not. I agree about the Mega Mewtwo though. Mewtwo Y is Buu and Mewtwo X is Freeza.

I was wondering if anybody else noticed that XD I thought it was pretty funny

The funny thing is, my trainer ID is 9000 and when I first heard it, I was thinking of both the power level reference and my ID. :P

I have heard this beforehand in spoilers, but it was still pretty funny when I saw it. I don't remember anymore anime references aside from that DBZ one.

There are a lot of meme references in this game, though I play the game in different language so I can't think anything off the top of my head.

"Over 9.000" is such a widespread internet meme, I kinda forget that it originated from DBZ. XD

References like that have been around in the Pokemon games for quite some time because the lead translator for the Pokemon games is supposedly a regular over at Something Awful.

Pokémon has always had DBZ influence since the first game. Sugimori's old artwork for the trainers resembled Toriyama's art style, and let's not forget Lucario and Mewtwo resembling Goku and Freiza respectively. The Mega Evolution origin also sounds kinda like the Super Saiyan origin from the Bardock OVA.

This is English only. In Japanese he said "きみたちの エネルギー す・さ・ま・じ・い!!" or Your guys' energy is fierce". Really wish they'd stop throwing memes that have no place in the localization/English adaptation. And 9000 was a translation mistake in DBZ too, supposed to be Over 8000, just like it appears in the the DVD Kai dub (much more accurate and well acted dub as well). People don't seem to know how to actually pronounce Kanto or Saiyan either, so why should it matter what was in the original versions.

Never liked the 9000 meme in the first place, so I hated it popping up in the English version. I noticed in my Japanese playthrough that on Route 5 there was a Youngster named Mamoru with a Pansage, so there was a real Game Freak making a reference there, Mamoru Miyano voiced Cilan in the Japanese version. He got renamed Keita in the English version, which doesn't make sense replacing one Japanese name with another. They should've either kept his name or adapted it to Jason.
