anachronism: Something located at a time when it could not have existed or occurred
For something that took place in 1914 or so, the 'modern' technology they had matched up pretty well. As for alchemy and certain other tidbits of technology (like automail...), yeah, a bit out of place. But I think it's possible for a civilization to advance more in a certain area than others, alchemy in this case. Isn't it? Even though the only civilization we can compare with is our own human civilization.

It depends on what you want to change it to...but if you have something good in mind (and you haven't changed your name for six months...but I can check and see whether you have or not for you), it's perfectly fine =D

I like what you wrote out, Simon, makes a lot of sense. *nod*

I wanna be your manager... someone has to take and spend the dirty conformist blood money that you don?t care about because you only want to be heard by those who never cared about you. ;3

I made that up; though they're liable to adopt it and make it the next big thing.

There are an incredible amount of technological anachronisms in FMA...you would think that their society would be far more advanced than it is given that they have the power to reshape matter in any way they please, and at the same time any technology they do have feels incredibly out of place in their time period.

But yes; it does get pretty bad when they have technology that even modern man could never dream of having...I'm thinking automail, there could be other examples, though.
Automail's the obvious one. I mean, it's 2005, and we haven't even come close to primitive cybernetics. FMA is set in the late 1910s-early 1920s. The rest basically speaks for itself.

For a show set in the late 1910s-early 1920s, FMA has reasonably advanced firearms. The standard-issue rifle of the State Military is a semi-automatic rifle similar to the Gewehr 43 or Tokarev SVT-40, both of which weren't even made until World War II; considering the fact that real-world militaries of the 1920s used bolt-action rifles (ex. Springfield M1903, Lee-Enfield), the State Military's guns were advanced for their time. Give them 10-15 more years, and the State Military will be armed with M16s.

Thats the thing, I can get to an idea like this and then blank on what to change it to.:\

Mystic, actually, thats my first name I've had on here. Since March of this year when I joined up.

Can do.

As for FMA's year, it has to be at the turn of the century, the cars look more primitive, and the character's clothing is pre-20's~ish. D;

Well, if you're happy with what you have, there's no need to change it...but if you want to, I can't be the one to give you ideas unless you have something in mind...but you can bounce ideas off of me if you want.

Are we debating the FMA year? o.o

Lets say 1923 :3

Actually, as far as I know, it's 1913-1914, as Ed burned down the house on October 3, 1910, and it's been three to four years since he did that, as I believe he was eleven then and either fourteen or fifteen now.

Well, the last episode places Hohenheim in "our world" in Munich during the year 1921. Since the Gate links the two worlds, I'd assume time would be the same as well. Ed and Al ran around for four years, so I'd narrow it down to 1916 onwards for the last couple episodes.

I have seen some episodes of FMA and for some reason, the military uniforms look simular to something of the Russian, German or Austrian-Hungarian military. Austria-Hungry was around until 1918 and as for it looking simular to German or Russian, it looks like its from their military about around WW2. Roughly about the 30's to mid 40's.

Yeah, it's set around the time of World War I. I believe the FMA movie is set around 1921-1923

Who here read my treatise on FMA's firearms? O_o;
