6th Gen Did they do something with catch rates?

Mewtwo didn't seem to be as hard to catch as I remember back in the days of R/B/Y.

Xerneas and Yveltal aren't supposed to be difficult to catch, as you have to catch them as part of the storyline. Strange thing is that they apparently have lower catch rates than Zekrom and Reshiram (who you also have to catch as part of the storyline). The former have catch rates of 30, while the latter are 45. But I had an easier time catching Yveltal than I did Zekrom.

So who knows.

EDIT: Huh, Serebii and Bulbapedia have different numbers for the catch rates. I'm gonna assume that Serebii has the right number here, since I had an easier time catching Yveltal than Zekrom (I soft resetted several times when catching Yvetal, and it was easy every single time).

Serebii says Yveltal and Xerneas have catch rates of 70. Mewtwo and Zygarde on the other hand are both 3. I don't think they changed the formula or anything, so I'd write it off to luck in the case of Mewtwo and Zygarde.

I felt like the game allowed you to catch them after two tries. My first two balls completely missed, while the third Heal Ball perfectly caught Yveltas on the third try.

I wouldn't rely on Bulbapedia for X/Y info just yet, they still seem to have a lot of missing/incorrect info at the moment. Not sure about Serebii though, I usually use Bulbapedia.

The catch rates definitely seem a little different here. As mentioned, Yveltal and Xerneas must be caught for the story to progress, so I'm sure they made sure the player catches it. I don't know if this is true, but I heard somewhere that a player knocked out the Legendary, but the game just replayed the battle until they caught it.

Caught Mewtwo in a normal pokeball with relative ease... that says something.

But hey, Zekrom and Reshiram were pretty easy to catch too last gen. The games just seem like they're getting easier.

It seems that only the legendaries are getting easier, other than that, the catchrates are (in my experience) the same. Though i will admit, when catching a pidgy is harder to catch than mewtwo... come on gamefreak :P

Ok, i over-exaggerated there but ya get the point

Certainly the box legendaries are easier to catch, because of the plot demanding it be so. Which is somewhat disappointing to me, really. Sure, it's usually an annoying challenge, but what is the point about hyping up the importance of legends of Time or Death and whatnot, if an Ultra Ball or two does the trick? If a chatot is harder to catch than it?

And after all, the easy-way-out option is already available - it's called the Master Ball. I'd rather they just make the catch rate more 'realistic' for the legendaries because you can always opt for the simple one-ball method.

I caught Xerneas in a pokeball, Zygarde was slightly more difficult but I got him in a pokeball.

I think you were lucky with Mewtwo, I spent ages trying to get him, but I got him in an ultra ball.

I used capture power 3 and still lost 40 ultraballs and 32 timer balls on mewtwo - paralysed and red hp

Wow. I caught Mewtwo like my third try with a normal pokeball. I had him paralyzed and 1HP with false swipe. Still, maybe I was luckier than I thought then. I was a bit disappointed with how easy I felt it was though! haha.

This must be your luck, because I haven't been able to catch any legendaries yet as quick as you. xD It took me about an hour and half to finally capture Mewtwo, and as for Zygarde, it took even longer. Yveltal wasn't as hard as these two, but was still pretty difficult. Took me approximately thirty minutes to catch it.

People are catching things so easily? I had to throw FIVE Pokeballs at the snorlax on route 7 (I think it's route 7) and his health was pretty low.

Some pokemon do seem easier to catch. I managed to have a much easier time catching Mewtwo in X then I have in any other game.

Articuno was a PAIN for me to capture. Not talking about getting it to spawn, but when finally fighting it in the cave. I could get it low without any issues (I even brought a False Swipe Pokemon), but the bird just didn't want to get in the ball! Even after catching it I had to reset a few times to get a decent nature....

All of the others were a breeze. Took Xerneas low and caught it in a Luxury Ball (my favorite kind). Zygarde I don't recall having any problems with. Mewtwo I just caught in the Master Ball for OCD reasons :)

As mentioned by others, I have issues with regular Pokemon. Even those I have taken down with False Swipe will refuse to be captured quite often. Except for maybe a Smeargle, I have yet to find a Pokemon that can learn Paralyze or a sleep attack and False Swipe. Maybe I should just level my Smeargle :/
