Music Discover Weekly by PC [WEEK 03 - POST #34]

I do Like the songs, the current playlist are not bad. People have choose wisely for thier songs.

I figured since I submitted a song, I would post why I submitted it for listening.

When people ask "what is a good instrumental rock song" most people will point to YYZ, by Rush, from the Moving Pictures album. And yes, that is a great instrumental song. But then you introduce yourself to Pink Floyd, and realize they are the kings of instrumental songs.

So that brings us to "One Of These Days", the opening track from the Meddle album. It starts quiet, but then the DOUBLE bass line kicks in. It's almost like a duel between Roger Waters and David Gilmour. At about 2:07 the drums make their first appearance. 2:49 the bass goes away, and the song transfers into what people call "Doctor Who mode", as it sounds like Pink Floyd's own version of the Doctor Who theme (especially when they play it live). At 3:30 the drums kick back in, and at 3:37, drummer Nick Mason (behind walls and walls of distortion) says the title of the track, and then the song EXPLODES into a race of sounds for the duration of the song and never lets you go.

That's why this is the greatest rock instrumental of all time. That's why I submitted it for listening.

shit harley you like X? would not have expected that. otherwise, that Foxing pick is great -- one of my favorite emo revival albums, perhaps, but there's a lot of those, so maybe not. great song though. and Dirty is my least favorite SY album but it's still alright, and that song's pretty good. "Closing Time" does bang, regardless of how overplayed it's become, and "No Destruction" is also a pretty great song. loved that album when it came out.

Oh I forgot to submit anything this week. Not that anyone really likes my stuff except me.

Ehh.... there isn't much I can really get into on this playlist. Run with Me and Closing Time are alright. I liked 100% quite a bit too. But my favorite is probably Opening the Gates.

I'm really picky with music yeah.

Listened to this playlist earlier. Wasn't as much that I would rush out and buy this time, but that's probably because there was less songs.

Nice to see 1985 and Radio Ga Ga on there though. Two great choices. Do yourself a favor though and look up "Queen Live Aid" and watch their performance of Radio Ga Ga there.

Also, fun fact, Radio Ga Ga is where Lady Gaga got her name!

Hey guys, I'll be a little late next week producing the playlist. Don't break your pitchforks out just yet. ;)

A great selection, this week, among other genres, of rock - classic and recent. Two members even submitted the same band! Very cool stuff. :)

Big fan of The Shins and Talk Talk this week. What about you guys?

ASSORTED THOUGHTS: love the fact that Talk Talk is there twice. I vastly prefer their post-rock stuff, but. still. I really don't like Common. unpopular opinion. "Hey QT" is one of my least favorite bubblegum bass songs. MTV Unplugged might be Nirvana's best record, tbh, in a way, so naturally that's a great selection. one of my friends is really really into The Shins, but I'm not huge on 'em. and that Death Grips song is the best thing they've done and the only song of theirs I really love.

The Rainbow is sooooo gooooood thooooo

Here is why I picked "The Ballad Of Billy The Kid" for this week, specifically the live version of it. "The Ballad Of Billy The Kid" is a great tune, but this is one time when being in a live setting allows the artist to do more, and in this case, Billy Joel brings in a strings section to really add some extra oomph to the song.

I'm a Bowie fan, but I've never liked the Nirvana cover. Wasn't much this time that made me want to go out and find more, but maybe it's because I've heard of a lot of these artists before. Sun Will Rise was nice though.
