I just recently opened a bank account and now have a debit card and been using it a little too much. XD And as a I got out of Taget after buying an unresonable amount of both needed and unneeded crap (shirt, Pokemon cards, flash drive, mousse , and a candy bar) this topic came to mind.

When using a debit card, do you ask for cash back?

I usually don't , but today I did for one purchase, just to do it once. It was pretty much a "just because" moment.

Cash back isn't really a thing in the UK. I used to hate it in the US though. I'd spend all my cash really quickly.

Also the US doesn't have the chip and pin system which makes processing tourist transactions rather challenging sometimes(especially because tourists dont realize the shop is run mostly by volunteers so we dont get paid, so when we're slow customers are a bit rude and intolerant).

I wish we did have the cash back system more though. It would save time running to an ATM and would encourage spending as well. I'd much rather get cash for the bus by running into a nearby business rather than running halfway down high street.

This could actually come in handy. I've never heard of such a thing before now tbh. That's why they need to have a class on becoming adults in school so they can teach you finance and miscellaneous aspects of life that you'd never figure out on your own.

I really only use it when the nearest ATM is too far away to be convenient or if I'm in too much of a hurry to go driving around to find one. XD

I rarely keep cash on hand anyways. I've had my wallet stolen in the past, and it's easier to deactivate my debit card than recover a bunch of cash. :/

They had that when I was in middle school. It was called Finance Park and it was like a month long math class plus field trip to a place where you have to make a budget and get a "job" and all that nonsense. It was pretty fun though. You got to "buy" a house by clipping one out of the paper and it had to fit in with the budget and like everyone had different jobs selected by the teachers, and I got to be a single parent.

If my wallet is really running low, then i'll often take cash back. But my college has an ATM machine that's free of charge for TD Bank card holders, like me, so it's usually not much of a concern.

I've never really understood the concept of "cash back" so I've never really used it \: Then again, even though I do have a debit card, I rarely use it because I always try to have some sum of cash on me at all times.

I never take My cash back, I always Don't like the Idea of it.

Actually, there are classes like those, when I was in High School, I took a lower level math course and it taught how to calculate taxes when you go shopping, what ATM,ABM and etc. meant, there were other things too, but I just can't remember them atm. And for arguments sake, these things are really things that you'd be able to figure out on your own, it's not rocket science. But, if you can't, then you can always ask a financial advisor/account about all these at your local bank.

I remember having something similar except that it was for about 3 or so days and it wasn't a field trip. It was really fun and I wish that we could do it again in college, it'd honestly help a whole ton after you graduate and get your certificate/diploma/degree.

As for the topic, here in Canada we do have the Cash Back system. Not all the stores have the option available though you'd have to be lucky enough to find a store that does. I am very surprised that the UK does not have the Chip (Interac debit, cash and flash) and Pin systems. click here to find out more about interac! I mean, don't people get their money stolen from their bank chequing accounts?

Anyway, I have used the Cash Back system fairly a lot iirc. It's somewhat handy and convenient.

Well I guess it's more of finding out things you wouldn't have known before, as opposed to working things out like taxes, writing checks, etc, if that makes any sense. I mean with the cash back thing, you're right, it's not rocket science but I still wasn't aware of its existence to begin with. And we had economics, not sure about finance, and obviously econ focuses on the more macro concepts, so it wasn't all that helpful.

For me, I will BUT! It all depends on the cash back fee. I saw one at a ATM in an outdoor mall that was $5 I promptly declined that. If the fee isn't steep, which it normally isn't, I'll take about $20 out to tide me over. I only use my debit card for extremely large purchases anyway

...I had to google that to know what it meant XD So my answer is obviously no, I don't think there is such a thing in Spain, although I recall seeing a cashback offer somewhere around here in Argentina.

Anyway, I don't really use cash at all if I can help it, I try to keep a few fivers around my wallet and some coin change in case I desperately need to buy something but otherwise I pay everything by card. Helps me control my spending better, actually, since I can keep a tally of what I have spent and on what.

Around where I live cashiers werent asking if you wanted cash back and they would press yes instead of no and take that 20$ from the customers and a lot of them didnt notice because they barely ever check the reciepts! :/ freakin scammers...
