Dub Names

Of course, since the dub likes to literally change 90% of the names, some are gonna be good, while others will be embarrassing. Some names, of course, such as Iris, were left intact, as well as Serena. However names like Shinji was changed to Paul, and Shooty was changed to Trip. Other notable changes were Shu to Drew and obviously, Satoshi to Ash.

What are some characters you prefer the Japanese names of?
Which characters do you prefer their English name of?

I prefer Drew over Shu, while I prefer Shinji over Paul... hmm.
Characters like "Ash" I'm just so used to calling him that that it's hard for me to see his name any other way!

I usually refer to dub name when discussing Pokemon, although I usually prefer the Japanese names when spoken.

Given how I only recently watched the anime in sub format, anything up to BW I usually refer to in dub format, while XY is more than likely Japanese name (with exception to human names, but I usually refer to Mairin as Manon).

I'm so screwed on this regard because I grew up with Pokemon in both the English and Japanese Language...

I like the Japanese names better tho (Sounds a lot cooler in my opinion)... Much more in the anime cause of the cry the VA's really give so much personality to each Pokemon with only a few lines.

I grew up watching dubbed Pokémon and only recently started watching the subs - so I normally refer to characters with their dub name. That said I do prefer Shinji over Paul (and re: the OP's example, I'm fond of neither Trip nor Shooty) but yeah generally I just go with the dub name since that's what comes to mind first. I think things will change in Sun/Moon as I watch the sub more!

I like all of them. Except maybe Trip, since he reminds me of a character from a certain videogame that drives fear inside me.
