DUOLINGO

A few of my friends and I picked up Duolingo again recently (show yourselves if you like) and I thought it would be fun if we start a little thing here to keep ourselves motivated!

Anybody currently using Duolingo? What language(s) are you learning/have you tried learning with it? What's your longest/current streak? Have you used it in the past and decided it wasn't for you? I know the owl is pushy and that's become a meme of its own - I don't have any illusions that Duolingo alone is going to teach me any language fluently but I do find the gamifying of learning vocab and all that pretty fun. Slap a leaderboard on anything and I'm in.

Please share your usernames if you are using/starting up Duolingo again and comfortable with sharing!! I would love to add more people. Here's my little card thingy:
Spoiler:

I forgot I had an account until you reminded me. ^^;

Here's my profile, Juno. I changed my username to 'Alysheba32.' I can add you.

I've used Duolingo for Italian and French. I want to learn Italian to read more mystery books. And I need to learn French to play Pokemon Blanche 2.

I think Duolingo's pretty useful. After studying for months I was able to read multiple chapters of 'Pokemon Adventures' in Italian. I think Memrise is better for learning vocab and I recommend using both of them.

Oh my goodness it's me one of the friends!!! Thanks Karen for making the thread <3.

I first picked up Evil Bird That Will Kill My Family Language Learning App all the way back in 2017, when me and a bunch of friends decided we'd learn Spanish and go on holiday there. That plan fell flat on all fronts!

Much more recently, I was speaking to my therapist and conversation came around to me wanting to go abroad somewhere again (something that due to complications which I'm seeking said therapy for I can't really do). As a result, we decided to set a goal that in 12-18 months, I'd set a destination and then learn the language on Duolingo etc. and go there. Said destination was France and therefore, that's the language I'm learning rn!

Although I did study French for about 3 years after the mandatory learning at secondary school, I have decided to go right back to basics. Mostly because my biggest issue is actually retaining vocab - most of the grammar rules I still remember but I have a handful of words at best at my disposal! Will definitely be checking Mesmire out btw @Yellow Bommen, thank you!

The app has been great so far - I remember it seemed a little more nonsensical when I used it last. This time around it seems to feel a bit better, the lessons and units flow a bit better into one another so I'm not learning a unit and then never seeing it again. That's been really helpful.

I'll pop my profile here for anyone that does want to follow

I use Duolingo right now. I am learning some words in Italian, and have done 9 units of it so far. I also completed 12 units of German, and 8 for Japanese.

I first downloaded the app last summer and have a 397 day streak, albeit the streak freezes I keep equipped have repaired my streaks on more than one occasion when I was absent. Since they introduced friend streaks a couple of months ago though I haven't used a freeze, and set aside a moment a day for at least one lesson so that my friend in Hungary who invited me to do the streak with him isn't let down. The teamwork component of Duolingo does help me to stay engaged.

I have just a small handful of friends to follow though, so room for more! Would be willing to add pokecommunity friends, if you are active on Duolingo. I'm Sam on Duolingo too. Note I am going to show up if I'm on a friend quest or have a friend streak with you, friend me only if you're ready for the nudges and xp boost gifts ! 😎

hello i've added a couple of you already when we all picked this back up but feel free to add me \o/

i haven't been very consistent with duolingo mostly because I study Japanese using other resources, but it's always a quick and fun way to get a little practice in. The app has also improved quite a bit from when I first started messing around in it a decade ago. I forgot the login info for my old account so I only made this new one a few days ago.

Just reached my 50 day streak, it's been a little slow for some of it but generally it's been really nice to have something like this to do every day!

And most importantly, I am finding that I am actually remembering things I learn from my lessons, which is nice. There are a few gripes and gaps that I need to patch up, but I think I'll start looking into other resources to do that soon.

Day 65! Just made it to Diamond League this week and it's insane - I've tried to stay in top 3 every week but I don't know if I can this week lol. But yeah, I think I would not be studying as consistently without it - I do use a lot of outside resources to help me understand better, but I do find it a good review tool that's very persistent in getting me to use it daily lol, which is really helpful for me.

Just started Greek courses on Duolingo. Learning some of the alphabet letters has been amusing so far, I just wish they had better voices for audio recording of this language.

The pronunciation sounds clear at least, and it's not unpleasant to listen to, but more variation between the characters speaking would be ideal, you just hear one ai lady voice for everything and I like it when they all sound like different people. I like the language itself but miss the antics of Junior and Eddy as characters.
