It's gonna be just like G/S/C, they probably won't add any Sinnoh/Hoenn Pokemon.

I think :
Hoothoot
Sentret
Pidgey
Caterpie
Weedle
Zubat
Rattata

Personally, for me, having a lot of Pokemon that make it easy against all the Gyms would ruin the fun for me.

Ah same here. Sure it'd be nice to add one or two but really I live for the challenge otherwise having it so easy ruins the experience and makes it boring. I say keep it as it is :9

Yes, I want some decent pokemon. For example, a Growlite before the wnd gym, because I'm forced to choose a fire starter -.- You can catch a slowpoke in slowpoke well, which evolving into slowking is a fairly good pokemon. And zubats also, I don't get why people forget them. They're good when evolved into Crobat. What else.. some good grass pokemon please!

No, you're not forced to pick anything, tbh. I played through ShinyGoldX with a Chikorita. Hardest thing i ever did, but i did nonetheless.
Now, back to legit games- there are plenty of Pokemon obtainable at the start, and usable for the whole game. I usually use the Flying type (taillow, starly, spearow, hoothoot, wingull). To this day, I have never had a Pidgeot, so I intend to use one in my HeartGold playthrough. I find the early Pokemon can come in extremely handy, later on. I mean Bidoof- there's a HM slave for the rest of the game. Starly/Pidgey etc- A Flyer, who is often a force to be reckoned with in battle. I really don't see a problem with them, and there's no law saying that you can't switch them for other Pokemon later in the game.

Ohh man, there really NEEDS to be a Mareep. I WANT AMPHAROS~!

It would certainly be awesome if I could get a Teddiursa early on in the game, rather than having to wait all they way till I'm done with the gyms.

The first gym is never a problem, but then I evolved my starter before the first rival battle.

I third this notion. Although I would like a way to capture a water-type other than Magikarp before Olivine. (Crystal had Poliwag, which was a good start).

We need a ground type Pokemon (like Phanpy or Sandshrew) at the beginning. Phanpy can learn Rollout at level 15 so thats good for Falkner

I say that only a few Pokémon should appear early in the game, because like stated it'll kind of change it from how the originals were and it'll make the game a bit easier. I do agree though, that more Johto Pokémon should be shown and less Kanto Pokémon most definitely.

I definitely think it'd be nice to have a pokemon like Phanpy at the beginning.

Phanpy would be a good idea to have early in the game. Although I would only like a few Kanto pokemon early in the game, not too much.

I don't think so, sure most are mediocre but Caterpie eventually becomes Butterfree which is a powerful bug type if used right, Pidgey becomes Pidgeotto and eventually Pideot. Hoothoot, when it learns powerfull flying, physic type moves then evolves into Noctowl can be very usefull. I think having these pokemon to start off makes it a challenge to work with and for me, it is something I personally enjoy. I just train them a lot before advancing past Violet City.

All the Pokémon that is stated as weak really isn't when the evolve. I mean even Sentret when it evolves can be pretty strong on a team. Plus, some of them evolve at an early level, like Caterpie for example.

Rattata/Raticate is solid with good SPD, ATK and moves like Quick Attack and Hyper Fang. Hoothoot is solid enough with Peck to last for the first couple of Gyms. I almost always raise a Zubat for Crobat, and I usually pick up a Geodude from Dark Cave as well, Rock Throw and Magnitude are excellent early-game moves. And let's not forget Gastly from Sprout Tower.

I'd also assume that Butterfree will now have Compound Eyes, which ups the accuracy of Poisonpowder/Sleep Powder/Stun Spore considerably and makes it a strong early-game Pokemon.

If you really think of it, with the new use of abilites, new moves and better stats as they level up, the early in-game Pokémon aren't so terrible as some may think.

I've always done well with the Pokemon in the beginning. I only really need two good Pokemon in beginning and that's my starter and some wild Pokemon that satisfies my needs.

In RB/FRLG it was Squirtle and Mankey
In GSC it was Totodile and Gastly/Geodude
In RSE it was Mudkip and Tailow
Finally, in DPPt it was Piplup and Starly

Seems to me the starting Pokemon in all the games are perfectly fine.

It is given that flying types will there, but you can at least be glad to have Ghastly at the beginning before, because it is a strong Ghost Type to have after it evolves. Plus, it doesn't take long for it to evolve either.
