Funny, I'd expect him to be the first to have at least one of those character traits. XD *nuked*

(coughthinkIknowwhatyoumeancough)

...Whut? Why? o.O Or are you being sarcastic without me noticing (me being the dingbat I am...?)

EDIT: Holy Mew on a stick, this is my second first-on-the-new-page in one day.

I don't really get Bay's post, either. o.O I was simply saying that because it seems like the traits you mentioned would fit that character.

Oh. No, he's quite sane...he's the Steadfast. It's the Crafted's job to go insane.

...And now I'm just going to sit back and watch you puzzle over what I just said. -sips tea-

To illustrate.

Newb fic versus n00b fic

See the difference? (Readers sensitive about the Kingdom Hearts franchise or just concerned about the English language in general, beware: what you see on the second link may be detrimental for your health)

Wow, that second one...could really do with some improvement.

This is sort of random, but it is related to the topic of people with an ego refusing to take constructive criticism. Does anyone else get annoyed when they see an excuse like "I write for myself" or "I don't care about grammar/form/format/etc--I write from the soul", etc etc?

I know I do, but maybe I'm just a silly sailor.

I read the first part, and I was like "wait...was that supposed to make sense?" Then I finally read the second part and I was like "ah."

I might have to check your fic out now...and I'm drinking tea, as well. Odd. -sips tea back-

Oh, and I could probably trump all confusing plots with Mastermind. It seriously hardly even makes sense to me.

Absolutely. To the first, you're clearly not writing for yourself if you're posting that writing on the Internet. In such a case you're definitely writing for an audience. For the second part, great, whatever, go ahead and not care about format and grammar and stuff, but know that what you've written is worthless if it doesn't adhere closely enough to English conventions for readers to be able to get a good grasp on it. Also know that it ticks readers off, and if you're writing for an audience (see part one) then it's generally a bad idea to tick your audience off with things like misplaced apostrophes.

Well, those terms never actually come up in the fic...they're just my way of referring to certain key characters. After a good bout of over-analysis, I organized Fuega's cast into pairs, each of which represents two opposite ways of responding to or coping with what I call the "Feral Spirit" - basically, the soul of a natural state, with the laws of survival as the only guidelines. So far, the Crafted, the Innocent, the Corrupted, and the Comrades have appeared...the Rogue, the Slave, the Rebel, and the Steadfast have yet to make an appearance.

-slaps self for being spoilery- Gah! >_<

Yes, I think it is quite annoying when that is the best excuse they can come up with. I had one guy get pissed off at me fore reviewing his fic, because I was younger than him. >.>

Oh jeez yes. >_< People like that just need to grow up. Life isn't be all happy rainbows, guys. You've gotta accept your own failings if you want to get anywhere.

And If you're going to 'write from the soul'...don't insult your soul with noobishness on its part. -shot-

Oh man. If I reviewed noobfics, I'd probably get some hassle for that very reason...just another excuse not to listen to concrit! D:

Oh, review entitlement. I've seen a fair bit of that around different sites.

For any who aren't familiar: review entitlement means the person thinks they are owed reviews, and now just any kind. They must be (x) length, (x) quality. Sometimes, they must be from people above a certain age, and sometimes they only count if they are from people who have written a story themselves. Requirements can vary.

It's even funnier when someone not only has review entitlement, but they also get angry when it is anything but praise.

Of course, one must also be worried about reviewer entitlement, where the reviewer gets up in arms because the author didn't follow all of their suggestions or worship the ground upon which said reviewer walks just because they deigned to bestow concrit upon the story.

I was gone for nearly two days, so to tell you the truth, I tl;dr'ed much of the discussion. I'll respond to a few right now, but I'll catch up/jump in properly later.

If you meant Freedom, I posted one! =O

No, no. The one after freedom -- "battles."

I know that a lot of people hate on noob's fics, and let's be honest, most of that anger is justified, but have you ever seen a noob who has had a good story?

By strict definition? No, for the reasons already stated.

How long had your longest written rant been?

Well, considering the fact that the entirety of the Reviewer's Guide is just one, long rant, I'd say a few pages.

How long has your longest chapter been

Twenty-two, if I recall correctly. Naturally, one of the Midsummer chapters, considering my average for that started out as twelve and slowly crept up to twenty.

That's certainly an issue too. Just as the reviewer is free to state their opinions on the piece without having to sugarcoat, the writer is free to take from it what they will and ignore it if they don't agree.

If you could meet one character from a Fan Fiction of yours, who would it be?
Definitely Lisa. We could have math battles, go to Applebee's... the possibilities are endless XD

By the very definition of n00b, no. Newbs, however, are another matter altogether, as the quality is variable from n00b-level-dreadful to awesome.

How long has your longest chapter been?
Nineteen pages.

Yeah, For clarification, "Until my Finest Hour" is not a noob fic, but a Newbie fic. In the sense, that he is new, good to excellent and listens to advice.

In that way, I don't know if my previous answer still qualifies for the question about "good noob fics"

"I am disinclined to acquest your request."
"What?"
"-Means no."

- Pirates of The Caribbean Random Quote because I have nothing else forum-y to say besides the fic reference above.

I am wondering:

Is it generally acceptable to use your favorite Pokemon as the main characters Pokemon? (With out it seeming to degrade the story.)

Why would using a particular Pokemon degrade the story?

Let's take me as a good example. I love Pikachu. I think that the rat is cute, adorable, and huggable, especially when nicknamed after certain science fiction characters. I like Pikachu so much that I plan to write one into one of my fics. Does having a Pikachu make my fic any less of the quality it would be without the Pikachu? Not really. The story might be different, but it's still going to have the same quality. I have the Pikachu in the story because I want to write about a Pikachu, just like I want to write about the Rattata character. I picked Pokemon that I want to write about, and some are also my favorite Pokemon.

But the story is not "degraded" in any way. It just means that my characters have Pokemon that I like, or at least have some interest in writing. I'm not going to force myself to write about Pokemon that I either don't like or have no interest in writing just to please the readers. They are reading the story that I wrote, and I want to write about Pikachu.

There shouldn't be any serious repercussions using a particular Pokemon in your fic. (Within reason. I mean, don't just hand your character a Legendary Pokemon and lol your way through the story.) So what if you want to hand your trainer a Pikachu/Lucario/Garchomp/Infernape/Tangrowth? Just as long as there's a good explanation as to how the character got it (no starter Eevee, please), then it's fine.

It sort of sounds like if a writer uses their favorite Pokemon, then it's an insult to the fic. Which is a rather hilarious idea to me. I guess that this idea that you can only write about certain Pokemon so that your fic isn't "degraded" is a bunch of something.

(And yes, DP479, I was thinking of you during this post, and your hatred of Pikachu.)
