To point something out:
Kirei was not Lancers original Master. It was Bazette which summoned Lancer. She was the most powerful Master [Zero/FSN] and was taken out by Kirei off guard. Similar to what Kirei did to Tokiomi.

It was also hinted at the Flashback Episode that Lancers Master is a "she". So it was more a clear up, then a Spoiler - so it was also not useless like you claim.

Lancer was such a bro in the last two episodes that it seems unfair that his master wasn't Rin sadly enough. It was satisfying to see Lancer deal with Shinji the way he did - shame he didn't kill him. Shirou finally looking badass though I'm not quite clear about the meaning behind his talks with Archer..

Lancer was such a bro in the last two episodes that it seems unfair that his master wasn't Rin sadly enough. Regarding the whole Archer and Shirou talk.

Basically, Shirou found the answer to his ideal. Shirou's dream to become a "hero of justice" is something that should be viewed as a life style, something that you want to do and live by, not a goal like Archer imagined it. This is the exact reason why Archer became disillusioned by his own ideal, because he expected at some point to arrive at a resolution, a definitive end, but refused to accept the futility in it. Shirou knowingly resigns to the fact that in his life, he will be walking down the same path as Archer and will deal with the same consequences; however, he will now be able to accept the loss that he can't fully live up to the ideal, something Archer wasn't able to do.

I'm so glad they implemented the "I'll agree, but with one condition" line regarding the alliance with Lancer a few episodes back from the VN. I loved that moment in the VN and it fit perfectly. The UBW movie went with the generic yes response and I was so disappointed when I saw it.

As far as actually understanding what's going on with this last episode, I believe a lot was lost in translation, same as with MM's translation of the VN.

I believe the central issue is regret and that'll probably come out in the next episode. Archer regrets his actions because he was betrayed by the one thing he believed in and believes it was all worthless. However, Shirou knows that even if what he is doing is a hollow, borrowed ideal that will end horribly for him, it's still the right thing to do; he knows that saving people is still something worth doing despite all that.

Also, if anyone's wondering (and this is never explained or hinted at in the VN or movie and the anime has only hinted at it a few times by way of illustration), the event near the end of his life where Archer traded the ability to perform something beyond his ability (in order to save a few hundred lives) for being a guardian after death (and what he thought was the potential to save many more) was preventing a nuclear reactor from undergoing a meltdown; he managed to bypass the plant security measures and travel a relatively long distance in a very, very short amount of time, thereby preventing the thing from going critical (and no, over-exposure to radiation is not how he got all tan). This is explained in a hidden dialog in Archer's route in Fate/Extra. I wish I could recommend it, and I do recommend it if you're a fan, but it's marred by the fact that the combat is literally rock-paper-scissors-Spock. It does has playable Caster who is 10/10 and playable Saber who is voiced by the same VA as CCS (yes, THAT one, the one in my profile). And some of the dialog is pretty great. Check it out if you're into Nasuverse stuff at all. I wish they'd translate CCC. End of tangent.

Lancer's death scene was bittersweet. Good riddance to Kirei though. Never liked him since Zero. I was just wondering though, whether Rin could've saved Lancer from dying to his suicide injury. I mean like through magic, or like being his new Master and replenishing his prana.

Archer and Shirou talk was borderline boring to me, probably because I already roughly understood Archer's intentions of killing his younger self. It's food for all the weeaboo philosophers though xD

Not through magic. Maybe through your latter suggestion, but I don't know if she had the capacity to handle two, especially since he was about as far gone as you can get by the time she was freed.

It makes more sense when you see the story as a whole, including the last route (Heaven's Feel), yet to be adapted (possibly 2016).

Not going into major spoilerish details of course, but think as UBW as 'one of the possible outcomes of the story'. In any case even if they forgot some stuff and drama to dialogue, it's pretty much the same content that the VN, so we can say it's not suffering from an adaptation decay... at least on that part lol

Just in case, that was a personal opinion, someone who already has read the VN doesn't necessarily need to agree with me :)

@Offtopic: About Fate/Extra (PSP game). I have a copy of the game, is it very similar to Persona 3/4 or was that only my impression? I will play it someday, I'm very fond of the Nasuverse, but I would like to read Kara no Kyokai (since I only watched the anime adaptation) and play Tsukihime first :)

Ehhh, I dunno. The gameplay's pretty different, even if it follows the same basic formula (non-combat segments followed by combat segments). I guess navigation of the combat levels are pretty similar. I would say P3/P4's systems are a lot more complex. Still, F/E is pretty fun if you can get past the rock-paper-scissors combat system. I really just wish they'd TL CCC; I heard it's really good, at least story-wise.

Tsukihime is pretty solid, but I actually liked Kagetsu Tohya better.

P3/P4's combat isn't that deep either. Status effects here and there (easily recovered) and Yukiko heals everything while the others blast things to hell. I never had to come up with a different strategy even once and I didn't even overlevel myself.

Careful of the grinding in Extra though.

Glad I decided to play the VN before the happenings of the 2nd Cour of UBW. While the Prologue is dry, the explanation is helpful. I also want to see the other routes.
