Event Favorite Pokémon Tournament 2017: Flying (Nov. 23 - 30)

Welcome to the fifth annual installment of the Favorite Pokémon Tournament, hosted here in Pokémon General! The goal of the Favorite Pokémon Tournament (also known as the FPT), is to determine the most popular Pokémon/Pokémon family of the users here at the PokéCommunity. This will be a 10-week set of polls running between now and December, where we'll pit almost all Pokémon of different types from past and present generations against each other to determine a winner. After we know the results of each type, we'll add all of those Pokémon to a final poll, where the winner(s) will be crowned champion, and will go down into the record books as PokéCommunity's favorite Pokémon of 2017!

If you are new to the Favorite Pokémon Tournament, or would just like a refresher on the rules/process of the event, please take a look at the FAQ posted below:​

Spoiler:

• Every week, two new polls will be stickied at the top of Pokémon General. Each thread will include a different elemental type, and the list of Pokémon to vote from.
• You aren't required to pick just one Pokémon- you can vote for as many as you'd like to ensure your favorites get through. The Pokémon with the most votes at the end of the week will earn a spot in our grand finale, where the winners from all other polls will compete to be crowned the champion(s)!
• In order to preserve space, we've grouped all of the applicable evolutions in a Pokémon family together. Some Pokémon (ex.: the Nidoran families, Alolan variants, etc.) may be exempt from this rule.
• While regional variants have been included, please be aware that any Pokémon that changes formes (Mega Evolutions, Pokémon holding items, etc.) will only be included in polls with its original typings.
• In the event of a tie at the end of the week, all Pokémon tied for first place will advance to the finale.
  
• If there are any questions that you need answered, feel free to leave a comment in this thread or send a VM to Вrendino to get it sorted out.
  

NOTE: Due to the number of existing Flying type Pokémon, not all eligible Pokémon are present in the poll (inclusion is based on popularity from previous polls). If you want to vote for an unlisted Flying type, check the "Other Pokémon" option represented by a (?), and leave a post with your vote.

I selected quite a few, but my favourite remains ZAPDOS.

It's not about tastes, I enjoy the designs, what truly troubles me
is the terrible experiences I've had in doubles battles...

I voted for Charizard, Rayquaza and wish I had seen Braviary so I could give this heroic eagle a nod too.

Edit: I would never have guessed that Altaria would be so far ahead. I mean he is cute, I'm not mad or anything that he ended up doing really well. I just never knew he had such a huge fan base with more votes at current than Lugia, Skarmory, Charizard, Crobat, Talonflame. I can't help but wonder if some of these votes were misclicks by fans trying to select Rayquaza's name instead since they are right next to each other. Interesting in any case.

Altaria has an excellent design, a Mega and got some exposure in ORAS being Lisia's Pokemon. Talonflame and Skarmory might be good competitively but I wouldn't call them fan favourites.

skarmory's just really really cool. it's like a birb but it's metal

also i really liked steven in gen 3 and skarmory always reminds me of him and his skarmory. the steel wing tm he gives you was really useful at the time

Yes, I agree with a lot what you said. Altaria's design is nice indeed. The mega with fairy typing and additional stats definitely helped it become a respectable Pokemon.

I love the Contest Spectacular in Oras and am glad that it seems you do to. At the same time it is not a required part of the story, so not everybody will pursue it to the master rank in all categories and face Lisia's Altaria. I would have thought Skarmory and Talonflame would have done better than Altaria not just because they're good pokemon competitively but because they are important Pokemon for Steven and Ash respectively.

Don't get me wrong, I do think Altaria's a nice pokemon at least in concept. Its just that the competition was really fierce for this category, Noivern, Rayquaza, Ho-oh. Good for Altaria though, I won't be underestimating this guy in the future!
