Just thought I'd make this thread to see what everyone's favourite generations.
Personally, mine would be 3 or 5, though I like all the generations pretty much just as much.
Not sure there really is one. Alpha Sapphire and Hoenn are my favorite game and region respectively... but I honestly didn't even like Emerald enough to finish it. I also wasn't the biggest fan of Leaf Green, though I liked it more than Emerald. So I wouldn't say Generation III is my favorite, but TECHNICALLY my favorite region is from it.
Generation VI and Generation III probably have the best averages in terms of how I feel about the Pokemon designs, but they're all -extremely- close.
If I had to choose the generations that probably lead? It would either be Generation VI or Generation IV. The former due to having my favorite game in the series, me genuinely loving Pokemon X, and me liking most of the Kalos Pokemon. The latter because it was what reintroduced me into Pokemon after a long separation, and because it's honestly just really well done. I love Sinnoh, I think Platinum was excellent, and HG/SS were fantastic remakes. These generations also have my favorite graphics for the series.
Gen 2 will always be my favorite generation. It has my favorite region (Johto), and I loved being able to backtrack to Kanto, which is something that I wish they would do again in a future game.
Gen 6 is also pretty high on my list, thanks to OR/AS. I've complained about X and Y having too easy a level curve and not having enough post-game activity, but they're great games nonetheless :)
Gen 2 is also my favorite gen. Johto is also my favorite region and is full of my favorite Pokemon and towns/cities. Also going to Kanto is a bonus too lol. I also like Gen 4 too, HGSS were amazing and the graphics in that gen were nice as well.
Hm... The Hoenn region (even before ORAS, which seemed to make it a lot of people's favorites now, haha) has to be one of my favorites, because not only was Ruby the first Pokemon game I owned, it was the first Pokemon game I completed; besides that, I love the cities and the Pokemon, namely the Legendaries of the region. My second favorite would have to be Kanto; it was where everything started in Pokemon, and so it feels like a special place.
Gen 3 is my favorite gen because it was the best for region design, game mechanic improvements, and I still think best looking graphic.Gen 4 Not a lot of people like it but I thought it was the best in music, storyline, and one of the best in pokemon design.
Out of the 6 generations, generation 3, followed closely by 6 , are my top two picks. The art, dynamics, mechanics, graphics, and more made generation 3 extremely different and enjoyable to play. Definitely these 2.
For me, it's a tough decision between Gen III and Gen IV. I do enjoy Gen VI a lot, but I'm not sure if it's enough to be one of my favorites. Seeing as we're not done with it yet, that could still change.
Gen. V is and likely always will be my favorite generation. There's really nothing that I didn't like about playing it, and it really showcased how great games for DS could be.
Second gen will always be my favorite, call me old fashioned :P It gave me the most enjoyment when I first played it, and it introduced a lot of great new features and improvements that are still a core part of the series to this day.
Gen 3 is a very close second, because of course, Hoenn :)
I am truly surprised by how many people here really like Generation IV. It's among my favorites personally, I just... I always hear people in basically any other group of Pokemon fans talk about how disappointing that generation was and how it's their all-time least favorite. I never once understood what there is to not love about it. I COULD be biased since it was the generation that reintroduced me to the series, but... I just can't think of any major flaws that make it stand out as bad compared to other generations.
Gen VI all the way! X is my favourite game, Kalos my favourite region, customization my favourite feature {XD} . Plus in Gen VI you can really catch 'em all! (except for mythicals which you'll have to wait for events)
I have a soft spot for Yellow in Gen I too, because I loved having Pikachu as a starter (in that game only. I shudder to think of having to stick to Pikachu in Gen IV/V/VI).
As for ranking... 6>5>4>1>3>2 ;)
Gen 5 is a clear winner for me, it was my first, Unova and Team Plasma were great and lots of cool new Pokemon. I liked things like Join Avenue and PokeStars Studio and the seasons. Gen 4 and Gen 6 are then pretty much tied for second and I haven't really played the older games much except for Yellow which is awesome.
Region wise it would go Unova, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Kanto, Kalos.
Why are most people associating directly the generations to certain region? :( Gen II isn't only about Johto and Gen III has Kanto regions as well. :/
Overall favorite generation would be Generation V, so far the only region that is directly connected with its generation! BW and B2W2 have great plots, they have fantastic Pokémon, design wise or competitive wise.~ It also brought us Hidden Abilities.
Generation III comes second, Kanto dragged it down for me. The tropical and unique Hoenn region is my favorite from Generation III. Generation III introduced us to the mechanics like Nature, Abilities and unique typing such as Fire/Fighting, Dragon/Ground, etc. Additionally Generation III brought us a game with full colors. Everything is nearly perfect!
