feliz anna nuevo

Yeah! I've been having good luck with forming habits that way, saying "when I do x, I will also do y". I work really well when I associate things with other stuff. Like I gotta eat, right, so I say "I will drink a glass of water before I touch my food" and I do that for every meal. I have to take my meds at night, so I say "I will drink a glass of water with my meds." I have to use the toilet, so I say "every time I go, I will do 15 push-ups."

Also I've been doing kettlebell exercises- working on perfecting the basic swing right now. The thing is that I'm pretty sure I'm doing it correctly, but it's not particularly challenging to do 3 x 20 reps. I guess I'll up that? But I'm afraid of screwing myself up if I don't have the form down pat.

This current week I've been doing a reduced-calorie diet, staying under 1500 every day and I intend to keep that going till the end of January and see what that does for me. Tracking calories is really helping me avoid eating out of boredom and I'm not really hungry much. Even when I am I just make tea with no additives and it's all fine!

I've taken "eat a vegetable every day" out of my goals index because at this point it's really just a given; I just had to start forcing myself to do it again. Peppers, green beans, and eggs is a staple breakfast now haha. I take the time to chop all my vegetables etc when I'm watching TV so I don't just feel like I'm losing out on doing something when I do either of those~

So far I've been sleeping better and I've had more energy since I started this. It's at the point where it's noticeable and that's fantastic~

Week 4: Jan 16 - Jan 22 2017
met calorie goal: 6/7. spent: $24.85. up before noon: 4/7. exercise: 7/7. spanish: 5/7. weight: 245.6

So I changed "don't eat crap" to "meet caloric intake goal" because that's. Working for me. For now I've been doing ~1100 a day, with the upper limit being 1500. I haven't been very hungry or grouchy or anything and it does encourage me to eat better because lower cal foods are generally fruits and veg and that. I'm a sedentary person so I really don't need to take in so much, but I'll probably increase intake when (if) I get to doing more intense exercise. Mostly I've been hitting 3x20 kettlebell swings plus various other exercises and stretches, but only going about 15min per session? I'm not very fit lol

spanish: 5/7.
I can understand everything else, but Spanish? I mean, as someone who's a descendant of the language, I can tell you that you won't need it unless you border a country that speaks it. Sure, you got another language under your belt, but you might find yourself on a couch desperate for sleep while you have to put up with two loud women talking in Spanish about how one woman's brother's ex-wife caught her in bed with two guys at the climax, all the while you understand it completely because you decided to learn f*cking Spanish... Did I say too much? Anyway, I'd rather recommend French, cuz you won't need to get fit to get hitched; got me some successful flirts back in high school.

I think we all called that one. XD

How about for certain areas where it's a job requirement that you're fluent in both English and Spanish, for instance? Oh my gosh over the ex-wife mention though.

Going to mention to Aquacorde that seems you're making good progress on your calorie/exercise goal. Keep up the good work!

Doesn't that usually require bordering a Spanish-speaking country for the clientele and customers? I guess, unless it's an online thing or travelling is involved. And yes, that other part really happened to me.

Perhaps. Since I live in California I read a lot of job postings where mostly in customer service Spanish is a requirement, so what you said before makes sense.

and I'm laughing, sorry

I live in the US and even as far north as I am, there's a lot of Spanish-speakers. My fiancé and his siblings are all mostly fluent, my sister-in-law's Peruvian, and most jobs looking for multi-language hires are aiming for Spanish fluency. Since I have so many resources around me for Spanish it's really a good fit, and can be useful~ I'm not exactly looking to do it just for... flirting or bragging rights. Spanish is the most useful language for me.

& thanks bay :> i've been kind of a disaster all my life so im glad i found a technique thats more sustainable, yknow? like obviously yes its helping but its also easy for me to keep track of consistently and that's actually the important part.

Most US states do have a sizable Spanish-speaking minority, so it's a skill actually applicable in most states, unlike French, which really doesn't have much in the way of day-to-day use in most of the US these days (it's useful if you live near Quebec or want to immigrate to Canada and work there, though). I've found myself wishing I had stuck to learning Spanish on many occasions at my employer even though many Americans think my state is part of Canada.

its never too late donny!!

here i am with week five and actually on time lol

Week 5: Jan 23 - Jan 29 2017
met calorie goal: 5/7. spent: $32.78. up before noon: 4/7. exercise: 7/7. spanish: 6/7. weight: 244.8

two bad eating days; one was a party w friends and we drank and made pizza and had ice cream cake- but i did not drink my calories so that is good! diet soda & plain liquor is just fiiine. the other was just me being terrible lol. but i kind of made up for it with more of a deficit on other days? despite my intake goal being "up to 1500" i usually hit ~1100

also starting this week i'm pushing back my waking time to 11am. slowly but surely, i will become a morning person. maybe.

Hi! So how is the anna nuevo ?? It's been a month, time for a recap? ;)

Ahhh it's actually going quite well! I've lost around 6lbs over the last five weeks, exercised most days, practised Spanish and got up early more often than not, been eating a more controlled diet. :> I've found that counting calories is far easier than I ever thought it would be, and very helpful in controlling what I eat. I threw some numbers into multiple calorie counters to get an estimate of how much I should eat to maintain my weight, and took a look at what is considered a livable calorie consumption. Apparently I should be eating ~2.2k to maintain, and 1k is about where I should be to keep my body knowing that it's not actually starving. So I've tried to stay between 1.2 and 1.7k per day to continue losing weight. It's slow, but effective. And really I can eat whatever I want! Just... if I want half gallon of ice cream, that's all I get for the day lol.

check in time!

Week 6: Jan 30 - Feb 5 2017
met calorie goal: 5/7. spent: $100. up before eleven: 4/7. exercise: 7/7. spanish: 6/7. weight: 242.6

Uh so. This week got away from me a little bit. Apparently when I went to get my meds refilled they gave me the wrong one and I didn't notice cause I just take them in the dark lmao. So for most of the week I was taking 3 allergy pills instead of 2 allergy+1 anti-anxiety and boy I did not understand why I was taking so hard until Saturday. Yikes. So when I'm off meds I tend to overeat (managed to keep that fairly under control, at least), eat primarily sweets (diet soda and low-fat ice cream do not make for a healthy meal), be tired constantly but unable to sleep at a reasonable time (lot of falling asleep at 4am and getting up at 2pm), and be completely unproductive. I did none of my chores and the only reason I exercised at all Friday-Sunday was because I had to walk somewhere. I also have poor impulse control in general but even worse when I'm not feeling great- went out to brunch twice, dinner once, the clearance section at Target and the mall. Suddenly, $100 were spent.

Despite all that struggling, I managed to stay pretty on-track! Surprising. I kind of expect this coming week to reflect a little bit of that mental health problem still though because after being off meds for a while it takes a bit for them to kick back in. I'm still aiming to start getting up before eleven more often than not this month, though!

Right, this week was a bit of a mess.

Week 7: Feb 6 - Feb 12 2017
met calorie goal: 5/7. spent: $8.50 up before eleven: 4/7. exercise: 4/7. spanish: 4/7. weight: 239.2

Spending was just fine! $8.50 on lunch, whatever, that's okay. I'm still feeling the effects of last week's medication issue, so my motivation and sleep cycle is a mess. Still managed to get my ass up before 11am four days, and exercise (albeit very lightly) four days as well. Fell off the duolingo bandwagon for most of the week but made up a little bit of practise in helping one of my tutoring kids with her spanish homework. My weight's down under 240lbs, that's a reason to be proud! Buuut I also got talked into helping my tutor kids bake cookies. Should have definitely sent the cookies home with them because... if they're around me I will eat them. :/ Impulse control has never been great. So I had one kinda bad day and one REALLY bad day for eating. As in, over 2000 calories bad. :/

Oh well. Back on track this week! I've discovered that fried eggs + vegetables is actually a really low calorie meal. I wan't aware of that; I kind of thought it would be high because eggs are fatty? But two eggs and like two cups of vegetables is only like 200 calories. I can just eat that constantly lol that's what I've always lived on it's great. 0% thought required.

Also I was like? Squishing my tummy fat earlier today and there's noticeably less mass to it. :D

Baked cookies are hard to resist, heh. I'm sure you'll get bounce back up this week, though.

I admit to not knowing this too, haha. I remember when I went to one of my doctor visits he wanted me to do a blood test. I did the blood test, and while my overall calorie is closer to borderline not so great, he mentioned that I have one type of "good fat" or something but he still advise me to not eat too much eggs.

...I still eat eggs very often, lol.

tbh eggs are like the least boring and most easily incorporated healthy fat haha

Week 8: Feb 13 - Feb 19 2017
met calorie goal: 6/7. spent: $14.00 up before eleven: 3/7. exercise: 4/7. spanish: 3/7. weight: 239.2

WELL THIS WAS A MESS. Calorie goal was actually consistently fine, but I keep staying on the higher end of my limit so I'm going to be taking it down to <1200 for the next week or so. My weight loss stagnated entirely this week, which is disappointing but better than gaining I guess. The only thing I bought that wasn't really necessary was a kitchen scale buuuut that'll be nice to have on hand for counting calories so whatever imo.

My sleep schedule went out the god damn window because I'm an idiot and stayed up all night playing a damn video game. Which then also means! My exercise routine went straight into the trash, my Spanish work pretty much halted, and I fucked up and didn't take my meds on two or three of the days because I usually take them right when I go to bed... and therefore I don't do it when I either a) don't sleep or b) fall asleep outside of my bedroom. Not listed: me not doing a single damn chore this entire week because I'm terrible at life.

get it together, anna, jfc

Welcome to the club tbh. But it's never too late, I mean one bad time doesn't mean a resolution gone bad :)

Week 9: Feb 20 - Feb 26 2017
met calorie goal: 7/7. spent: $8.50 up before eleven: 0/7. exercise: 4/7. spanish: 4/7. weight: 238.2

aaaaalright now um. good w/ the eating and not spending. fine on the spanish and exercise. not good at ALL on getting up before eleven lmao. i'm gonna bump this back up to "getting up before 12" again till i fix my sleep schedule and then try 11 again. :P
