I had food poisoning a day ago, so Wynaut make a thread about it. I'm so ****ing bored, you guys.

Have you ever had to deal with food poisoning? If so, did it stop you from eating the food that caused it?

The last time I had food poisoning was last year... It wouldn't put me off eating the food, it would put me off whoever supposedly cooked the food in the first place. If it's food that you wouldn't cook, then no.

Um... as far as I remember, I didn't really get any case of food poisoning.

I might be a bit picky on choosing the right person to cook or the right places to go eat. Of course, it might also be my sturdy immune system...

I've only fell ill or so from food twice, as far as I can remember. One time was a "I ate waaaaaaaaaaay too much", the other time was far from that as I really didn't eat much of anything - so I'm assuming that instance was food poisoning.

I got food poisoning nearly nine years ago.
Weird for me to remember? You'll think otherwise when you hear the story.

I was in Hong Kong at the time and we were waiting in departures. I had eaten Burger King and a chocolate donut beforehand. Anyway, got on the plane without any issues. A few hours later I got intense pains in my stomach and then not long after I was throwing up everywhere. At that point we were maybe halfway home if we were lucky, so flying 30, 000 feet above an ocean.

By the time we landed the up-chucking had mostly subsided by I needed to be taken into a hospital and checked over. For the next three days all I could eat were lemonade icypoles and twinpoles.

Food poisoning bad enough to result in an ambulance.
Whilst on a plane halfway between Hong Kong and Australia.
I've not eaten Burger King/Hungry Jacks nor Chocolate donuts since because memories.

I have had food poisoning twice, once from soup at a Chinese restaurant and once from lobster at a seafood restaurant. I eventually overcame my aversion to the soup (the broth clearly smelled funny when I got food poisoning from it, so now I just try to pay attention to that, and if it smells normal, I figure it's fine, plus, that particular restaurant closed shortly after the incident). I still have a hard time facing lobster or other shellfish, though, which is a shame. The lobster incident was much more recent than the other one, so we'll see if I move past it as time goes on.

I don't think I've ever had this before. I've been pretty lucky and careful with what I eat to avoid it from happening. Plus, we don't eat out as much for it to happen either. Also, I always check the expiration dates on things too.

    I've had food poisoning twice and both times were awful. Don't think I had too much fun barfing up all my stomach contents. ;v;

First time was with the chicken I ate at dinner the previous night. That was five years ago? It wasn't too bad at first. A stomachache but I had assumed it was from eating too much. A few hours later and it was full out barf in the bathroom. I had to stay home from school the next day and was still throwing up for the majority of it. bleh

Second time was in Hong Kong. Didn't get food poisoned on a plane though so I can only be thankful for that. We were eating at some dodgy street restaurant and went to Disneyland about an hour later. Everything was fine until we were walking home where I started to feel pretty much the same as before. Had to throw up in a random building's bin but I guess it was better than the floor? I still feel sorry for the cleaners though. :( And my mum. She got the worse food poisoning out of the two of us. My sister and my dad were fine though.

I've suffered food poisoning twice. First time was a chicken and leek pie that was obviously not kept correctly. This wasn't too bad, I vommitted all night but hasn't put me off pie.

The second time was a different story. When in Vanuatu I ate a fish burger (bad life decisions..) and felt ill that night. Unfortunately I didn't vomit at all during this bout of food poisoning, instead it lead to a stomach infection. Because I didn't want to go to a third world hospital I just rode out the severe cramps for 3-4 days until I got back to Australia and had to take antibiotics to get over it. The worst part was that the day after I ate the burger (when I was at my worst) we had already scheduled a day trip to an active volcano. As a result I couldn't fully enjoy the experience and we have photos from the trip of me grimacing or trying to smile through the pain.

I will never eat seafood in non 1st world countries ever again...

I ate a giant platter of locally caught steamed clams just after a red tide warning and I was sick for about 24 hours. Pretty much glued to the toilet for about 12 of those hours in terrible stomach pain. I didn't puke, instead I had some horrible other end action that didn't stop for hours. Lol not fun guys.

Regardless I still love steamed clams and I have eaten them since. The only food I refuse to eat again is this tempeh stuff I threw up after getting extremely drunk. It tasted exactly the same coming up UHGUGHUG

Apparently the moral of this story is that Australians shouldn't eat anything in other countries.
    Especially Hong Kong.

Not yet, luckily. I've thankfully never been in that situation, and as I've grown older I've become more aware of undercooked foods so taking precaution is key.

So, uh, that biggest fear thread that popped up last week or so? I very nearly put "food poisoning" for my answer. I am extremely paranoid when it comes to this; if there is even a remote chance that food could make me ill, I won't touch it, even if that means I have to go hungry.

In the fridge, it has to be wrapped and then wrapped again in case something leaks, and if it's passed its best before or use by date? Forget it. Even if I didn't burn my food by accident when I cook, I'd do it deliberately, so I could be absolutely sure it was cooked properly. I am absolutely terrified of this...I'd like to say I just take precautions, but I'd be kidding myself: I take it to extremes, and I'm not about to change that.

I've had it several times, in fact I got it twice from the same resturaunt months apart. Once it was so bad I wasn't able to eat anything for several days - I recall the first thing I managed to keep down was a butterfinger bar my dad got me.

Last time I had it was about 2 months ago - raw beef - I had a craving for a home made burger but I didn't cooked it long enough, had diarrhea for the rest of the day.

My worst was in early April - not sure what I ate - it started as a slight ache in my stomach, vomiting, diarrhea - but it got a bit worst, it felt as slight ache all around my midsection (liver, stomach and intestines are) then got into strong pain, couldn't sleep as soon as I lay in bed muscles started cramping. Worst 2 days I had. It got to the point of where I was about to call the ambulance before I did it started to go away. This time I don't know what caused it, I believe it was Raw Chicken.

Has it stopped me from loving chicken or beef? - never, I'm still a carnivore, but I'm now more careful with meats. If it's raw, I won't eat it, I'll just put it back in the stove to cook more.

Never confirmed, but I suspect I had food poisoning once, or at least a mild case of it, a few years back. All I know is I was fine the night before, got really sick early the next morning with no discernible cause, and it was bad enough that I ended up going to the doctor to get some medicine just to calm my stomach. That was not a fun wait in that waiting room. Not entirely sure what caused it, although I still think it might have been one of the chicken bowls that Taco Bell used to sell. And all I did was just stop ordering that specific thing. Definitely didn't put me off chicken in general.

(As opposed to the time I got sick after eating french toast one night, pretty sure that wasn't food poisoning but was just my stomach getting upset with food since I was already getting sick that night from something else. 10 years later, I think I'm just now getting back a possible appetite for french toast.)

I'm actually a bit surprised I haven't run into more stomach-related woes over the years, as I'm not too picky with my food (as long as it's not very obviously spoiled).

Not exactly food poisoning, but I ate poisoned food, once. I totally forgot they sprayed potent insecticide in my dorm building, so when I got home from school, I went straight for the bowl of nuts I'd left out in the open. Ate a few of them, wondered why they tasted weird, shrugged it off and ate some more - until it struck me. Spat those nuts out fast like they were, idk, the other kind of nuts. Hairy ones.

I was... pretty sick for a while.
