Game Boy celebrates 30th birthday

The Game Boy turned 30 this year! For those old or "retro" enough - did you enjoy playing your games on it as much as I did?!

Answer: you most definitely did not. But tell me about your experiences with the GB anyway!!!!

It's okay, this doesn't make me feel old as balls or anything. :')

I loved my Game Boy. Still do! I recently found two of my Game Boy colors (the purple translucent ones) and my original Game Boy Pocket Silver! Man, I had so many good times playing on those things. I remember locking myself in the bathroom so I could play Donkey Kong Country and Tetris just so no one would bother me, lmao.

i actually skipped the original gameboy and started on a gameboy pocket. i do have one, though. my grandmother gave it to me after i found it at her house. she said my cousin liked to pretend it was a cell phone, but i was so overjoyed at finding it that she let me take it instead saying i could make better use of it. i was like...20 and acted like a 5 year old over it aha. i did get some play out of it, though. i don't mind going back to old consoles to play games so i burned through some pokemon yellow on it after i got it. and tetris is always a good time, too. can't forget that.

^ I thought the Gameboy Pocket was super cute but I think it was one of the only early Nintendo handhelds I never had :<

I had the grey brick (or rather it was my mom's) and Game Boy Color in translucent purple as well (that one was bought for me)! First game on my own console was Pokemon Red. :') Grey brick GB was mainly just for Tetris, that was my mom's favourite game and I apparently inherited that and am way better than her now

I had a lot of fun back in the link cable days of Pokemon. The Game Boy gave me my first exposure to Mario and Donkey Kong too.

It's okay, this doesn't make me feel old as balls or anything. :')

30 year old boomers rise up!

I barely remember playing my Game Boy back in the day. :<

It was mostly because I've never really owned my own one. My siblings had their own Game Boy, but I never really did, so I had to play games on theirs. I think I only had my own GBA/GBA SP afterwards, but not my own Game Boy. It was fun while I played it, though!

Happy birthday, Game Boy! Nevermind that our Game Boy's screen can no longer be read forever, or that I bought a Japanese Pokémon Green after said screen broke. I have fond memories of playing the Game Boy. We had a certain Penguin game and a Mole game (Moguranya or something?) that our one aunt gave us as kids. I never got to play the original Pokémon games on it, but I made up for it by buying Yellow and Crystal on the 3DS Virtual Console.

Hope the Game Boy's legacy never gets forgotten. At least in my lifetime, it'll live on through my fond memories of it. :)

Edit: Mind you, I managed to catch a Pikachu in Viridian Forest, get to Cerulean City, and perform the Mew glitch with a barely legible screen in my copy of JP Green! That's how dedicated I was, haha.

Yikes.. I never had a GameBoy. I have a GameBoy Advance but only because I stole it from my dad to play old school Pokémon games/Super Mario Land, so I do have some of it's games. It's not bad at all.

I uh, have never held an OG Gameboy or a GBC in my life >>
My first console was the GBA SP, enjoyed many hours of Pokémon and Metroid Fusion on that thing ...And a couple of of licensed shovelware based on the latest films at the time. I didn't have good taste in games as a 7-10 year old ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
