How do you like Pokemon Games to be? Is it HG/SS style, where the game is so long it spans two regions and 16 badges, or like the other games with the classic eight gyms and a champion? Would you like any changes to the current length of the Pokemon games with the exclusion of HG/SS? Something along the lines of more gym leaders, a longer post game storyline, if any, or do you think the games are fine for now? Discuss away! :)

While I don't think that every game should pull a G/S/C and have a second region (not that there's anything wrong with that of course), I like to have something substantial to do after I beat the Elite Four. This can be anything from a post game storyline, or even something like Emerald's Battle Frontier- something fun to while away the hours and just give me an excuse to keep playing.

Yeah, I'd like there to be more single player campaign post E4. I understand where that's most people start breeding or playing competitively, but while that's one aspect I would like some official, fully fleshed out storyline. Something along the lines of say Orange Islands in FRLG, where I've seen in the hacks but not in the official game. Not everyone plays competitively on console too, some like myself do play exclusively on Showdown.

I'd love to have a lengthy post-game like in Platinum! That was a lot of fun. I don't include Sevii islands because I hate the pokemon caught limit before being able to get the ferry ticket or whatever.

The main game doesnt have to be that long. I'm mostly in the game for the breeding and battling. :)
But good music and interesting atmosphere really help for the single campaign.

I generally prefer my games to be longer. More bang for your buck, and it gives me something to do for a long time rather than beating the game in 15 hours and being like, "Well, wtf do I do now?"

And as much time as breeding and battling online can eat up, I still like to have other things to do in the game besides those things too.

I think, personally, that there should be an option to revisit all past regions upon completion of whatever game it is in question. Like in X, it'd be great to go back to Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, etc. Don't make it a requirement, but it'd just be a nice bit of something extra. Though it'd make the games absolutely massive.

I'm happy with the length of X, so far. 27 hours in and I've only just got my 7th badge and Xerneas, looking forward too getting my 8th and beating the Pokemon League.

Post game Platinum wasn't that long persay, but it was definitely longer and much more engaging than say, B/W which really didn't have much post game and sidequests as Platinum did. That's cool, some players do prefer shorter games so they can get to the breeding and competitive battling fast.

Yeah. I personally wouldn't mind if every game onwards was done HG/SS style. It may sound a bit extreme, but the only reason why that was one of my favoruite generations is because they brought the whole 16 gyms thing back into the game, which I was really fond of. On top of that, sidequests were also included, and there was a real challenge in the form of Red at the end, with a decent classic team and a very real possibility of losing, even though the games have been famous for being notoriously easy to breeze through.

The Kanto part of G/S and HG/SS dragged pretty badly, so I think that the 8 badges game length (roughly about 30 hours) seems to be the best mix. There's enough breathing room for the plot but the game isn't too over-bloated.

It all comes down to personal preference, actually. Having sixteen badges allows for more challenge both in the form of Gym Leaders and the final battle because by that time there really isn't much of a level gap, mindless grinding won't do you good at that point. That's where it comes down to pure skill, and it's what I like about two regions - a bigger challenge.

I'm actually pretty fond of classic game styles, with one region, eight gyms, one evil team, and so forth. We're all more or less used to this formula, as it's how Pokémon games have always been, and on top of that, it actually works; majority of us do buy into all of that, including myself.

With those said, however, I still believe it'd be nice for them to switch things up every once in a while, and try new processes and whatnot. They have attempted to put two regions into one game, and results were mainly positive; a lot of people liked it. Thanks to this, they now have assurance that, whenever more than in a game and whatnot, fans would have more of an enjoyable experience.

As for my own self, I personally like it when their games are lengthy. They could have short story-line if they choose, I have no problem with that, but would definitely appreciate it if they had some secondary plot of sorts post-game, so that we would all keep ourselves playing and whatnot. I mean, we could still do it without post-game content, I suppose, but not all of us; only those who have certain tasks in mind, such as completing PokéDex, breeding Pokémon, building team for online play, and so forth. Hope I'm making sense!

GSC, and HG/SS having to visit both the Kanto and Johto regions are the main reasons why I absolutely love these games. I was able to visit both of my favorite regions, and I wish the rest of the games did the same. I love how you could collect sixteen badges in two regions.

I personally like a longer, more involved game. I'm into complex storylines, so I don't mind a long game. I also like having aftergame stuff to do. Emerald was one of my favorites because of the story and the Battle Frontier aftergame.

Yes, Emerald's my favourite game, trailing right behind GSC/HGSS. Battle Frontier was a real challenge, and wasn't something a five year old could beat using that epic Raquaza from Sky Pillar and outrage spamming nearly everything. It required true skill, and the feeling of happiness when you finally complete and defeat all the Frontier Brains was amazing, and very, very tough.

Yes, it also allows for more bonding between Trainer and Pokemon, because the difficulty does increae after Lance when you go to Kanto, and not only do players get to see Kanto in all it's 3D glory, they also got to play through the region anime-style, where one comes to the region after beating the champion in another, and the fact that the gyms greatly incrased in levels allowed you to experience the, from a whole different perspective. The fact that the storyline was not purely linear in Kanto was a feature I enjoyed too.

I agree, on both counts. The Battle Frontier was certainly a challenge and I've still never completed it. As for Kanto in Gen II and HG/SS, it did make for a very nice post game storyline and being able to get an extra eight badges was really cool.

I like the long games. Pt was awesome, B/W2 too and Emerald i enjoyed it a lot!!
I can't understand when games are finished after the League... The world ends there???

Yeah, it's not exactly "the world ends there" per se, bit either the game has a horrible post - E4 storyline that makes you unmotivated to play, or it has none or so little it couldn't even be counted a storyline. Both are bad, and while I understand every game can't be 16 badges because not everybody would like it that way, making it a bit longer would help their company in the long run.

The Kanto part is completely optional. I really can't see how a second region would make a
game "over-bloated" tbh. If you want to skip Kanto and keep rehashing the Elite Four, fine, be my guest.
But keep the second region there for us adventurers to explore.

Another argument to have several regions, is to fit in the majority (or at least half) of the 500+(?) Pokemon into the game, without cramping everything into one region, or leaving out the most. There's also more room for more TM's, Berry gardens, Safari Zones and other interesting stuff.

    The Bigger - The Better.

Yeah, the fact that the region is optional is a great feature for players who just don't have the time and / or motivation to continue for whatever reason.

While I'm all in for longer, bigger and better games, fitting several regions into one is something GameFreak would probably never do. It'll require substantially more development time, and time is money. All their games have so far been hovering around the same price range, and it's going to cost a lot more. In addition, it also eliminates part of the multiplayer "catch them all" theme.

I would really love it if Pokemon's main story was lengthened to span dozens of hours and that we don't reach the Elite Four as quick as we are able to in some main series games. I honestly don't really care that much for post-game since there IS stuff to do - catch all the Pokemon, explore everywhere, etc. If they placed something like the World Tournament or a Battle Frontier at the end of this game (and nothing else) I would be pretty happy.

Yeah. Post game is really only to make up for the awfully short main game. It's clearable, even if you're not going for speedruns or anything, in about a little more than ten hours for the casual player. I've even seen a Pokemon HG/SS speedrun in a little over two hours, and considering that it spans two regions, that's creepily quick. Maybe they could include anime events and maybe even sidequests and filler arcs of some kind? Would be great to have, no question.

Yes, my dream is that the last Pokemon game will be all regions put into one game. That will be the length of a game I need to last me years after Pokemon Stops lol
