have you tried the memstick, on another computer or used another reader other than the built in one? (also have you upgraded the OS on the computer that has the built in reader? Sometimes when You upgrade the OS, even Vista to 7, there can be driver incompatibilities and the device doesn't work.)

It's worked before on the computer I am using at this moment. It's odd seeing as my SD reader is picky, but this reader won't read any of my memsticks at all. It recognizes something is inserted, but I cannot browse it; it tells me to insert something into my J drive.

I've run into that before, unfortunately, the only remedy I found that worked was to reformat. The reason why it wasn't being read by the computer was that there was some corruption in the formatting of the memory stick, reformatting corrected it, but also meant I lost everything.

Typically I find the reader at fault in those instances; see if you can get the cards to mount on another computer. It gets annoying with my Acekard SD card.

I don't think that's the issue- it won't read anything I put in it. I recently got lucky and got it to read (properly) one of my cards, but it's the first time after many several dozens of attempts.

If I can find another computer that will read these cards...

The next time it manages to read the card, I'd be backing up EVERYTHING to your PC.

Definitely. Then, I'll reformat. What's the best settings for a memory stick for the PSP?

No idea :P. If you can read it without any software, then I'd be guessing FAT32 with the default sector sizes.

I did I nice build at work today:

Antec 300
Intel i7-2600
Gigabyte GA-P67-UD3-B3
8 GB G-Skill Ripjaws DDR3 RAM
Gigabyte Nvidia Geforce GTX 560 Ti 1GB
OCZ ModXStream 700W Modular PSU

Well, just my luck. Apparently, my mom's laptop is refusing to start up her login manager, which means that she can't access anything now. I'm fairly positive that a borked update killed the login manager, so I'm probably going to have to boot from a Linux distro (downloaded DSL just for the occasion), backup her files, and then repair the OS and get all of the updates.

Hopefully, she'll forget her rage over a subpar grade on my report card and allow me to get a 3DS tomorrow. Hopefully.

Have fun updating, and Good luck. I would sugest trying to repair it first, as it might take a lot less time to repair it then to wipe install and then update it. Is this a Windows machine?

I tried repairing, but it didn't fix the problem. I already reinstalled it, so there are no problems with it now.

And yes, it was a Windows machine. And the 3DS won't come until Sunday.

MY PAGE

and apparently this thread is in dire need of cats.

lol Cats, thats the name of the tech club at school (Computer And Technology Students). I had to do a double take of the thread title.

The 3DS is probably the coolest thing I have bought. Once the store and Web browser updates roll around I will probably use it a lot more.

So has anybody given Ubuntu 11.04 a swing yet? I am really liking the updated UI, Takes the parts of OSX and 7 and puts them together,

So, I have a general outline of my future build. It's probably not the best idea to do it right now, as prices and products change so rapidly, but it's mainly so I have a general idea of what I'll get when it's time to buy it. And because it's fun and it's something I enjoy doing.

So, here's what I got:

Asus M4A785TD-V EVO | Phenom II X6 | Thermalright Venomous X-RT | PNY GeForce GTX 570 | WD Caviar Black 1TB (x2) | Corsair TX750W | Corsair XMS3 8GB | CM HAF 932 | Windows 7 Home Premium (in case I somehow lose my copy of Windows 7)

You could save a bit of cash by getting a different HDD. The blacks aren't silent, either. Put it into a better board. The 785G chipset is old and some won't support the 6-core out of the box. Go with a 880G and make sure to get a 2x4 GB kit of ram, rather than 4x2GB.

The HAF is huge and pretty ugly. Consider something a little more... respectable. Such as the Antec 902, Cooler Master 690 Advanced II, Lian Li K62, etc. That said, it's a personal thing - the HAF does a great job at providing airflow, if that's all that matters.

Ubuntu 11.04 is one the best interfaces I've ever experienced, but since it's still in beta, it needs some work to be done, as it has become a bit buggy on my end. Overall, if you haven't tried it yet, you should. Installation is painless if you have 10.10.

Well, I'll bring some life into here.

It seems I have a nasty virus. I can't bring up my Task Manager, not through Ctrl+Alt+Del or if I right-click my taskbar. But, my CPU meter appears, and blinks between 0% and 100%. I think it's a virus, so I'm scanning my computer.

Yeah careful with those antivirus trojans. One of the students in my class got one on his lab computer, and the funny thing is that he is in class to learn to be a system administrator.

I suggest using Google and search the website www.bleepingcomputer.com for the virus. That site usually has detailed lists of the files associated with different virus, Boot into Windows PE /RE or use a linux live CD to remove all of the files and you should be good, or backup your personal data and reinstall. Just wondering what OS are you on?

I'm on Vista. I burned myself an Avira Live CD and ran it before I went to bed. I just booted it up and now, I have my Task Manager again. MS Security Essentials never picked anything up, but at least it's fixed. I'm thankful for that. Now, if I ever get a nasty infection, I can run that Live CD as a last-resort.

One more question as I am thinking about majoring in security; did you have UAC turned on, and were you using an Administrative account?

Hmm... I'm getting concerned regarding my gaming PC. A few days ago, I downloaded Prism Video Converter to shrink a few massive video files that I had recorded for a school project (one was 7.00 GB!), and as I usually do, I put my computer into sleep mode after I was finished. When I tried waking it up a day later, it apparently had turned off. I was confus at this point, so I tried rebooting and got a Blue Screen. That was odd enough, so I uninstalled Prism.

Last night, the same thing happened again, but this time, when it tried resuming Windows, it brought me to a blank screen with a blinking cursor, and refused to do anything from there. I rebooted the machine, but this time none of the main system components started up. I even removed the side panel to observe what was happening, and every time I powered it on, the front-side fan would spin into life, but the motherboard power indicators didn't light up. Eventually, after unplugging the computer for ten seconds and then retrying it, I was able to get the machine to start successfully.

I fear that I might have a defective PSU. Chances are I'll have to RMA it... that sucks. Especially since Portal 2 is coming out soon, and if my computer dies while it's downloading... my whole week will be ruined (because the day that it comes out, I'm heading to Florida. I also have school that day, so I think that if anything I'll at least try to snag the soundtrack files before I leave). Anyone support or disapprove of this hypothesis?

Sounds like an issue with the RAM. It seems that it's not clearing the RAM properly or something along those lines. My parents' computer had a similar issue last summer/fall. Somehow, despite not replacing any components, this went away. I think it was because they upgraded from XP to 7, though. Maybe a reinstall is what you need.

Mom's computer, which is the one i am using to type this message, has a webcam.

Sadly, I'm none too familiar with this Windows 7 'nonsense'.

There a method to using this webcam for snapshotting and editing?

Press the Windows key on the keyboard, and start typing "Web cam". It should bring up a list of software related to the web cam if it came with software for it.
