The world is a harsh place - as we begin our descent into an increasingly precarious future, it can be hard to remember the good things, the updates that perhaps bring a little joy to our hearts, or at least a smile on our face.

While I stress that Big News should get their own respective threads, and this isn't meant to be a catch-all by any means (feel free to make your own threads about anything, people!), I thought it might be fun to have a thread where we can share and discuss little bits of news that point towards a brighter tomorrow. It might get those of you naturally shy about partaking in the more S e r i o u s aspects of OT to come out of your shells a bit more!

Well lately I'm suscribed to the Dodo on Facebook and they publish a lot of cute happy stories about rescued animals. It's the best for feels.

To be more specific I just saw one where a guy rescued a kitty and posted it on social media and people were like 'leave him there, his mom will come back for him' but she never came so he took the kitty home amd now they're both very attatched, and the kitty's name is Smoky. It was really sweet. I really recommend this page if you like animals and Sweet uplifting stories.

You guys aren't going to like this but The Dodo is, unfortunately, run by PETA.

But I enjoy animal rescues too and there's a few youtube channels I like
1. Vet Ranch, this guy does of rescues
2. Kritter Klub, a lot of uploads from Korea but there's a lot of rescues from kind citizens and vets. I like the one where the doctor treats a kitten with a viral infection and they clean up a place for the mother and kittens to live.
3. 2 much hair, ok this is people but this lady does an amazing job with her clients and shows you how she treats and styles natural hair

After nearly reaching the depths of extinction, humpback whales in the southern Atlantic ocean have resurfaced once again.

New estimates now suggest there are some 24,900 individuals in the Western South Atlantic breeding group (WSA) - nearly 93 percent their number pre-whaling.

It's a resurgence not even the experts saw coming, and a powerful reminder of what the world can accomplish, if only we set our minds to it.

"I expected the recovery to be higher than we'd estimated in 2006," marine biologist Alexandre Zerbini from NOAA told USA Today, "but I wasn't expecting the almost full recovery we found."

I just went and double checked this and it doesn't look like PETA actually runs them, just writes articles for them sometimes. They're run by Group Nine Media. So not much better but somewhat better.
