Aisaka's return indeed.~
Yeah I've been checking in whenever I haven't been busy or when I remember, so sometimes I've just been refreshing FT on my phone looking for new notifications.

Ash again?~

Aisaka, Setsuna, and Queendra all end in A. I'm realizing this right now...

The whole "one more before bed" thing sounds so comfy. Reminds me of years ago when I started falling asleep to YouTube videos. As opposed to now when I fall asleep to YouTube videos still.

Is it gonna be Ash again?

Yeah, usually they're that one thing that helps me sleep. Though it's not even like sleep aid stuff or anything, it'll be things like gaming videos I enjoy, or speedruns from GDQ. It doesn't even matter if I've played the games before, sometimes I can just find something neat and get comfy with it. Staying warm and alcohol (ahaha) are those other things that can really help me to sleep. But if I'm at a loss, I'll put on a video I've fallen asleep to before.

Still got some left in me! How about you Ash?

Still alive just :)

Videos need to be familiar for me at bedtime, if I haven't seen it, and I'm interested in it, then I'll want to keep watching it!

I also don't like sharp noises etc when I'm trying to nod off. Sometimes I'll write haiku's in bed and it calms my mind a bit too.

Aisaka still rocking all the A's?

Usually that's why I'll watch stuff I've fallen asleep to before if I'm struggling, but I'm alright with the thought I can jusr watch more the next night and continue where I left off. If it's a long video I'll spend a little bit going "Okay, I remember this, I've seen it before" and trying to find the point I fell asleep at.

I'm pretty good at sleeping through noise, but it's a little frightening. Writing haikus is super cool though, whatever poetry I've done late at night has just been free verse stuff because I'm emotional and wanna get it out.

You know it. Care to join me, Ash?

I have anxiety issues and a sharp noise can really get my heart racing, so it's not ideal for sleep 😅

Free verse sounds really cool for relaxing in bed, I might have to try that at night!

Night-time poetry is quite weird for me. When I'm fully awake, I set my brain 100% on the task and focus on it intently - again not ideal for sleep. Yet when I'm in bed, I seem to switch to a much more casual, sleep friendly, laid back aproach, without even trying. I write some of best poetry at night, I wish I could enter that state consciously.

Is sleepy poetry productive in Aisakaland?

Reminds me of when I started playing rhythm games, I'd have headphones on and I'd constantly be worried someone could be behind me and I couldn't hear them. That definitely broke more than a handful of full combos.

Free verse is like the definition of relaxing writing for me. There's no set structure or whatever and you can play around a lot. You don't have to focus your brain on that, you just kinda go for it.
It can sort of be the same for me? I'll be trying to get myself to work on something (writing is a fantastic example) and no ideas will come or I just can't connect the words. But at 3am I can write a page of notes because I just happened to be thinking of something. Maybe being more relaxed in bed removes some kind of... self-imposed limiter. Who knows?

With poetry specifically it was just a way to deal with mental health struggles back when I didn't have people to talk to. A lot of it was me wrapping my feelings in a fancy gold ribbon, so people just told me it felt powerful or that the emotions were nice or things like that. I guess it was productive though, people I showed it to seemed to like it (except one guy, funny story, he said my poetry wasn't proper because it didn't rhyme) and it helped me fall asleep at night or get the yuckier stuff out.

Aisakaland is cute, may I suggest for you... the Ashlands?

I love the Ashlands!

I guess neither of us write proper poetry then because I don't really use rhymes.

I did come across someone that said my haiku and tanka weren't "proper" because the syllable structure wasn't "correct". I did gently say that Japanese sounds don't fit into English very well and that modern western short form is a lot more free than they believed, but they were quite insistent that I was an idiot.

I just smiled and ignored them after that.

Aisakaland still open for trade?

If I ever write anything that rhymes, it's total coincidence. Requires me to actually think.
I could see the whole thing about Japanese sounds not fitting well, Japanese is pretty much built by syllable and not by letter. It's weird to think of "poetry elitists" being a thing, but... hey. Something new every day.

Should be open for however long until I go to sleep. If you still are, Ash?

Ashlands hanging on... but only just 😅

Yeah, it's a shame about peeps like them. Poetry is inherently artistic, and should be free if it wants to be.

I like guidelines, but that's exactly what they are, guides. They help us write things that fit into tried and tested patterns that the human brain enjoys reading. If the poem breathes better outside of those patterns, then why should we stop it?

Omg, I'm sorry for rambling! 😳

Aisaka?

Pretty much. It's cool to be creative however you want with an art form, it's kinda silly to make a big deal of how others wanna be creative like that.

The guidelines are nice and encourage different kinds of poetry, I think it's cool to see what people can do to be unique while staying in the lines, but not everyone (like myself) wants to play by those rules, or some other similar idea. It's cool to have both, they're still both poetry.

Hey, if anything, I'm enjoying this, and I ramble a huge amount. It's all good.~

Ash again?~

I feel exactly the same way!

It's nice to be challenged by certain boundaries too. I never write 5-7-5 haiku for instance, they just don't gel with my style.

I wrote a rare one for a competition recently, that I thought required it. It was a actually a pretty cool challenge, and I enjoyed it very much! It went on to win the competition, and the funny thing is, I don't remember seeing another 5-7-5 amongst all the other haiku 😅

It's good to do things out of our comfort zones sometimes, it's how we grow. But I just wish some people would let the art stand on its own, I'm a poet not a mathematician :)

Aisaka still alive?

When I think of haiku, I always think of 5-7-5, what do you write instead? Anything specific or does it vary?

Hey, we're fellow poetry contest winners! After I started the whole late night free verse thing, a couple people invited me to sign up for a contest on my old forum. It was a neat concept, you'd sign up, be given a random Pokemon and have to write based on that prompt. I got Riolu and wrote one based on Mystery Dungeon Explorers (since Riolu was a starting Pokemon) and it's funny to think, but I totally pandered to people's nostalgia and ended up winning, since the voting was done through the public.

The whole thing about comfort zones is really accurate. It's good to do stuff outside yours every so often.

Still alive, though the plan was to go to sleep but plan was thwarted by my parents. Should be around for a while longer. Back to you, Ash?

That's a neat idea, and sounds interesting. It reminds me of those instagram accounts where they post the same image or same character every day. I'm not great with daily stuff and won't do them often (the only thing I can think of are dailies for idol games) so that shows dedication even if it stopped.

Aisaka next, though I see Ash is probably typing a response right now.

Congratulations Aisaka 😊

I will attempt to figure out a way to show you an example.

The problem with the haiku community is that:

A. You can't submit anything that's been published, and that even includes on forums or social media.

B. Anything that I've already had published will give my full name away, and I don't feel safe doing that right now.

Let me have a think!

I am going to have to attempt to sleep otherwise I won't get any! It's been really lovely chatting with you as always Aisaka 😊

Goodnight!

I've spend last couple months trying to write a haiku every day. But I always tried to stick with the 5-7-5 rule. At some point it just stopped being fun. <_<

Aisaka next?

Sorry, didn't see this, y'all ninja'd me!

I "force" myself to write only one haiku, one senryu and one tanka a month. That way, I am forced to actually start at some point, and I can't permanently goof off, yet it doesn't become a "chore". I always write way more because of that :)

Night too Seliph!! 😊

Seliph next?
