    Does anyone have experience with slightly more expensive headphones? I'm looking to spend around £80-£100 (about $150) but I'm not sure what I should get, so any help would be appreciated. If you don't know anything in that price bracket, then just any brand recommendations would also be appreciated. I've been looking at Sennheiser and Audio Technica primarily, but I haven't any experience with either so I don't know what they're like.
     
    yeah tbh from what ive heard skull candy are meant to be awesome. I recommend them to.
     
    Skullcandy are a fad that are good for the fashion aspect only, the sound quality is terrible compared to others in the market, and I can vouch for that. I'm using these indoors only so I'm not concerned with the look of the headphones. If you guys are ever considering getting some decent headphones then I wouldn't recommend Skullcandy, you can even get better earphones.
     
    From personal experience, Skull Candy are awful headphones with awful quality and are very fragile.

    I don't know much about high end headphones, but Bose headphones have good quality even if they are overpriced because they're Bose. This is just from sampling in stores, mind you. There have been other impressive brands, but I don't remember what those were.
     
    Skullcandy headphones are absolutely garbage. They're overpriced crap.

    I personally have a Razer Orca. Best headset I've ever had. It's $60, comfortable as hell, and the sound quality is awesome. But then again, I'm not much of an audiophile, so I'm sure someone can disagree and say you could get more bang for your buck. But generally, if you need to ask, then you're probably not an extreme audiophile, so the Razer Orca should be good for you. I'll pull a link:

    I have a pair bose right now on. Ok not on rite rite now. lol
    Their really good.
    Not really sound proff, but still really good is about 150$
    Sound proof (Well no sound gets in) is about 180$
    I would reccomend them
    Comfy (Over-Ear)
    Pretty good quality

    I forgot the name. But if your looking for more of a "Bass" then no sound. I think it was dj something.. or I forgot. Yeah.

    I can personally vouch for the suckiness of Skullcandy headphones. I will never buy their crap again.

    Right now I'm using Razer Carcharias, which are basically the Orca model with a mic. They are massively comfortable and have great sound quality. Probably not secure enough to wear while on the move, if that's a concern, but otherwise yeah. They kick the crap out of the Skullcandy Double Agents that they replaced.
     
    Thanks for the recommendations guys. Thanks a lot for the guide twocows. I decided to go either the Grado SR80 or ATH-AD700. I went for the ATH eventually because of the praised soundstage and because the Grado doesn't look very comfortable.
    So now a headphone general thread?

    Okay, now that I have you attention, Skullcandy's are overpriced headphones with the sound quality of cheap sony's, hell even sony's are better.

    I'd definitely suggest higher end Sennheisers, best bang for you buck in terms of sound quality and price. My HD202s were ~$20 and are better than a majority of the ~$80+ headphones out there. For other good quality brands I suggest checking out sound Audiophile forums for their recommendations.
     
    Skull Candy are awful.
    A lot of people I know have had them and they just brake so much.

    I just get the normal in-ear headphones and they never let me down.
     
    Well, I use a SONY MDR-V150, which isn't the greatest. I spend 25 euro on it. But I've heared the more expensive ones among the series are really worth the money.

    I had a huge post written out, but PC's server killed it in action. Just like another post of mine within the same hour.

    Basically, considering you've decided on the Audio Technicas, there are two versions. If you want closed ears for better bass and outside noise cancelling, the A700s are what you want, I believe.
     
    Open eared gives better sound quality though, right? I'm more concerned about quality than isolating outside noise.
     
    No gaming. Only using them for music and I listen to pretty much every genre, I read that the closed headphones are better for a more hard hitting sound (with bass, as you say) whereas the open ones give a clearer atmosphere.

    Right. Well another thing to consider - will the sound disturb your family? Because they open-eared ones will let a bit more sound out the back. So if you listen to music loud and late at night...
     
    No, I'm sure my dad wouldn't be able to hear it over his own drunken singing, lmao. I just need something quieter than speakers, I assume they won't end up being as loud as miniature speakers on my head though...? I've ordered the ADH-700 anyway and hopefully I'll get them in a few days and be able to give my opinion.

    Well no, but if you turn them up loud, the person next to you will be able to hear, as is with most bigger headphones.

    From all accounts, you will be very pleased with that purchase. Let us know how they go. :D
