Hi there, $uname! Considering you haven't made any posts yet on the forums, you may need some help in knowing where to start.

The majority of members here at the PokéCommunity have made welcome threads to introduce themselves to those who are established on the forums. If you'd like to do that (there's no reason not to), head on over to the Welcome Lounge and make a thread. We don't bite!

Before you get too active on the forums, we advise that you read over our rules. They apply everywhere, so be sure to follow them! Our staff are lax about honest mistakes, so don't worry too much about infractions unless you purposefully break the rules.

Overall, we understand that the PokéCommunity can be a big and often overwhelming place. Our staff and regulars are always happy to see new members coming along to post, so we encourage your participation. As they say, the more the merrier, no?

If you have any questions or concerns, you can consult our Frequently-Asked Questions page, or post a thread in our Community Questions and Feedback. If it's something personal or urgent, just send a private message to any higher staff member (the ones in bold gold or red).

We hope you enjoy your time on the PokéCommunity!

I imagine that can be tweaked for the 1-5 posts message. :)

Get rid of Black and White and replace it with X and Y of course. Or just mention something about Current Generation Gaming instead of saying the current game. The games get released too often for us to worry about constantly updating that so just link to the whole Current Generation Gaming category as a whole.

Would it be out of question to make it more "fun?" I understand that it should still be formal, but changing the text font, adding maybe a picture/gif or two could make a world of a difference. It seems to be a running theme at the beginning of each sub section of PC so I don't see why not we can't transfer it over to these messages you send out.

I agree with this. A simple image or gif, would show we're a nice and fun place to be around and make new users feel comfortable with being here/ want to post more. When I was a new user, it was the fun community that kept me here.

Yeah, having an entertaining GIF like some of the individual forum splashes will be a great way to encourage newbies to stay active since there have been several cases where I saw newbies join and then like... suddenly disappear without notice.

It's all part of moving forward!

    For zero postcount users:
Great to see you here, $uname! Now that you've registered, there are just a couple of preliminary tasks. They're not all necessary, but they'll help you down the road.
    - Reading the community's rules and regulations is pretty fundamental.
-Whenever you're ready to make your big debut, making a thread in the welcom lounge is the way to go. Make a good first impression, and new friends will flock to you in droves!
    - Making profile is always fun. Try fiddling with some of the options here and see what you like.
    - Acquainting yourself with the community's staff members will help you get a leg-up on where to post. They're friendly, so don't be afraid to ask them anything.

    For 1-15 postcount users:
Hey $uname, how are you enjoying the place? We know our community can be quite intimidating to new users, so here are a couple of convenient links for you:
-The Community Questions & Feedback is here if you experience any technical difficulties or have any suggestions for how to improve the site.
    - Under the Current Generation Pokémon Gaming header is where you can discuss the latest main-series games in the series such as Black, White, Black2, White2, X, and Y. It also houses the trade corner for arranging Wi-Fi trades and PC's competitive battling center.
    - Under the General Pokémon Gaming Discussions header is where you can discuss all the classic main-series Pokémon games as well as all spin-off games. It also houses the challenges center where you can plow through one of several self-imposed challenges.
    - Under the Alternative Pokémon Discussions header is where you can find the sections for everything Pokémon, but not gaming-related, such as the anime, manga, and TCG. You can also create Pokémon-themed clubs and participate in Pokémon-themed forum games.
    - Under the Creative Discussions header is where you can share anything, well...creative. fan art, fan fiction, role plays, and fan games are shared here.
    - Under the Rntertainment and Hobbies header, you can find discussions on any non-Pokémon media. Television, movies, video games, and Internet culture are covered by this section.
    - Under the Off-Topic Discussions header, you'll find general chatter about anything. There are even sections for mature and intellectual conversations...or you can just spam in the forum games section.

I think they should be simple and friendly. But also a bit cute :B

There, there, username! We know PokéCommunity (PC) can be large and intimidating at first, but please don't dig yourself a hole and hide.

First thing to do is to check out the Community Rules, unless you've done that already. Next, create a thread to say hello in the Welcome Lounge! Think that's a bit too much? Just drop a post in the New Users' Hangout instead. You are sure to get a warm welcome in any case.

Pick an avatar to be your face around the forums! PC has huge galleries of avatars to choose from, or you can upload your own. Maybe you also want to customize your profile page to be more "you"? You reach your profile by clicking on your username or avatar.

If you have any questions or concerns, check out the FAQ page or post in Community Questions & Feedback. Also remember that you can always send a message to the people in bold, colorful usernames - they are forum staff and here to help you.

Hello again, username! Seems like you have joined our cult posted a few times now. Not sure what do to next? Here are some places you might want to check out:

Pokémon X & Pokémon Y - the latest games in the main series have a busy section where you can find likeminded fans!
Trade Corner - the place to go to fill up your pokédex, talk about breeding or otherwise trade Pokémon over WiFi.
Battle Center - discuss strategy, arrange WiFi battles, or visit PC's external Battle Server.
Emulation & ROM Hacking / Game Development - if you came here to make a fangame, these are the key places.
Off-Topic Discussions - at the bottom of the index for when you want to talk, but don't know about what. Anything goes except for Pokémon!

As you might have discovered, there are also sections for the old Pokémon games, for Pokémon in other media, for creative stuff like art and writing and for many kinds of non-Pokémon topics. Truly, PC should have something for everybody. Have fun!

To be honest I think we should just merge the 0 and the 1-5 messages together effectively. I'd rather not make my first post only to realize that it could have been in a better place if I were a n00b.

    Praising Rika's post.

I dunno, I think separating them based on posts is cool. Maybe not 0 to 1, but rather 0-4 shows the first message, then 5-15 shows something more? Or maybe Melody's on the right track giving them fuller examples right off the bat.

I like yours and Melody's ideas too. 0-4 or just one single version.

Should tell new users they can't post URLs until they reach fifteen posts, that is, before they actually take the time to compose a post that would require a link to make sense.

^ Anna brought to attention that restriction might have been lifted recently? I have yet to check its validity for myself.
